How to get Experience in Tech as a Student?

If you have ever tried to apply to either Full time or even Intern positions in Tech as a Student. You must have come across these crazy requirements of experience.

You need to have 1 year, 2 years, 3 Years of experience!

I mean it can be really overwhelming for students or beginners out there who really want to work, learn & get that first Experience which is super important.

For example, I have been rejected many times after the Recruiter reached out to me based on my resume & stuff. But I was either denied or ghosted by them when I said that I'm an Undergrad & not a graduate. And obviously, these were big companies or on their way to becoming one.

But I mean if you reach out based on the work shouldn't you at least interview & reject on basis of skills and not on so-called Experience or conventional degrees. But in hindsight, it is understandable from the POV of the company.

So, from my small experience being a student, working at startups & learning from various people till now, I'm going to share with you some points or steps you can take that will get you this work experience as a student.

This is super cool because even before you graduate you will know how Software engineering works, how to build a product that people use, hone your skills and be great at it, and if you build something cool or work somewhere you can also earn some money which might help you and your family out!

First of all, I would like to just remind you that you don't need any conventional path to become an engineer & especially a software engineer.

They say the best things in the world are free. Code is permissionless, if you want to learn it you can learn it for free, nobody or no degree makes you an engineer, you become one when you build things.

And all these things can be followed by anyone even if you don't have a degree or a super good college because all these don't matter if you have skills.

Wait & if you are a video person here you go 🙌 :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGm8iOqE4bk

So with that in mind let's get started 👇:

Opensource

The point with opensource is that if you are contributing to a good project you are already a Software Engineer. That is the reason companies directly reach out to folks with great Github stats, contributing to great projects consistently.

You will notice that many of the good programmers are super active in contributing to open source projects selflessly. I mean that's the living proof of your experience and skills.

The code does all the talking you don't have to!

And I understand seeing these big opensource projects can be pretty intimidating. But you can start small with some tech stack you know, just go to GitHub search that, find beginner-friendly issues, clone the repo and try doing things locally.

And make that first PR of many to come.

  2. Build Projects

Now I am a big believer in building Projects because mostly every big thing that you see or use now just started as a small project or side project at some point of time by some "one".

I myself got a lot of confidence by just building things.

Projects are the bridge the makes you an intermediate from a beginner & eventually even an expert.

So I would suggest don't just learn, instead invest more time in just building stuff this will automatically make you learn way better than if you would have just learned. I built HackrNews when I wanted to learn NextJS.

Now once you build things the next step is publishing those to the world:

If you work on the Web, deploy the project for free on sites like Heroku, Netlify, or Vercel.

If you work on mobile try to publish your apps to the play store.

If you work on ML, try to make a simple UI to make a normal user interact with the model.

The result of doing this is that you are not just building projects but products that people can use & interact with and who knows what that might lead to !

I know people who have published very simple apps to play store with 100 thousand downloads now. This will definitely land you an internship let alone buying offers and Jobs!

  3. Applying to Startups

I will tell you this from my experience and also it is pretty well known that it's super hard to work in well-established companies as an undergrad. Because of their requirements, one of them being you should not be an undergrad. 😄

So, what's the solution, what will you do if you want to work, learn & get that experience. Well, the answer is startups!

India is currently having a startup boom which Silicon valley once had some years ago, there are lots of funding & investments being poured into great ideas.

And people desperately want to hire people with skills to turn those ideas into real products & nobody cares about experience. which is exactly how it should be!

I work at a startup now being a student & I get to learn how a product is being made from nothing which is invaluable than 4 Years of College.

So trust me you will learn a lot and get that experience! So go apply on sites like AngelList, YCombinator, and you can watch this video for various more such listings!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTmWNumMSnM

  4. Share your Learning/Work in Public

What does this mean? Well, this means that share whatever you learned throughout the day, your wins, your failures, your learnings with people on the internet. Not just share the certificates that you get because those don't mean anything, instead, share what are you building now, what new topics did you learn, What problems are you facing learning a certain thing?

Twitter is the best platform to do this because of its great tech community.

Make a page online or portfolio online to show all your Projects where anyone can check out the work you have been doing by just clicking on a link. As the paper resumes will be obsolete soon.

If you do it, you will find learning in Tech is a journey, and sharing it will make it super enjoyable, not let you burn out & also draw in many opportunities. Trust me recruiters start reaching out to you many times if you are sharing great stuff on LinkedIn or Twitter.

