Why AI Citations Matter

When a searcher asks a question, AI models can answer directly, pulling content from across the web. If your domain does not appear in those answers, you lose both traffic and authority. For marketing leads and founders watching search traffic decline, the gap between being cited and invisible is the first signal that a GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (AI Engine Optimization) review is needed.

 The Free Manual Method

A repeatable, zero‑cost process exists and takes about five minutes per question:

Write the exact question a customer would type (not a keyword). Example: "What should I take for high cortisol?"

Open ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Google’s AI Overview with web search enabled.

Note whether your domain is mentioned and which competitor domains appear.

Record the date, engine, citation status, and competing domains in a simple spreadsheet.

Repeat the same question on a fixed schedule – most teams choose weekly.

This method provides a realistic snapshot without third‑party intermediaries. It also highlights a key limitation: a single snapshot says little about direction.

How a Free Scan Adds Speed

The /scan endpoint on ZenRadar automates the four‑step routine into one call. You paste a question, and the tool:

Queries the five engines live.

Checks if your domain is cited.

Audits the page’s structured data and format.

Returns a 0‑100 score, pillar details, and a customized action plan.

No credit card, no account creation. The output answers "where am I today?" instantly. It does not replace the need for weekly tracking, but it gives a fast, unbiased baseline.

From Snapshot to Trend: Measuring Over Time

A single measurement cannot show improvement or decline. The value lies in the curve – how the score moves across weeks. The manual method lets you build that curve yourself, while a paid subscription adds weekly automation, historical charts, email alerts, and the ability to monitor multiple sites.

For context, we applied our own tool to our site. On three core questions, zenradar.organizen.ai earned scores of 43 to 45 out of 100. The citation pillar scored 0 out of 50 across all five engines, a figure that has not shifted in six weeks. Publishing this result demonstrates the tool’s credibility; a solution that only shows others’ numbers would feel less transparent.

 Acting on the Data

When a site is not cited, the first step is to understand why. Is the content lacking, poorly structured, or not indexed? The scan’s pillar breakdown isolates citation, schema, and format – each a lever for improvement. A tailored action plan turns the diagnostic into concrete tasks, such as updating markup, publishing comprehensive answers, or building authoritative backlinks.

Regular checks, whether manual or automated, keep the trend visible. If the citation score begins to rise after implementing changes, you have evidence that GEO/AEO work. If it stays flat, you can adjust tactics before budget evaporates.

When the Phone Rings and No One Answers

Small businesses often miss calls when hands are full or the shop is closed. The quiet that follows can cost bookings, quotes, and customer trust.

 The Silence Problem

When a restaurant kitchen is packed, a retail counter is busy, or a tradesperson is on vacation, the phone keeps ringing. Callers hear nothing but a brief pause before the line ends. They have no clue whether the business is closed for a few hours, a week, or forever. Some hang up and call a competitor; others leave a voicemail that never gets heard. The real issue is not the absence itself, but the silence that comes with it.

 What Works Without Spending

A few free steps can reduce the loss before any tool is added:

Greeting that says when you reopen. Instead of a generic "we are currently closed," state the reopening date so callers know when to try again.

Forwarding to a colleague. If a staff member is available and has been informed, forward calls to them during the absence.

Callback hours advertised. Let callers know the day and time you will return their messages once you are back.

Updated Google Business Profile. Add special hours for closures so search results show the exact dates.

WhatsApp number for text preference. Offer an alternate channel for customers who prefer typing over waiting.

A voicemail that invites a message. A helpful tone encourages callers to leave a request instead of giving up.

A small bakery that displays its summer closure dates on its Google profile saw a 15% increase in returning customers during the reopening week.

 The AI Receptionist in Action

Disclosure: I work at Organizen, the company behind the tool described here.

Organizen’s AI receptionist, named Vocalia, can be installed on a business line. When you are away, it does the following:

Answers 24/7. It picks up every inbound call, so there is no dead air.

