The Power of Silence: When Not Speaking is the Loudest Answer

We live in a world that worships noise.
Likes, comments, opinions, explanations... everyone wants to be heard.

But nobody talks about the magic of silence.

Silence isn’t weakness. It’s power.
When someone tries to provoke you, silence disarms them.
When drama unfolds, silence protects your peace.
Not every battle needs your voice. Some battles are won by walking away quietly.
Silence lets you hear yourself.
We’re so busy reacting to the world that we forget to listen to our own heart.
In silence, overthinking fades. In silence, clarity arrives.
That’s why monks meditate. That’s why writers stare at blank walls. Answers come when noise goes.
Silence heals what words can’t.
After heartbreak, after betrayal, after exhaustion... words feel empty.
But silence? Silence holds you. No judgment. No fixing. Just space to breathe and rebuild.
Silence is respect.
Silence when someone else is speaking.
Silence when you don’t have all the facts.
Silence when “I don’t know” is more honest than a fake answer.

People often ask me: "Sahira, how are you always so happy?"

Let me be honest - my life isn't perfect.
Not every day is good. Not every occasion is special.

But I learned one thing:
Happiness doesn't need an occasion.

Birthday or boring Tuesday,
Salary day or empty wallet,
200 likes or zero views,
I choose to be happy.

How? Just 3 small things:

Gratitude: Every morning I thank God for 3 things. Water. Breath. A new day.
Small wins: Wrote one line today? Win. Made someone smile? Win. Choosing happiness? Biggest win.
Spreading it: When I become the reason for someone else's smile, my happiness doubles.

I'm not perfect. I cry too. I get tired too.
But I don't waste my days being sad.

Because happiness is MY occasion. And it comes every single day.

Something Is Better Than Nothing

4 words. But they can change everything.

We waste so much time waiting for perfect.
Perfect time. Perfect plan. Perfect version of ourselves.

And while we wait... life passes by.

Didn’t study for 2 hours? Study for 10 minutes.

Too tired to work out? Do 5 squats.

Can’t write a full page? Write one sentence.

Don’t have money to save? Save 10 rupees.

It’s not about doing it all.

It’s about doing something.

Because 10 minutes > 0 minutes

1 sentence > blank page

5 squats > lying in bed

Small steps feel small. But they add up.

1 + 1 + 1 becomes 100 without you even noticing.

Progress isn’t loud. It’s quiet. It’s consistent.

It’s choosing "something" over "nothing" every single day.

So if you can’t give 100% today... give 1%.

If you can’t run... walk.

If you fall... just sit up and breathe.

Something is always better than nothing.

But when you are happy, no one to share.
When you are sad, no one to listen.

Friends make small happiness big.
Friends make big problems small.

Food tastes better with friends.
Pain feels lighter with friends.
Success feels real with friends.

Alone we only breathe.
With friends we really live.

You don't need many people.
You need few people who care.

Money can buy bed.
Friends give sleep.

Money can buy food.
Friends give taste.

Strange world, isn't it?

WHEN YOU SMILE

They say: "She's become arrogant."
"She doesn't see anyone anymore."
"Success has gone to her head."

Your happiness makes them uncomfortable.
Because it reminds them of their own unhappiness.

WHEN YOU CRY

They say: "She's doing drama."
"She's an attention seeker."
"Be strong, stop crying."

Your pain makes them uncomfortable too.
Because they don't know how to heal what they didn't break.

SO WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY WANT?

They want you in the middle.
Not too happy, not too sad.
Invisible. Silent. Convenient.

But you are not born to be convenient for others.

LESSON:

Stop shrinking your joy to make them comfortable.
Stop hiding your tears to avoid their judgment.

Some people will never be happy with you.
Not when you win. Not when you fall.

So live for YOU.
Laugh loud if you want to.
Cry if you need to.

Because the same people who can't handle your smile
Will also gossip about your silence.

YOU OWE THEM NOTHING.
NOT YOUR HAPPINESS. NOT YOUR TEARS.

LIVE FOR YOU, NOT FOR THEIR OPINION

Whatever you do in life, do it on YOUR terms.

CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF

Your job. Your partner. Your dreams. Your style.
This is your life, not their show.
People will talk for 2 minutes and leave.
You’ll be the one living with the consequences.

IGNORE OTHERS

You don’t owe a reply to every taunt.
You don’t owe an explanation for every choice.
Some people just want to see your reaction.
Don’t give them that satisfaction.

Silence is also an answer.
And sometimes, it’s the loudest one.

DON'T TAKE REVENGE

If you take revenge, you become like them.
And you are not like them.

Success is the best revenge.
Work quietly.
When you rise, they’ll get their answer without you saying a word.