So, these were some points I wanted to share because I have got some great opportunities due to some of these and I have seen many amazing people doing great because of such stuff.

And the best part is these have no prerequisites and anyone with just the will to learn can do these.

And there are many who may not be in a good college or can't afford a degree and might think that working in Tech is not possible. But it's never that!

So go and get these awesome experiences!

Do let me know your thoughts below, it means a lot ! 🎉🙋‍♂️

Hi, fellow Programmers, I understand the pain of searching APIs for a project that you have an idea of. Wandering around the internet and not finding it sometimes.

So I went around the internet and curated 10 Sites that have the most massive listing of APIs. And you can use these APIs for free on any project idea that you have!

Waaait..if you are a video person I've got you covered 👍:

So without further ado, here they are 👇:

  1. public-api Github Repo :

If you have ever searched for API Listings you must have come across this github repository. As it has a massive collection of 915 APIs in one place. And has around 154,000 Github Stars ! 🤯

Go to public-api.

  2. Rapid API :

This is a really helpful product based on just APIs. It's not just a listing of APIs but also a marketplace for APIs. If you have built an API and want to charge people for using it, you can just put it on RapidAPI.

And if you just want to use APIs, you can even test an API on multiple languages, in the API playground that RapidAPI provides! 👌 It is really helpful.

Go to the Free API listing of RapidAPI.

  3. Dev Resources :

This is not just an API resource but as pretty explanatory from its name - It has super awesome resources from various categories for a Developer! 😀

Go to Dev Resources - Public API.

  4. API House :

SuperClean UI. Choose the API category and get awesome APIs.

Go to API House .

  5. Public APIs:

According to Public Apis, they have a collection of 800+ interesting and useful Public APIs under 70+ categories.

Go to Public apis.

  6. Public Apis:

This is a super awesome place. Good UI. You can submit and list your own APIs. You can learn a lot about APIs from it "Learn" section. You can search APIs. Filter them according to free of premium & also the category!

Has a great newsletter too with 45,000 users as said in the site.

Go to Public APIs.

  7. API List:

  10. Public API:

A ton of fun APIs in here too!

Go to Public API .

I hope it helps you make more awesome projects, get more confident and be a better Engineer!

Hey there welcome to this special blog where I launch an app I have been working on!

This app is really special for me as this is probably the most complete thing I have built as it is not only a web app but also a Cross-Platform working Progressive Web App.

I have also added a Landing Page, produced some mockups for it & what not. 🧡

Okay, enough talking let me show you the Product!

  Introducing HackrNews ! 🎉

I know you love reading HackerNews so why not read it with ease !

I'll not make you wait till the whole post get over, here you go : HackrNews . You can check out it's Source Code here : Github

With HackrNews you can enjoy reading the best of Tech in a more convenient and cool way as compared to the original HN with features like ⚡:

  Super Clean UI 🌄

🚩 We all love reading HackerNews due to its invaluable content but its UI always was a pain point for many. For example, it has a really small font which becomes really hard to read on a small screen.
The result being we mostly read it on our Laptops/PC while slacking off our work.😅

And all this is pretty understandable as Paul Graham🙌 made it more than a decade ago!

✅ But not anymore I have tried to fix that in HackrNews's, with a Clean, Responsive, and a Feed Focused UI. So that you can just open it and start absorbing it!

PS: I'm not a designer but I have a good eye for one, probably as I used to love drawing a lot as a kid. Thus what you see is just my imagination of what would look good. So looking forward to your feedback on the look.😃

  Dark/Night Mode 🌓

🚩 I mean common being techies we need Night Mode at such a holy place like Hacker News right! 🙇‍♂️

✅ So there you go, HackrNews has Dark/Night mode toggle on all the devices. Thus you don't have to strain your eyes anymore while enjoying your reading sessions! 🤗

  Read Anywhere 🌌

🚩 Now you can either :

Use your PC all the time or at any place.

You can open your browser, go to the bookmarks or type the link.

And then start reading or...🙄

✅ You can just tap once on any device of yours & start reading!

Exactly for this reason I made HackrNews a Progressive Web App!

Or in other words, HackrNews will work as a native app in whatever OS you install it in!

Here's how you can install HackrNews on your phone 📱:

  More than A Feed!⚡

It is not only a feed where one can just scroll and read the headlines.