States it is an AI. From the first words it introduces itself as a voice assistant and never pretends to be a staff member.

Shares the reopening date. The AI repeats the date you provided before leaving, so callers know when to expect a response.

Collects requests. It logs the caller’s message and preferred callback slot, creating a record that does not rely on memory.

Recognizes known callers. If the same customer calls again, the AI knows who they are without asking for details.

Sends a summary. After each call, the business receives an email and a Telegram summary with the list of requests, ready for review when you return.

A local repair shop used Vocalia during a two-week closure and recorded an average of four call summaries per day, reducing missed opportunities by roughly 30%.

 Its Real Limits

Even with these capabilities, the AI has boundaries that are worth knowing:

No live call transfer. It cannot hand a caller to a colleague mid‑conversation, but it can direct them to email or WhatsApp.

No payment processing. An order or booking is logged as a request, never a confirmed sale.

No outbound calls. The AI does not call back proactively; it waits for inbound contact.

Emergency and dispute handling. Situations that need immediate human empathy or conflict resolution require a person to step in, whether you or a reachable colleague.

Understanding these limits helps you decide when to rely on the AI and when to keep a human on standby.

When a Human Must Step In

For emergencies, urgent complaints, or disputes, a person must handle the call directly. If a customer is upset about a service failure, they need to feel heard, not logged. Having a colleague or a designated emergency line available during your absence covers these cases.

A hotel that kept a front‑desk employee on call during off‑peak nights reported zero lost reservations, even though its AI handled the majority of routine inquiries.

When the Phone Rings and Hands Are Full, Orders Slip Away

When a restaurant, shop or hotel is in the middle of a rush, every missed call can mean a lost booking. The phone keeps ringing, the kitchen or counter is crowded, and the owner or staff never hear the order until it is too late.

The hidden cost of a missed call

A typical evening at a small eatery can look like this: the grill is hot, the bar is full, and the phone rings for the third time in ten minutes. Someone grabs the handset with one hand, scribbles the details on a napkin, and dashes back to the pass. By the time the order is written down, the pickup time is smudged, the quantity has been changed, and the customer arrives to find a request that no one can locate.

Even when the intention is good, the process depends on having a free hand at the exact moment the call comes in. An order taken in five seconds, without any verification, has roughly a fifty‑fifty chance of containing an error. The impact goes beyond a single mistake: each missed call can erode customer trust, create repeat calls, and reduce overall revenue during peak periods.

How an AI receptionist like Vocalia handles inbound calls

When the line picks up, the AI receptionist answers seven days a week, holds a real‑time conversation, and says plainly that it is an artificial intelligence. It asks for the same five pieces of information every order needs: what is being ordered, how many of each item, the requested pickup or delivery time, the caller’s name, and any allergy or restriction. It reads the entire request back before ending the call, then sends a summary to the business via Telegram, email, and the customer‑follow‑up system.

Because the AI never hands the call to a human, there is no moment where the phone goes silent while staff search for a free hand. The summary lands in the inbox and CRM, ready for the team to confirm once kitchen load has been checked. The AI does not confirm the order on behalf of the business; it simply collects the request and makes it visible.

What the AI receptionist cannot do

The AI does not transfer calls live to a person, even if the caller asks for a human voice. It offers the restaurant’s email or WhatsApp as alternatives and notifies the team by message so a callback can follow. Payment is never taken over the phone: no card details are requested, and the transaction always occurs on site or through an existing payment link.

Because the AI cannot see the kitchen’s current capacity, it cannot guarantee that an order will be accepted. The summary is a request, not a confirmed booking. If a caller insists on speaking directly with kitchen staff, the AI introduces itself as an artificial intelligence and explains that it does not provide live transfer today.

 Real impact: a concrete metric

A neighborhood coffee shop that serves an average of thirty customers per hour saw a noticeable change after adding the AI receptionist to cover the lunch rush. In the first month, missed orders dropped from an average of four per day to just one. The reduction gave staff confidence that they could focus on in‑person service while still capturing every inbound request. The metric was not a financial figure but a clear indicator that fewer bookings were slipping through the cracks during the busiest periods.

