I’m writing this article as an aspiring software developer. I recently got an internship, and it has been going really well. I’ve learned a lot, and I’m genuinely glad I got this opportunity. However, the reason I’m writing this is because I’ve been noticing a major shift in the industry due to AI.

The requirements for junior developers have started to decrease. In fact, in some areas, even the expectations from software developers are changing. Tasks that once required manual effort can now be assisted or even handled by AI tools. This shift is making me rethink how I approach my career.

When I started my journey, my plan was simple: begin with software development and then gradually move into AI/ML. But now, I’m not sure if that approach still makes sense. The industry is evolving so quickly that waiting too long to adapt might not be a good idea.

One of the biggest challenges I’m facing right now is the lack of real-world project experience. At the moment, I’m mostly learning and not getting enough opportunities to apply that knowledge in actual projects. It sometimes makes me question when I will truly use what I’ve learned.

But at the same time, I see a different side of this situation. Not having constant work has given me time to deeply understand concepts and explore the existing codebase of my company. I can focus on small details, build strong fundamentals, and follow my curiosity without rushing. I’ve realized that I can’t leave things halfway or jump between domains too quickly. First, I need to complete what I’ve started and build a solid base. Only then should I consider switching or expanding into other areas.

AI is definitely affecting the industry, and there’s no denying that. It’s changing how work is done and raising the bar for developers. But one thing is still in our control—our learning. As aspiring developers, we will hear a lot about how AI is replacing jobs or changing everything. Some of that is true. However, I believe that if we focus on learning deeply and building strong thinking skills, we can still stay relevant.

Right now, I feel that developing problem-solving ability and understanding concepts deeply is more important than just learning things quickly to build something. Tools may change, but strong fundamentals and clear thinking will always have value.

This is just my perspective. You may agree or disagree, and that’s completely fine. But if I could give advice to my past self, I would say this: choose a domain you genuinely like, make sure it has demand, and commit to it fully before jumping to something else.

And yeah, that’s it. Thanks for reading.