You can also tap on the User to see the all-time posts of the user on HN & their Karma. 👇

You can also tap on the Comments to read the comments made on a post to know the various perspectives of people. 👇

Wait it's not over, You can Sign Up easily into HackrNews and start Bookmarking Posts you Love! 🚀

Then you can go to your profile to check those saved Posts.

That brings me to Auth0, I loved implementing authentication with this and NextJS as HackrNews is built with it.

In fact, I found the process so clean and fast that I created and published a on how to add Authentication to a NextJS app using Auth0. 🤯

And I will definitely be using it further in my projects and will be ranting to people to use it as I also do with Hashnode! 😄

Wait.. I also found a very interesting thing that with Auth0- *You can easily store the Signing Users in a Custom Database too ! *

You can enable it by the following steps 👇:

Log-in in to your Auth0 dashboard.

Go to Authentication in the sidebar & select Database from its submenu.

Then Click the Custom Database tab and enable it!

Now you can just select the type of Database you have and Auth0 has all the necessary functions already set up. You just have to add the Credentials of your DB !

I have used that to store the signing-up users into HackrNews into a MongoDB instance for any future features/use. 📌

Why did I build HackrNews? 🛠

Now that you enough about the app now let me share what inspired me to build HackrNews.

Personally, I love reading HN but I thought that if HN is such a great site with great content, it should be revamped. As the ones who just discover it would just simply ignore it just by judging how it looks.

And then I also found this conversation that made me know that some people really find it difficult to read 😞 : https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7614167

So, I thought why not then try to combine the power of HackerNews's content with the today's best Web Technologies !

Around this time I also wanted to learn NextJS and what better way to learn something than building something with it!

So everything just seemed to fit together nicely leading me to use NextJS to build HackrNews. As it's the fastest and super optimized Framework in the market.

Thus HackrNews is Server-Side-Rendered and enjoys benefits like Fast Loading, SEO, and whatnot.

And officially making HackrNews my first NEXT Project of many to come!

  Future Plans 🏹🌈

Let me share some future plans or features I have in mind for HackrNews 👇:

A Feature above the feed to Sort/Filter the Feed according to Popularity, Time, and stuff.

Make it more personalized for the Auth0 authenticated User with a Special Feed according to the User's interest.

Make a HackrNews Twitter Bot that automatically puts out interesting Tech Tweets!

Will be saving up some money to buy a domain for it. 😄

  Conclusion

I had an awesome time building HackrNews!

Your Feedbacks, Comments, and Recommendations are what I'm eagerly waiting for. Would love to know your thoughts on the product or any feature ideas you would love to have. 🧏‍♂️

I will definitely be more than happy to implement those and make HackrNews better iteratively!🚀

Would love to connect with you ! 👋:

Why DSA vs Development is BS ? (Ps: It's Computer Science)

Nowadays I see many students are facing a dilemma called DSA vs Development.
Should I keep practicing questions? Should I do development just to get it on the CV or Should I do both or how to do both? 🙄

And the point is all these things ideally should never be there!

Waait.... If you are a video person- I've got you covered! :

  The Problem

So let's see from where did this thing actually come from? And if you notice, this wasn't an issue some 3-4 years ago.

And I believe in blaming oneself before anyone else. So let's see what's wrong with us first.

So first of all what I see is this generation of ours is always absorbing so much content from the internet.

For example, in one video you see some getting really good results just by doing development while in another by CP or DSA. While on the other hand you are constantly being hit by ads of some companies or people selling courses saying- "We will make you a Full Stack Engineer in 2 months !", "Take this DSA course and be placed in FAANG!"

I mean I can guarantee - your emails are filled with such ads luring you towards these paid courses.

It's just the sheer amount of information out there and its consumption that changes how you think today.

Now being a human you naturally start comparing yourself and end up in this ridiculous situation.

If I will be really honest these companies just want to make profits off the goals or in some cases the insecurity of students to get placed at a good place, which is also understandable from their perspective. I mean it's a really good business strategy.

And let's be real almost everyone is just after making some money & there is nothing bad in that.

But trust me the ones who teach you in these paid courses have learned everything for free & You should too.

And if you go a bit deeper- this concept is just born out of pure placement-mindedness instead of learning this beautiful subject that could literally change things.