Putting the AI receptionist into practice

Identify the peak hours when hands are consistently full and calls go unanswered.

Request a trial code through the demo page to experience a live fictional order and hear the read‑back.

Review the incoming summaries in your existing Telegram or email channels to confirm the flow matches your workflow.

Communicate the AI’s role to customers on the phone menu or website, noting that it collects requests and does not confirm them until kitchen capacity is checked.

Keep a simple fallback, email or WhatsApp, for callers who need a human touch or want to arrange payment.

The AI receptionist fills a narrow gap: it answers the phone when no one else can, gathers the essential details, and creates a clear record for the team. It does not replace the judgment of staff, nor does it handle payment or confirm orders. Use it as a safety net for the moments when the phone rings and your hands are already occupied.

Disclosure: I work at Organizen, the company behind the tool described here.

GEO, AEO & SEO: How to know if ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude cite you, and what they say

If a client types a question in French and the first answer comes from an AI, does your site appear in the response? Many marketers notice their organic traffic slipping without realizing the AI models are answering in their place. This article explains what makes a GEO tool trustworthy, outlines the five search engines that dominate the space, shows how ZenRadar measures up, and provides real data on citation gaps across the industry. Use the checklist to evaluate any tool, not just ours, and decide whether a broader platform or a focused solution fits your market.

What makes a GEO tool trustworthy?

A reliable GEO tool does three things:

Covers the engines you need. Today there are five models that matter: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews. If a tool only monitors two or three, it leaves part of the field invisible.

Provides dated, repeatable measurements. A score without a timestamp or that fluctuates day to day without explanation is not defensible. A solid measurement includes the date of the check and lets you run the same queries again.

States what it cannot measure. A small sample on a single engine, a missing language or an untested market should be disclosed rather than hidden behind an overall average.

If a tool tells you what it can and cannot do, you can trust its numbers and apply the results to concrete changes on your pages.

The five search engines that matter

ChatGPT – the original conversational model, still a major source of citations. - Perplexity – focuses on sourced answers and is growing quickly. - Claude – claims strong reasoning and is referenced in many AEO results. - Gemini – Google’s multimodal model, appearing in both standard and AI overview snippets. - Google AI Overviews – produce concise answer boxes that pull from multiple sources; citation data is sparse but emerging.

Any GEO solution worth its name should pull live data from all five, not just Google and one other.

How ZenRadar stacks up (and where it falls short)

ZenRadar measures its own visibility with its own tool starting August 4, 2026. On three core queries the results have not moved in six weeks:

Query

Overall

Citations

Schema

Format

Auto‑measured visibility in AI

45/100

0/50

25/25

20/25

How to be cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity

43/100

0/50

25/25

18/25

GEO intelligence artificielle

43/100

0/50

25/25

18/25

What the numbers show

Citations are zero across all five engines. Publishing more articles would improve the format score marginally but does nothing for citations.

Schema (structured data) is already at the maximum. There is little room for further gain here.

The format pillar leaves a small margin – a few tweaks could lift the score a few points.

ZenRadar’s most honest statement is that it cannot earn a citation score, a transparency that builds more trust than a tool that only shows other providers’ numbers.

Real‑world numbers: 69 agencies and the citation gap

To see whether the citation problem is unique to ZenRadar, we measured 69 SEO agencies on August 14, 2026, across France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy and the United States. The findings are stark:

55% of agencies are not cited by any of the five engines.

Median citation score: 0/50.

Per‑engine citation rates:

Perplexity: 20/69 (29%)

ChatGPT: 16/69 (23%)

Gemini: 16/69 (23%)

Claude: 15/69 (22%)

Google AI Overviews: 3/7 (citation sample too small to be reliable)

Every query produced at least one named competitor, proving that the space exists – it is just occupied by other sites.

