&lt;p&gt;We retrospectively enrolled adults (aged ≥18 years) with intermittent exotropia who visited our clinic between September 2015 and May 2019. Patients with basic intermittent exotropia with a distant deviation within 10 prism diopters (PD) of the near deviation were included. The largest ocular deviations obtained before and after 1 hour of monocular occlusion were compared. The level of control was measured using the LACTOSE (Look and Cover, then Ten seconds of Observation Scale for Exotropia) control scoring system. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Forty-six consecutive adult patients (28 males, 18 females; mean age, 34.3 years) were enrolled. The mean ocular deviation was 36.3 PD (range, 18 to 5 PD) at distant fixation and 38.5 PD (range, 18 to 80 PD) at near fixation, which increased significantly to 38.5 PD (p = 0.043) and 41.1 PD (p = 0.011), respectively, after monocular occlusion. The mean ocular deviation increased ≥5 PD in 14 (30.4%) and 15 (32.6%) patients at distant and near fixation, respectively. The level of control was measured in 30 patients. A higher degree of near control was significantly associated with an increase of ≥5 PD in near fixation after the test (p = 0.009 for a near control score ≤2). &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The monocular occlusion test may help to determine the largest ocular deviation in adults with intermittent exotropia.  To evaluate the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in patients with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Fifty-six patients with NAION and 60 age-sex matched healthy controls were included in the study. Demographic characteristics and laboratory findings of the patients and the controls were obtained from the electronic medical records. STAT inhibitor NLR, PLR, MLR, and SII were calculated and compared between the groups. Cutoff values were also determined. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Neutrophil, monocyte and platelet counts were higher in the NAION group than in the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant (p &amp;gt; 0.05). The mean NLR and SII were higher in the NAION group than in the control group (p = 0.004 and p = 0.011, respectively). In the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the areas under the curve for NLR were 0.67, and NLR &amp;gt;1.79 predicted NAION with a sensitivity of 71% and specificity of 59%. The areas under the curve for SII was 0.66, and SII of &amp;gt;417 predicted NAION with a sensitivity of 71% and specificity of 49%. There was no significant difference in PLR and MLR between the groups (p = 0.105 and p = 0.347, respectively). &lt;/p&gt;

The patients were divided into two groups the study group comprising patients undergoing treatment with anti-glaucoma medications for suspected glaucoma; the control group comprising patients who did not use any IOP lowering medications. The changes in retinoschisis in the two groups were compared using the Spectralis domain optical coherence tomography thickness map protocol. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The study group included 18 eyes (17 patients), and the control group included 18 eyes (16 patients). There were no significant differences between the 6-month and 12-month improvement or aggravation rates of the two groups (p = 0.513 and 0.137, respectively). However, after 18 months, the aggravation rate of retinoschisis was significantly lower in the study group (p = 0.003). The improvement / aggravation rate was 58.33% / 16.67% in the study group and 0% / 57.14% in the control group. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We conducted a retrospective cohort study of all singleton pregnancies that involved cesarean section (CS) for PP at our hospital. All participants were divided into Bakri balloon (underwent routine prophylactic use just after placenta removal) and non-balloon groups, and into major and minor PP groups. Clinical outcomes in major and minor PP were compared between balloon and non-balloon groups. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The balloon and non-balloon groups contained 74 and 89 patients, respectively. There were 41 and 33 (balloon group) and 48 and 41 (non-balloon group) major and minor PP cases, respectively. Intraoperative and perioperative blood losses of major PP were significantly lower in the balloon group than the non-balloon group (1045ml versus 1553ml, P=0.016; and 1189ml versus 1810ml, P=0.006, respectively). The frequency of massive postpartum hemorrhage (&amp;gt;500ml) with major PP was lower in the balloon group than in the non-balloon group (2.4% versus 16.7%, P=0.027), but with no significant difference with minor PP. &lt;/p&gt;

Edible coatings are already being used to enhance the quality of minimally processed fruits. Thus, apple cubes (AC) and alginate-vanillin-coated apple cubes (AVAC) were subjected to HPP (400 MPa/5min/35 °C). The microbiological and physicochemical parameters were evaluated and the bioactive compounds were monitored before and after HPP of apple cubes. Thus, p-coumaroylquinic acid concentration was maintained for AVAC and AVAC-HPP during GID. Epigallocatechin, the compound with the highest concentration in apple cubes, increased for AVAC (106%) and AVAC-HPP (57%). Also, phloridzin concentration increased for AVAC-HPP (17%). At the end of GID, procyanidin B1 and epigallocatechin were the main phenolic compounds for all samples, AVAC showing the highest concentration. &lt;/p&gt;

 Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is an acute and fatal disease with various clinical and paraclinical characteristics. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In this article, we report data on confirmed CCHF cases from Iran and describe the association between studying factors and outcomes of the disease. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In the study design, we evaluated demographic characteristics, clinical, laboratory and sonographic findings of 160 CCHF confirmed cases during 2003 and 2012 in Zabol (A city in Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran). The association between these factors and the fatal outcome were evaluated by regression analysis. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The disease had a fatal outcome in 7 (4.4%) patients. Females had more severe symptoms and higher odds for death (odds ratio11.57, p=0.005). Leukocytosis (p&amp;lt;0.001), PT (p&amp;lt;0.001) and PTT (p=0.008) elongation, AST (p=0.010) and ALT (p&amp;gt;0.001) elevation were significantly associated with fatal outcome. CNS related symptoms (odds ratio 5.9, p=0.027) in clinical examination and ascites (odds ratio 38.4, p=0.012) and liquid in the pelvic cavity (odds ratio 24.2, p=0.004) were also identified as risk factors of death in this study. &lt;/p&gt;

Methods The study was conducted using phenomenology study design via an in-depth interview of 15 mothers who were purposively sampled from the list of pediatric TB cases in the MyTB version 2.1 database in Klang and Petaling Districts of Selangor state. The R-based qualitative data analysis package of R version 0.2-8 was used to perform the thematic analysis. Results Two main themes were identified from this study. The first theme was trust toward the healthcare services with the subthemes of acceptance, self-efficacy, holistic care, and perceived benefits. The second theme was the motivation to take or continue medication. The subthemes were support from family, healthcare workers' (HCWs') support, the convenience of healthcare services, community support, personal strength, and child's character. Conclusion TB treatment success for children can be achieved when parents develop trust in healthcare services and have strong motivational factors to remain steadfast in achieving a successful treatment goal. Psychosocial support should be provided to the primary caregiver who faced any difficulty, while good relationships between parents and HCWs should be maintained. These results will inform the TB program managers to strengthen the holistic approach and identify the motivational factors among parents of children with TB disease.Background There is no study that has systematically investigated the breadth and validity of the associations of folate and multiple health outcomes. In this study, to evaluate the contributions of the host and environment to the gut microbiota, we conducted a sequencing analysis of 16S rDNA and shotgun metagenomic DNA from plateau pikas and yaks, two sympatric herbivorous mammals, and further compared the sequences in summer and winter. The results revealed that both pikas and yaks harboured considerably more distinct communities between summer and winter. We detected the over-representation of Verrucomicrobia and Proteobacteria in pikas, and Archaea and Bacteroidetes in yaks. Firmicutes and Actinobacteria, associated with energy-efficient acquisition, significantly enriched in winter. The diversity of the microbial community was determined by the interactive effects between the host and season. Metagenomic analysis revealed that methane-metabolism-related pathway of yaks was significantly enriched in summer, while some pathogenic pathways were more abundant in pikas. Both pikas and yaks had a higher capacity for lipid degradation in winter. Pika and yak shared more OTUs when food shortage occurred in winter, and this caused a convergence in gut microbial composition and function. From winter to summer, the network module number increased from one to five in pikas, which was different in yaks. Our study demonstrates that the host is a dominant factor in shaping the microbial communities and that seasonality promotes divergence or convergence based on dietary quality across host species identity.The TP63 gene, which encodes the p63 protein, is involved in multiple biological processes, including embryonic development and tumorigenesis. Here we used the FLUXNET2015 and AmeriFlux datasets and published literature to explore the age-dependent variability of forest light use efficiency (LUE) and inherent water use efficiency as well as their main regulatory variables in temperate regions. Our results showed that evergreen forest RUEs initially increased before reaching the mature stage (i.e., around 90 years old), and then gradually declined; in contrast, RUEs continuously increased with age for mature deciduous forests. Changing canopy photosynthetic capacity (Amax) was the primary cause of age-related changes in RUEs across temperate forest sites. More importantly, soil nitrogen (N) increased in mature deciduous forests through time but decreased in older evergreen forests. The age-dependent changes in soil N were closely linked with the age dynamics of Amax for mature temperate forests. Additionally, soil nutrient conditions played a greater role in deciduous forest RUEs than evergreen forest RUEs.