  The Solution

I believe that there can be a lot of chaos outside but we have the control over ourselves to just mute what's outside and carve our own path.

Some actionable steps you can take to stay away from all this:

Just stop consuming and try a lot of things, fail a lot and learn yourselves.

Go through the accounts you follow and ask yourself - "Does this provide you some value or align with your goals?" If not unfollow the account. You will see the results of it in long term.

Stop comparing yourself to something whether on the internet or in real life because it's really toxic. Instead, be super happy and push others to succeed!

Before probably 8-9 months or so I was too in this, thinking what should I do. But after trying a lot of things and trust me I have tried a lot of stuff as one should in early college years.

Then I just realized that why don't just see everything as just Computer Science as it should be, and not make such unnecessary divisions.

Now once you see everything as Computer Science it's natural that you also learn these beautiful algorithms, solve problems with them and eventually build things!

That's how Computer Science works. Everything else is BS.

  Don't Be Biased.

Now if you are biased towards DSA, you will say - "I don't care about building as this is what is needed in interviews of giants."

And if it's the other way you'll say - "Well, eventually you have to make things so who cares about DSA."

And it may make a lot of sense to you as you are biased. But I'll say from my experience you'll need a good mixture of both to be a good Engineer.

Trust me I have done both and will be doing both because speaking from experience- One needs DSA to be a really good Engineer. It's the ABC to writing good code. You learn the art of breaking things down!

And on the other hand, I genuinely love building things that people use and definitely not for just getting them on the resume.

  A Story

Let me tell you a story recently I was working at a small company. Wait so a point here is that I got this job is in my 2nd year of college!

So, knowing how to build things opens up a lot of opportunities for you early.

I implemented many features which did seem really hard to implement at first but by just breaking them down into smaller problems I did it. And that right there is the essence of solving these seemingly boring algorithmic problems. You learn how to break the problem into smaller problems and work your way through solving them.

As a seemingly great feature is nothing but a seemingly large problem that can be solved by breaking into smaller problems.

So, while working there or on the so-called development side of things, I understood what solving problems using DSA does to you.

  Why do companies test DSA?

Let me clear this as many have this question. It's because most of their codebase has legacy code or old code with some specific tech stack they use. They require people who have clear basics of programming i.e DSA.

Because if you are good at these core stuff like OOPS, Data Structures, Algorithms, etc, you can pick up any language or framework really really fast!

And later they train these selected candidates according to the team or product the person would be working on.

For example - Google doesn't care if you know React, they use Angular right!

  The Conclusion

So from what I have realized is that - Building things will give you opportunities at an early stage and knowing DSA will help you do great at those opportunities.

So, DSA and Development complement each other thus a good engineer must be good at both at some point.

Because at the end one has to use these skills to solve some real-life problem, else there is no point of it all!

So, I'll suggest you first that don't be anxious about placements and stuff, just work on your skills, do things you love doing & eventually things will fall in place, and even if they don't you will never have regrets. God, I have to stop being philosophical!😄

From now on don't get into this BS trap, just know that it's all Computer Science and things will be way easier.

And do let me know your thoughts in the comments, would love to know your perspective!

I love writing and creating videos. You can find me here on Twitter & Youtube !

Came across this recently : https://bit.ly/3jucY7X

So, will be building: A Revamped HackerNews !

Also thinking of using a DB to let users bookmark posts with a profile page of every user, thus making it full stack.

Goals :

To learn NextJS by building an app.

To make a PWA for use on phones.

What are your thoughts or any feature suggestions?

Built A Full React Clone of Hashnode's Home x HarperDB ! 🎉

Hey there, so in this blog, I'm gonna share how did I manage to submit this small project of mine which I was able to build in the last 7 days of the Hackathon through some ups downs in the way.

  Story Time... ✍

The Hashnode x HarperDB Hackathon started almost a month ago and as I use Hashnode almost every day so obviously I got to know about it. And started to wonder well what should I make.

Then after some days, I had to appear for my college's semester exams which just made me forget the hackathon due to all the things that were going on.

So, just before a week when I visit the Hashnode homepage I see the banner of the HarperDB hackathon and I just remembered that I had to build something for it and I totally forgot about it ! And now I was also doing some remote work at a place where I was interning.