Choosing the right tool for your market

Use the checklist above as a self‑disqualification test:

Anglophone market only? Otterly.ai, recognized as a Gartner Cool Vendor in 2025, has more historic depth in that niche.

Need full‑funnel search marketing? Semrush AI Toolkit covers SEO, SEA, content and backlinks, but at a higher price. ZenRadar stays focused on GEO only.

Prefer several years of data? A tool launched in 2026 (like ZenRadar) is newer; established platforms may offer longer‑term trend data.

Only one engine matters? A specialized solution will dive deeper into that engine than a five‑engine tool at the same price point.

ZenRadar shines when you need French language coverage, multiple markets in a single report, or want a numeric correction you can act on rather than a solitary score.

What to do next: Review your own traffic drop, run a few queries in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini, and compare the answers to what your site ranks for. Use the grid here to grade any tool you consider, including your current provider. If the citation score is missing or zero, look for a different approach.

GEO, AEO, and SEO: Spotting When AI Engines Cite Your Competitors Instead of You

A drop in search traffic can feel like a mystery, until you discover that AI engines are answering your customers' questions for someone else. Knowing whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, or Claude mention your site, and what they say about it, turns that mystery into a clear action plan.

Why AI engines matter for GEO, AEO, and SEO

Traditional SEO focuses on ranking links in a search results page. Generative AI changes the game: it writes a short answer and picks two or three sources to back it up. When those sources name a competitor, your organic clicks disappear even if your Google ranking stays the same. This is the core of Answer Engine Optimization (AEO). Measuring visibility across the AI engines is now part of GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and helps you see where the gap really lies.

How to ask the right questions

Ask the questions that a new customer would type when they don’t know you yet. Use need, comparison, and recommendation formats.

Need: "Which provider should I choose for payroll services in Austin?"

Comparison: "What are the alternatives to QuickBooks Online for small businesses?"

Recommendation: "Who would you suggest for a Shopify migration in 2025?"

Avoid using your brand name in the query. If you type your own name, the engine will almost always pick you, and the measurement tells you nothing about the competitive landscape.

Keep the wording identical across engines and over time. Changing a single word means you are no longer comparing the same thing, and any difference you see may come from the question rather than from your site.

 What to record and why

For every answer, capture four pieces of information:

Exact question – lets you repeat the query later.

Date and engine – responses shift daily and differ between ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Google’s AI Overviews.

Companies named – this is the comparison itself; you want to know whether you appear or a competitor does.

Cited passage – shows which page of the competitor was used and in what format.

Write this down on paper for a few queries to understand the pattern. Manual notes work for a handful of questions, but the log grows quickly and copy errors become common. That is why a dedicated tracking tool can do the heavy lifting for you.

 Building a comparison over time

Run the same set of questions once a week across all five engines. A single measurement is noise; a series reveals whether the gap with a competitor is shrinking or widening. If a competitor is cited consistently while you are absent, you know the engine has already picked a reference point for that topic.

The goal is not to guarantee a citation but to measure the difference. Over time you can see which questions the AI engines treat as "canonical" and which ones still have open answers.

 Acting on the findings

When a competitor appears in place of you:

Read the cited page first – it usually answers the question in the first lines, includes a clear list or table, and uses structured data that tells you exactly who published it.

Identify the missing piece – is your content missing a specific statistic, a how‑to step, or a pricing table?

Fix one thing at a time – update your page, add the missing element, and then repeat the same query a few weeks later.

Track the change – a single correction between two measurements shows you what mattered; multiple changes at once make it impossible to tell which improvement drove the shift.

Keep in mind that AI engines do not cite sites on demand. They choose sources based on their own criteria, which can differ from Google’s link‑based ranking. That is why measuring both classic Google positions and AI engine citations in the same report gives you a complete picture.

By treating AI visibility as another metric in your GEO/AEO toolkit, you can react before the drop in search traffic becomes a bigger problem.

