Built VANTAGE.AI — an AI-powered mock interview platform designed to help students and job seekers practice interviews in a realistic, interactive environment.

The project started as a simple academic capstone idea.

The original goal was straightforward:

Generate interview questions from a resume and provide basic feedback.

That version worked, but it wasn't the product I wanted to build.

Real interviews are not static forms.

They are conversations.

They involve pressure, communication, confidence, and continuous improvement.

So I expanded the project into a complete interview preparation platform.

The Comeback Story

VANTAGE.AI was not abandoned because the idea failed.

It was unfinished because the first version solved only part of the problem.

The initial implementation focused on question generation and evaluation.

While useful, it lacked the realism and engagement needed for effective interview preparation.

The more I tested it, the more obvious the limitations became.

A good mock interview platform needs more than generated questions.

It needs:

Personalization
Conversation flow
Progress tracking
Reporting
Analytics
Realistic interaction

That's when I decided to finish the project properly.

What Changed During Finish-Up-A-Thon

The challenge gave me the opportunity to revisit unfinished parts of the project and improve the overall experience.

One of the biggest upgrades was introducing voice interaction.

Instead of simply reading questions from a screen, users can experience a more natural interview flow.

This significantly improves realism and engagement.

Challenges I Faced

Building features was only part of the journey.

Making them work reliably in production was often harder.

Deployment Problems

The application worked locally but initially failed during deployment.

The root cause was incorrect environment variable configuration.

After resolving deployment settings and verifying API integrations, the platform became stable in production.

Database Issues

Interview attempts were not always being stored correctly.

I encountered:

Missing records
Incorrect score retrieval

Improving database validation and query handling resolved these issues.

PDF Generation Problems

Generating professional reports required multiple iterations.

The first versions worked technically but produced poor user experiences.

After redesigning layouts and improving formatting, the reports became significantly more useful.

GitHub played a major role throughout development.