And I remember thinking either I just have to skip this hackathon as my perfectionist side would not be satisfied with what I make in this small-time or I could just
build something and that would just help me hone some skills and also learn using HarperDB! 📌

I literally had no obvious idea on what to build so as I was on my Twitter profile I remember tweeting saying that I would be building a Clone of Hashnode's homepage in React.

And if you are wondering why I decided to build this it was because :

To solidify my Frontend Skills so that I can be just done with the chaotic CSS stuff and be confident in that so that I could now focus on the Backend stuff which is very interesting.

And Hashnode's home feed was the perfect thing to do as it was really responsive and had really good & complex components too.

I love its UI as a product and also because I don't think anyone had cloned it before.

So, here it is a fully Responsive, Static clone of our very friendly Hashnode's Home Feed ❣ :

Then the question was well - How would I use HarperDB in it? I thought okay, so what if instead of mapping the feed components from a dummy JSON data,
what if I could get those data from the Harper Database.

That was a good enough idea for me to get started as I also had to play around with HarperDB to learn how it works.

  Experience with HarperDB 🚀

I have seen a lot of awesome blogs that folks like have published on using HarperDB. But I thought let me just play around, read the docs and see what happens.

And to my surprise I was able to figure whatever I needed in a short amount of time as HarperDB:

Has beautiful documentation .

Has clean code examples for how basic functions of a Database work.

Has even short and simple video tutorials which are super helpful.

This is how the data looks like in my HarperDB instance, clean & cool 😎 👇 :

The HarperDB Team has really put some great work into building this Product. 🙌
And in my situation, it also shows how HarperDB helps if you want faster development.

  Building the Server 👨‍💻

Then I quickly spun up an Express Server with POST and GET endpoints to store these JSON files and retrieve them on my Client side.

If you are a code junkie here's how the **Blogs GETting **controller looks like :

import express from "express";
import axios from "axios";

export const getBlogsData = async (req, res) => {
    const app = express();
    try {
        var body = {
            operation: "search_by_hash",
            schema: "blogs",
            table: "data",
            hash_values: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6],
            get_attributes: ["*"],
        };

        var config = {
            method: "post",
            url: process.env.HARPERDB_URL,
            headers: {
                "Content-Type": "application/json",
                Authorization: process.env.AUTHORIZATION,
            },
            data: body,
        };
        const resData = await axios(config);
        res.send(resData.data);
    } catch (e) {
        console.log("Could not get data : " + e);
    }
};

At first, I used Postman to POST the JSON files to the HarperDB to be able to fetch them on the client-side.

  Deployment 👇

I have deployed the client-side on Vercel: https://hashnode-home-clone.vercel.app/

I have deployed the Node Server on Heroku: https://hashnode-harper.herokuapp.com/

Here's the Live App on the Internet: https://hashnode-home-clone.vercel.app/ 🎉

  Contribution ⚛

*I have laid the foundation but together we can make it big, you can contribute in : *

Making it more functional.

Adding animations.

Adding more Pages to make a wholesome HashNode Clone.

** I'll be waiting to Merge your awesome PRs.** 🎊

Here's the just Frontend Repository you can Fork, Code & Push Pull Requests to ! :

I have also made this video regarding this Hackathon where I could not stop but speak about my love for Hashnode and how awesome HarperDB is ! 😄👇

I'm really happy that I didn't just quit and built something. 🙏

As a Programmer or a Person in Tech what are your Thoughts ?

  How will it work ?

I am planning of building a place/product where imagine someone wants to learn a Tech he/she will get all the best resources available on the internet in one place. For example let's take Typescript. So if someone visits the site he will be shown a bunch of tech languages, frameworks and what not and now he selects Typescript.

And now the site shows him/her all the resources available to learn Typescript which actually the other users can Post. And the resources are categorized according to the platforms like- Youtube, Blogs, Online Course Platforms ( Coursera, Udemy, etc ), Social Platforms (Great Twitter, Instagram accounts to follow), Discord Servers and what not.

And all these lists of data will be sorted according to the user reviews or likes so that a programmer or newbie gets the best resources ever on the internet.

We can also send out weekly newsletters for the best resources for the tech to the category the users follow.

Obviously the first set of content will be curated by me, but to encourage quality submissions there will be a invite points for users calculated based upon the metrics of their post.

And as you can probably imagine it can be scalable to anything and awesome feature additions too.

  A Rough Vision

It will be the goto source for every valid resource to learn something currently present on the Internet. It will solve the age old question of How to and Where to learn which millions of developers ask when starting out their journey ?