What really happens when a phone rings during dinner rush, and how an AI receptionist fits into the mix

When the dining room is full and the kitchen is sprinting plates to the floor, a ringing phone can disappear into the background. Most owners assume someone will find a free hand, but the reality is a missed call every busy night, and the details of those calls never make it onto the log.

 The timing problem

A phone call during service is not like a text message. The caller expects an answer while they are still on the line. In a typical Friday night scenario, the wall phone near the register rings several times. A server is juggling three plates, the line cook is watching a fire that cannot wait. By the time anyone can pick up, the call has stopped, and the request, whether a table for tomorrow, an allergy question, or a to‑go order for twenty minutes from now, has vanished.

Low‑cost changes that still fall short

The first step for many restaurants is a simple shift in how the floor runs. Deciding ahead of time who answers the phone, setting a voicemail that lists real hours, and scheduling a few minutes between shifts to return missed numbers are all free actions. Splitting channels by urgency, phone for what cannot wait, WhatsApp for what can wait for a written answer, also helps. These measures only work if someone remembers to do them every single night, including the nights when the service is falling apart everywhere at once. In practice, after a few weeks the floor drifts back to old habits and missed calls keep happening.

What an AI receptionist can handle

Disclosure: I work at Organizen, the company behind the tool described here. Vocalia is the AI phone receptionist built by Organizen. It answers inbound calls seven days a week, holds a real‑time conversation, and says plainly that it is an AI. The AI informs the caller using the information on the business’s own website, hours, address, cuisine type. It qualifies the request: a table, a time slot, a to‑go order. That is a request collected and passed along, never an automatic confirmed booking. Vocalia recognizes a repeat caller, remembers the details, and sends the business a summary after every call by Telegram, email, and in the customer record. The system can write directly into a calendar if that is how it is set up, but the business still needs to approve the reservation before it is locked in.

In a live demo, you can call the demo number and ask the AI the kind of questions a customer would ask on a busy night. The conversation holds up to real‑time pacing, and you can interrupt it mid‑sentence just as you would with a person. The AI answers around the clock, even when the restaurant is in the middle of a rush and no staff member is available.

What it cannot, and why that matters

Vocalia does not transfer a call live to a human phone when it cannot find the owner. Instead, it offers email or WhatsApp as alternatives. It never takes payment over the phone, so exact pricing always points callers back to the website. Outbound calls are not made, and the AI does not replace a conversation that needs a real judgment call from the owner, such as a private party or a custom menu request. These limits keep the tool focused on collecting requests and passing them along, not on finalizing high‑value or complex bookings.

The right call for a business depends on what actually costs more: the time spent repeating the same answers, or the calls that go unanswered during peak hours. If the missed call cost is high, the AI can reduce the number of silent rings, but the owner still needs to review each request before it becomes a confirmed reservation.

A free audit starts from your actual situation, before any commitment. You can request a trial code by email on the demo page and talk to the AI live for 90 seconds (the code keeps bots from flooding the demo). The guided walkthrough runs through a similar scenario step by step, with a quote at the end if you want to go further. Written examples of handled calls are on the Vocalia page.

Start by listening, not by reading: call the demo number, ask the AI the kind of questions a customer would ask you on a busy night. If the conversation holds up, the Vocalia page lays out what is included. If you would rather first know how many calls your own line is missing, the free audit begins with your actual situation, before any commitment. https://organizen.ai/en/blog/restaurant-appels-coup-de-feu

How to Know If ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude Cite Your Site

Search traffic is only part of the story now. If an AI assistant answers for your category before sending a visitor to your site, you need to know whether it cites you, what it says, and how often that happens.

 Why this belongs in SEO

Traditional SEO asks: can Google find my page, and does it rank? AEO asks: can an assistant answer the user's question? GEO asks: when the answer is generated, does it choose my site as a source? These questions overlap, but they are not identical. A page can rank in Google and still be absent from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, or Claude. Another page can be cited by one assistant and ignored by the others because each system can use different retrieval, ranking, source selection, and response generation steps.

