Building a backend application is not only about creating APIs that work. A good backend should also handle authentication, data validation, permissions, and secure access to user data. During my internship at Valentius Kryptix, I worked on a Task Manager REST API using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.

The main objective of this project was to create a backend system where users can securely manage their tasks through REST APIs. Instead of building separate pages for every operation, the application provides API endpoints that can be consumed by different frontend applications such as React. One of the important parts of the project was user authentication. Token-based authentication was implemented so that users could securely access protected APIs. After authentication, the token can be sent with API requests to identify the logged-in user. This helped me understand how authentication works in real-world backend applications.

The project also implements CRUD operations for task management. Users can create new tasks, view their tasks, update task information, and delete tasks when required. Each task contains information such as title, description, status, and priority. Different task statuses and priorities help organize and track work efficiently.Another important area was data validation. The API checks incoming data before saving it to the database. For example, required fields must contain valid information, while task status and priority must follow the allowed values. Invalid requests return appropriate validation errors instead of being stored incorrectly.

I also worked with permissions and user data isolation. Authenticated users should only be able to access and modify their own tasks. This is an important security concept because backend systems should not allow one user to access another user's private information.

To verify the API functionality, I used Postman for sending requests and checking responses. I tested authentication, task creation, updating, deletion, validation errors, and other API operations. This helped me understand how APIs are tested before they are connected to a frontend application.

Working on this project gave me practical knowledge of Django REST Framework, REST API development, authentication, CRUD operations, validation, permissions, and API testing. It also helped me understand how backend services can provide reliable APIs for frontend applications.

For a detailed explanation of the project, implementation approach, security practices, and development steps:

This project was a valuable hands-on experience and helped me strengthen my understanding of backend development with Python and Django.