I love Naval Ravikant and as he says Code and Content have been and will create wealth in future. And with this my vision is to lessen the friction needed to learn to code by connecting curiosity with the awesome Creators.

I would love to know your thoughts on this. Thanks for your time ! 🧡

Hi, there welcome to another blog! So while searching for jobs myself I have found some great sites that I think everyone should be aware of especially at these times. 🚀

I believe if someone has skills, why not build some great stuff and provide for the family, yourself be independent and make life a bit easier.

So here I will be sharing some Remote Job Posting Sites which you can use to find your first of many Remote Developer Jobs. Remote jobs become very crucial especially in such time so I hope it helps. I have used some of them and they have really great and legit jobs.

Let's get started ! 😀

Wait if you are a video person I have made this video for you too !

Relational vs Non-Relational Database | Simple Explanation 🚀

Hey there, welcome to another blog! So recently I got really interested in understanding the clear difference between a Relational/SQL and a Non-relational/NoSQL database so that I could explain it to anyone confidently. 🙋‍♂️

So, I read a bunch of blogs, worked on it and now I'm going to explain it in very simple words so that you can easily understand the difference between both and moreover I also show the pros and cons and which database should you use or learn. 📌

  Relational Database 👩🏼‍🤝‍🧑🏽 :

This type of database model organizes data into one or more tables which obviously consists of columns and rows. And each row is associated with a unique key. Here Rows are also called records or tuples and Columns are also called attributes.

Relational databases are also called SQL databases where "SQL" stands for Structured Query Language and it’s the language relational databases are written in. SQL is used to execute queries, retrieve data, and edit data by updating, deleting, or creating new records.

Example Languages: PostgreSQL, sqlite3, SQL , MySQL,

  Advantages:

So there is a set of properties called ACID which stands for - Atomity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability and this ensures reliable database transactions. And these RDBMS are really good at this.

It can handle lots of complex queries, database transactions, and routine analysis of data as the data in tables are very well connected/related with the help of unique keys.

  Disadvantages:

Fixed Schema: RDBMS(Relational Database Management System) was designed to store mainly static data thus being stored in tables so, that does not make the manipulation of schema or model very flexible as it is in a Non-relational DB. One can't store complex or very large images, numbers, designs, and multimedia products.

Scalability Issues: These are hard to scale as they need more servers to scale up and thus a lot of money. Imagine you have massive user growth, then a RDBMS is more difficult to scale as compared to a Non-relational database.

Now the Non-relational databases especially solve these two problems which makes them very adaptable so let me tell you about those.

  Non-Relational Database 🧍‍♂️ :

A non-relational database is any database that does not use the tabular schema of rows and columns like in relational databases. Instead, guess what- its storage model is optimized for the type of data it is storing. It is that flexible!

Non-relational databases are also known as NoSQL databases which stands for “Not Only SQL.” That brings me to a great point that you don't need to use just SQL to query the database instead you can use any language of your choice. Like Hashnode is going to do the moment I publish this article, probably using Javascript. Correct me if I'm wrong! 😄

Some types of NoSQL DBs :

Document Store :

Here documents are stored in the database with a unique key associated with each document. And you can query and manipulate the database just by sending an API request using any language and not just SQL as we discussed earlier.

One of the best examples is MongoDB which I also use and is the first database I learned to use. The best part about it that I love is that it stores the documents in
JSON-like format so it becomes really familiar in a short time.

MongoDB allows for auto-sharding which is a type of database partitioning that separates very large databases into smaller, faster, more easily managed parts called data shards. This is what helps it scale up fast and in a cost-friendly way without needing to add more servers.

Key-Value Store :

This stores data as a collection of key–value pairs, such that each key appears at most once in the collections. So this is kind of based on data structures like maps or dictionaries.

One of it great example is Redis - short for Remote Dictionary Server which is being extensively used now and I guess it is also Opensource.

Graph Database :

This database is mainly based on Graph data structure. This stores data in a graph-like model such that the data with similar characteristics or attributes can be interconnected or caught quickly which can be used to find insights various.

Facebook used MySQL which a Relational Database earlier but then it made a Graph database of it's own which helped them make these great connections between users.