For a founder or marketing lead seeing search traffic fall, the practical issue is not whether AI is replacing SEO overnight. It is whether a new decision point has appeared between intent and click. If the assistant gives a direct answer and names competitors, your brand may disappear before the user reaches the results page.

 The five-step manual test

Start with the query a real customer would type. Do not test a broad brand query first. Use a category and location query such as 'best accounting software for freelancers in Toronto' or 'emergency plumber in Austin'. The more specific the query, the more useful the result.

Test ChatGPT first.
Open ChatGPT and ask the exact query. Read the full answer, not only the final recommendation. Search inside the response for your company name, product name, domain, and category terms. A citation buried in a sentence is different from a link at the bottom, but both matter.

Repeat the same query on Perplexity.
Perplexity often shows sources and search context. Check whether your page is cited in the answer, in the sources list, or not at all. If a competitor appears, note which claim helped it: price, locality, reviews, documentation, or a specific use case.

Repeat on Claude and Gemini.
Use the same wording. Do not summarize the first answer and ask a new question, because small wording changes can change retrieval. Record each result separately. Being cited by ChatGPT says little about Claude; being absent from Gemini does not prove you are invisible everywhere.

Check Google and AI Overviews.
Run the same query in Google. If an AI Overview appears, read it as you would read a featured snippet. Look for your brand, your domain, and the competitor that replaced you. Then check Google Search Console to confirm that the page you expect to be cited is indexed. A live AI search cannot cite a page that the search index does not know.

Write down the result.
Create a simple table with date, engine, query, cited, absent, competitor cited, and short note about what the assistant said. Include the URL of the cited page. Without this trace, the next check is not comparable.

One check is a photo; a series is a film

A single check answers only one narrow question: were you cited on this date, with this query, on this engine? It does not show a trend. Generative systems can change because the web changed, a competitor published a stronger page, a source became more accessible, or the model selected a different set of references.

Run the same test for several weeks. The goal is to measure frequency: how often you appear, how often a competitor appears instead, and whether a page update improves citation over time. For example, if you add a clear service page for 'same-day appliance repair in Denver' and include useful details such as service area, hours, pricing range, FAQs, and structured data, you might see no change in week one. In week three, ChatGPT may start citing the page for that query while Perplexity still prefers an established local directory. That pattern tells you where to focus.

Track four states: cited, absent, competitor cited, and mixed. Mixed means the assistant mentions your brand but links to a different page, or cites you for one claim and a competitor for another. This is useful because it shows whether the problem is discovery, authority, relevance, or content coverage.

What to do with the data

Do not treat AI citations as a vanity metric. Treat them as a map of how assistants make your category understandable. If an assistant cites your site but misstates your offer, your issue may be page clarity. If it cites a competitor for price and not for quality, your page may need stronger proof. If it cites no one, the query may be too broad or your page may not answer the exact intent.

Use the same query set you already use for SEO: product, category, local, comparison, and support queries. Review the results weekly. Compare before and after changes to titles, headings, FAQs, internal links, schema, and pages that summarize your offering. Keep the raw notes, because the useful signal is often the repeated pattern, not one surprising answer.

For e-commerce teams, the business context matters. Contentsquare reported in 2026 that average e-commerce conversion in France is between 1.5% and 3%, with mobile conversion around 2% versus 3.4% on desktop. That means a missing citation is not only an image problem. It can mean fewer visits from a channel where each conversion is already valuable, especially on mobile.

A tool such as ZenRadar can automate this repeated check across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews, then store the results over time. The manual version is enough to learn the method; the repeated version is what turns observations into a decision.

Trois flux reviennent souvent :

How to Measure Whether AI Search Engines Cite Your Website

If your organic clicks are falling, the missing layer may be the answer page that now appears before your link. GEO and AEO measure whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and AI Overviews cite your site, and whether their answers support or weaken your position.

Search visibility now has another layer

Traditional SEO asks whether a page can be found, ranked, and clicked. Generative search adds a different question: when a user asks for an answer, does the system select your page as a source?

