Project Overview

For Waffle Hacks 2024, we developed Study Stream, an AI-powered task manager designed to help students manage their academic workload efficiently while reducing stress. With Study Stream, students can input their assignments, due dates, and complexities, and let our AI optimize their schedule for peak efficiency, including essential break times.

Inspiration

The inspiration for Study Stream stemmed from the alarming statistics regarding student stress:

Over 80% of students report academic performance as a significant source of stress.
Heavy workloads, exams, and high expectations are major contributing factors.
In an attempt to escape stress, students often seek joy or entertainment, which can lead them to fall behind on their studies.
This creates a vicious cycle of stress, eventually leading to burnout and depression.

Recognizing these challenges, we set out to create a solution that would help students balance their academic responsibilities with their well-being.

What It Does

Study Stream is a web extension that offers the following features:

Task Management: Students can easily input their assignments, due dates, and complexity levels.
AI-Powered Schedule Optimization: Utilizing ChatGPT, the program generates an optimized study schedule that includes necessary break times to maintain productivity and mental health.
Seamless Integration: The generated schedule is formatted for easy integration with Google Calendar, ensuring students can execute their study plans without hassle.

We are excited about the future of Study Stream and have several enhancements in the pipeline:

Project Overview

EcoVision is an AI-powered application designed to combat littering and promote sustainable waste disposal. Created during the Launchology AI for Hackathon 2024, EcoVision empowers users to take action against environmental degradation by providing them with the tools and knowledge needed to make a positive impact on the planet.

Problem Statement

Environmental degradation, particularly littering and improper waste disposal, poses a significant threat to both urban and natural ecosystems. According to the World Bank, global waste generation is projected to increase by 70% from 2016 levels to 3.40 billion metric tons by 2050 if current practices continue. This not only strains landfill capacities but also increases pollution, harms wildlife, and contributes to climate change. The urgency for innovative solutions to manage waste more effectively and promote environmental sustainability has never been greater.

How EcoVision Tackles the Problem

EcoVision is equipped with several powerful features aimed at addressing the environmental challenges we face today:

AI-Driven Waste Identification: Users can take pictures of litter, and our AI system, built using the Tensor ML model, accurately identifies and categorizes the waste, providing proper disposal instructions.
Community Engagement Tools: EcoVision enables users to organize and participate in local cleanup events, fostering a strong sense of community and collective action.
Educational Resources: The app offers educational videos and articles on the impacts of deforestation and sustainable practices, empowering users with the knowledge to make environmentally friendly choices.

Inspiration

The inspiration for StockSmart came from observing the challenges faced by local shop owners in managing their inventory. Many small retailers struggle with tracking their stock levels accurately, leading to issues like overstocking, stockouts, and lost sales. We wanted to create a solution that simplifies inventory management and supports the growth of small businesses in our community.

What It Does

StockSmart provides a comprehensive inventory management system that includes:

Low Stock Alerts: Notifies store owners when stock levels fall below a predefined threshold.
Automatic Reordering: Automatically generates reorder requests when inventory reaches critical levels.
Sales Trend Analysis: Offers insights into sales trends to help with future stock planning.
POS Integration: Integrates with existing point-of-sale systems for real-time inventory updates.

How We Built It

We built StockSmart using the following technology stack:

Frontend: React.js for a responsive and interactive user interface.
Backend: Node.js with Express.js for the server-side logic and RESTful API endpoints.
Database: MongoDB for storing product, sales, and user data.
Hosting: Deployed on Heroku for the backend and Netlify for the frontend.
Tools: Figma for UI/UX design, Axios for API requests, and Chart.js for sales trend visualization.

Challenges We Ran Into

POS Integration: Ensuring seamless integration with various point-of-sale systems was a complex task due to differing APIs and data formats.
Real-Time Updates: Implementing real-time inventory updates required efficient handling of asynchronous operations and database consistency.
User Experience: Designing an intuitive and user-friendly interface that caters to non-technical users posed a significant challenge.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

Seamless Integration: Successfully integrating StockSmart with multiple POS systems to provide real-time inventory updates.
User-Friendly Interface: Developing a clean and intuitive interface that simplifies inventory management for small retailers.
Comprehensive Features: Implementing key features like low stock alerts, automatic reordering, and sales trend analysis effectively.

What We Learned

API Integration: Gained valuable experience in integrating third-party APIs and handling data synchronization.
User-Centered Design: Learned the importance of user feedback in designing an interface that meets the needs of small business owners.
Scalability: Understood the challenges and solutions associated with building scalable and maintainable software.
