I Built an Open-Source Gallery of Chrome Extensions and Browser UI Experiments

What if you could redesign the interfaces of the websites you use every day — and actually explore the code behind those experiments?

That's the idea behind Chrome UI Gallery, an open-source project I've been building to bring together browser UI experiments, practical Chrome extensions, and developer tools.

Instead of creating only static design mockups, I wanted to build a collection of projects that developers could inspect, test, customize, and learn from.

🎨 1. Experimental browser interfaces

The gallery includes alternative UI concepts for familiar platforms such as:

ChatGPT
Gemini
GitHub
Lovable

The experiments explore visual styles including glassmorphism, claymorphism, and dark interfaces.

Each design is organized with source files and documentation so developers can understand how it works.

🛠️ 2. Chrome extensions and developer tools

Chrome UI Gallery also includes practical browser utilities.

Some examples:

DevLens — page diagnostics, JavaScript errors, console activity, and network monitoring.

Cookie Manager Pro — browser cookie inspection and management.

ChatGPT Lag Fixer — performance utilities for lengthy ChatGPT conversations.

Viewport Studio — responsive testing across different viewport sizes.

TabPocket — save, organize, search, and restore browser tab collections.

These tools are open-source, allowing developers to inspect their implementation and permission requirements before installing them.

💻 3. A desktop manager built with Electron and React

The project also includes an Electron + React desktop application for browsing the gallery.

It provides project discovery, search, filtering, previews, and links to documentation.

An optional Chrome companion supports local extension management for supported actions when paired with the desktop application.

⚙️ 4. A data-driven project gallery

One of the architectural decisions was to avoid manually maintaining every gallery entry.

Instead, the website uses project manifests and optional metadata files to discover eligible Chrome projects.

A validation and publishing workflow helps keep the catalog organized as the repository grows.

This makes it easier to add new experiments without manually editing the website's project list.

🌍 5. Why open source?

I wanted Chrome UI Gallery to be more than a personal design portfolio.

My goal is to create a place where developers can:

Explore alternative browser interfaces
Learn from working HTML, CSS, and JavaScript implementations
Discover useful developer tools
Report bugs and suggest improvements
Contribute their own experiments

The project includes documentation and contribution guidelines to help people get started.