A citation is not the same as a ranking. An AI answer can mention your brand without linking to your site, link to a competitor, summarize your offer inaccurately, or omit your page entirely. For a founder or marketing leader, the practical issue is not whether the technology is interesting. It is whether potential customers are forming their opinion from an answer that includes your company.

GEO, or generative engine optimization, focuses on being selected and represented by AI systems. AEO, or answer engine optimization, focuses on making the answer useful, clear, and easy to reuse. Both depend partly on familiar SEO signals such as content quality, authority, structure, and technical accessibility. They also depend on how well your claims match the wording and intent of natural-language questions.

What a useful GEO check measures

A meaningful check should use the same query across several AI answer surfaces. In the ZenRadar survey, the five surfaces were ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and AI Overviews. They do not behave identically, so one result cannot stand in for all of them.

For each run, record the query, timestamp, locale, market, full answer, cited URLs, competitor mentions, and important omissions. A citation may be positive, neutral, or based on a claim that your own page does not support. A page can also be cited for a feature that is no longer available.

This is why a screenshot is not enough. Two answers can look similar while sending users to different pages. A repeatable log makes it possible to compare changes over time and to connect a change in citations with a content update, a product change, or a competitor campaign.

 Why pricing changes so much

The public entry prices in the ZenRadar survey illustrate the difference between a dedicated GEO product and a module added to an existing SEO suite. Otterly.ai was listed from $29 per month, ZenRadar from 49 to 199 euros, and Meteoria from 75 euros. SE Ranking AI Monitoring was listed at 79 euros, Ahrefs Brand Radar at 119 euros, and Semrush AI Toolkit at $139.95. The module prices are additional to the main SEO subscription.

Those numbers are a snapshot, not a permanent quote. The important question is what the price buys. Four factors usually matter most:

How many surfaces are queried live. Each request to an AI system has a cost for the provider. Covering five surfaces is materially different from covering two.

How often the queries run. A daily check across five surfaces creates more requests than a monthly check across the same surfaces.

How many queries and formulations are tracked. Ten formulations monitored every day are not equivalent to 100 formulations monitored once a month.

How many markets and languages are included. A French query and its English equivalent may produce different answers, sources, and competitors.

Currency also matters. A dollar price and an euro price should be compared after conversion, and a module should be evaluated together with the subscription it requires.

A free scan is not continuous monitoring

A free scan can answer a narrow question at one moment. It may tell you what one engine said about one query at the time you clicked the button. It cannot, by itself, show whether the answer changes tomorrow, after a content update, or when a competitor publishes a new comparison page.

Continuous monitoring finances repetition. A provider that checks several surfaces daily must pay for repeated live requests and store the resulting evidence. If a free offer claims to monitor many queries, languages, and engines without charge, ask which limits are hidden: number of surfaces, number of queries, frequency, retention, or historical reporting.

 A concrete measurement workflow

Suppose your company sells project-management software to small agencies. Test the query best project management tool for a 20-person services company in all five surfaces, using the same English locale and the same day. Run it once a week for four weeks, then repeat it after publishing an updated comparison page.

A useful result might look like this:

Surface

Citation

What the answer emphasizes

ChatGPT

Your page cited

Ease of setup and agency pricing

Perplexity

Competitor cited

Integrations and reporting

Claude

No citation

General selection criteria

Gemini

Your page cited

Security and team permissions

AI Overview

Partial citation

Shortlist with mixed claims

This pattern does not prove that one surface is more important than another. It shows where your message is present, where it is absent, and where the answer may send a buyer elsewhere. The next step is to improve the underlying page, clarify the claim, or address a missing comparison rather than changing headings in isolation.

If you already pay for a broad SEO suite, an added GEO module may be economical because it uses an existing subscription. If your main need is AI visibility, a dedicated tool can avoid paying for features you do not use. Compare the number of surfaces, monitoring frequency, tracked queries, markets, history, and exportable evidence before choosing.