REMEMBER THIS:

People won’t be happy with your decisions.
People won’t be happy with your silence.

The Laptop That Changed A Village

The Old Classroom

Sana lived in a small village near Lahore.
Her school had only 3 rooms and no computer.

Her dream was simple: "I want to learn coding".
But in her village, that dream felt impossible.

Her father said: "Beta, online education is for city kids.
We don't have those facilities here."

Sana smiled and said: "Abbu, all I need is internet and hope." The First Click

One day, her cousin gifted her an old laptop.
Screen cracked, battery dead, but it worked.

That night, Sana used her neighbor's WiFi for 10 minutes.
She typed 3 words in Google: "Free online courses".

The screen lit up with thousands of lessons.
For the first time, MIT, Harvard, Khan Academy...
All were sitting inside her broken laptop.

2 AM Classes

Electricity in her village came only after midnight.
So Sana made a new routine.

11 PM: Finish household work
12 AM: Charge laptop from power bank
2 AM: Learn Python while everyone slept

Her eyes burned. Her back hurt.

We thought the biggest drama in Grade 5 was "who sat on my bench".
Cut to 2026: The drama is "why is the light gone during a client meeting".

Grade 5: Crying over 2 marks lost.
Real life: Crying over 2k unexpected bills.

Grade 5: "Mummy, pack my lunch."
Real life: "Mummy, what should I cook for lunch, dinner, and my anxiety?"

But here’s what real life also taught me:
Small wins still count. Paying a bill on time = win.
Making your own tea after a bad day = win.
Showing up even when you're tired = biggest win.

We’re not kids anymore. We’re just humans figuring it out, one messy day at a time.

and somehow makes the silence feel lighter.

They laugh at your dumb jokes,
and stay when your jokes aren’t funny anymore.

They don’t fix all your problems.
They just make sure you don’t face them alone.

In a world that’s always in a hurry,
a friend is the one who slows down for you.

If you have even one such person in your life,
you are richer than you think.

Gratitude is the rent we pay for having them.

My Internet Package Was My Classroom

JUNE 16 AT 5:24 PM

It was 2020. COVID hit. Schools closed.
Colleges closed. Everyone was stuck at home.

Mother asked: "Beta, what will happen to your studies?"

Abba said: "We don't even have a laptop.
What will you study on a mobile?"

I had only 300 rupees in my pocket. I bought a 6GB monthly package.
That 6GB was my entire degree.

Zoom class at 9 AM. Internet was slow.
Sir's voice kept breaking: "tut-tut-tut".
I'd type in chat: "Sir, I can't hear you."
He'd reply: "sahira, keep your video off. Save data."

At 12 AM I'd open YouTube. Search "Learn Python for free".
Video would play on 144p so data would last.
It buffered every 10 seconds.
A 10-minute video took 1 hour to finish.

One day the power went out. Mobile was at 5%.
I had to submit an assignment

I Lost My Way in Muree Forest

I Lost My Way in Murree Forest... Then I Found Footprints That Matched Mine

It was supposed to be a 2-hour trek. Nathia Gali to Murree.

I started at 4 PM. Maps said "easy trail".

By 6 PM, fog rolled in. By 7 PM, I was lost.

By 9 PM, my phone died. 9% battery... then black.

The Sound

I heard water. Thought it was a stream. Followed it.

But the sound was footsteps. Matching my steps.

I stop... it stops. I walk... it walks.

I shouted: "Hello? Anyone here?"

Silence. Then... my voice repeated: "Anyone here... Anyone here..."

But the echo came 3 seconds late. Like someone was copying me.

The Footprints

I took out my torch. Shined it on the muddy ground.

Footprints. Fresh. Going the same direction as me.

Size 9. Just like my boots.

Same pattern. Same depth. Same distance between steps.

I panicked and ran. Slipped. Fell.

When I looked back at the ground...

The footprints in front of me... turned around.

And started walking towards me.

The Truth at Dawn

At the time of Fujr prayr. I saw a small cabin. An old man was outside.

I ran to him: "Uncle, I lost my way. Help me!"

He looked at my boots, then at the ground behind me.

His face went pale. He whispered: "Beta...
From 3 years no one come back alive."

" footprints you see... Those not come back."

I turned around slowly.

Behind me, the fog cleared for 2 seconds.

Dozens of people were standing there. All wearing boots like mine.

All with faces I couldn't see.

And all of them... had no footprints behind them.

Only footprints in front.

The old man pushed me: "Run ! Before they match their steps with yours!"

I ran. Didn't stop for 2 hours.

When I reached Murree road, I looked back one last time.

The footprints behind me... stopped.

And one new set started... walking away from me.

Size 9. My boots.
