I tried to learn python on my own last year from codecademy and MIT opencourseware youtube channel. I completed 80% of codecademy course and watched 4 lectures of MIT opencourseware, then I stopped, suddenly my interest level dropped maybe because I had university assignments piling up or maybe the course was not giving me any signals on how much I was improving. I am not trying to take away the value these course provide but as a commerce student, self learner and victim of instant gratification, these course did not work out for me.

Then I found neog camp, a bootcamp which is more focused on project based learning, in just a month I learned basics of HTML, CSS, javascript and even made two apps in react. Now I am on my way to take admission in level 1 of this bootcamp.

So first thing is watch a tutorial and then try to make the project from your memory, this will give you the confidence you need to keep going on this long journey also projects gives you satisfaction that you have created a working application at least it does for me.

You can join an online community where people share projects, solve doubts and make professional connections. There are tons of community out there but I have found it takes a lot of time to find a good active community, I have solved that problem for you, join this Team Tanay community where we discuss front end projects and solve doubts.

Last I would like to add is reading documentation, generally for a language there are websites which explains syntax and its usage but nothing is better than reading documentation, it will build your basics and is helpful when you are stuck.

Why not to eat everything in a plate?

Sometimes it happens so that you have lot of work to do and you feel, you could do more if you had 30 hours in a day. Personally this happens with me because I have too many things on my plate.

This topic is huge and tons of books have been written on time management, to keep this short I would like to tell a short story of an average international student from India and how can he solve this problem.

Our character name is Ramesh. He came to Australia to study his Masters degree at age of 25, he had to work part time to make ends meet and study full time, that is 70 hours of work weekly, moreover he has his own personal goal to learn programming which his degree does not provide and he has developed love for it. Everyday he wakes up and already has a lot to do, university assignments, part time job(physical work at a fuel station) and to code for 4 hours daily at least. This is a case of a full plate.

Now I have a solution for Ramesh, first of all he needs to think of his career as 5 years plan and keep everything he does in that perspective. For university assignments he can do bare minimum to just pass if he understands that a particular subject would not help him in his career, secondly for part time job he does not need to earn more what is more than needed, this generally happens with an international students, in race of earning more they forget what they came for, weekly pay and huge increment in hourly rate compared to India, side tracks them of their goal. This feeling of earning more can be handled by again keeping your long term career in mind, the fear alone will push you towards your career.

Just handling these two parts will give you more time to code.