The Main Question - What Database Should I Use ? :

Okay, so from what I have learned since these past days I will suggest that if you are a beginner trying to make projects on the web or a Startup and you can't afford to throw a lot of money on servers then a Non-Relational Database is best for you. And also it helps because in this scenario you are very flexible with the data you store so NoSQL helps.

If you are a beginner I would suggest going with MongoDB as it also offers a free tier for personal projects.

And if you need to store and retrieve data or perform heave read and write operations, a Relational or SQL database is best for you. And this is the reason why Data Scientists use SQL databases, as their data is static and does not need to vary as they just need the pre-built data to train Machine Learning models.

I am no expert I'm still learning each day so ya just research a lot and use whatever your work demands.

This table might help you a lot !

Aaand... this is the video version of the blog where I also explain the database with an example 📚:

I hope you learned something, Do comment and let me know your thoughts it means a lot !

I also create videos on Youtube at - Future Driven and also active on Twitter .

Let's Connect, Stay safe & Have a great day! 🧡🚀

Hi, there so recently I have been using a lot of great tools daily that have made my work really smooth and I thought well why not just share these tools, maybe it could make someone's life easier too.

So here are 12 awesome tools that I use daily as a developer :

  Code 🛠

  1. Visual Studio Code

I use VSCode as my editor like most people because I find it really versatile and dynamic and not just because of all the extensions it has but also the fact that in just one window I can open multiple code files and work on them seamlessly and moreover I can also multiply the number of Terminals which becomes really handy for me.

As on one terminal I can run my server and on the other I can run my React App. And I can also use Git on another if I want to push things. Now that brings me to the next tool.

  2. Git

So, this is really important, and no matter wherever you work or in which field, one should learn git and understand how it tracks our files. I use it to track my project files and push my files to Github.

You can use THIS link to download Git.

  3. GitHub

So, most beginners confuse Git and Github as the same or one company but that's not true. Git is an Opensource Version Control System that can be used by any company while Github is owned by Microsoft and is a Cloud hosting platform for your Git Repositories.
And not many know this but AWS also has the same service as Github call AWS Code Commit which also uses Git.

To clear this out I also made this video on it :

  Deployment 🚀

  4. Netlify

If you want to deploy your Frontends, this is the best thing ever. I always use to host my Frontends and the best part is you can deploy you projects from your Github and connect both so that whenever you push a commit, Netlify automatically detects the push and deploys the updated version.

This is called Continuous Deployment and I have made this video on it ! -

  5. Heroku

I use Heroku to deploy my backends or the server. It's very convenient to use and you can deploy your server very easily using its CLI.

  Blog ✒

  6. Hashnode

I have been ranting about it everywhere nowadays that I loved Hashnode the moment I landed on the product. It's the best blogging platform for developers hands down !

I say that because of its awesome features and not to mention the beautiful community built around it.

I write ✍ on Hashnode and also cross-post 📫 on Medium and Dev.to .

  Workflow 👨‍💻

  7. Trello

I recently discovered it and the Trello board is really helpful while working on group projects or doing a code sprint or even tracking your own progress and goals.

One can keep track of the progress very easily on the Trello boards and I guess I like it because it resembles a digital post-it.

  8. Figma

Okay, so if you are a designer you must obviously know about it. Anyways, so it is a place where designers make and post their designs, and I as a developer would see that and turn those designs into code.

I have been using it recently at work and this really helps maintain everyone's workflow.

  Communication 📣

  9. Slack

I use it to communicate with people at work as most people use it and it's very clean.

  10. Discord

Discord is where you can join awesome communities and chill with other developers, ask your doubts and see a lot of people helping you out from their experience and it's really great and has chill vibes.

So for work talks I recommend Slack and for hanging out with devs, I recommend Discord.

  Social 👨🏻‍🤝‍👨🏻

  11. Twitter

Twitter has the best tech community you could ever find and I learn a lot from the folks on my feed. So make sure you follow the right people.

You become what you consume nowadays.

  12. LinkedIn

Funny story - I joined LinkedIn to connect with folks working at SpaceX and Tesla. 😄

Anyways so here you can connect with other folks and create an awesome network who knows what that might lead to someday.

A very important thing, social media can be pretty addictive so I recommend not to just consume but also create stuff so that you can also contribute to the community and not just mindlessly scroll through the feed.

  Just Search it ! 🔍

  13. Stackoverflow

Here you will get the solutions to probably all the programming questions and errors you have as someone has already faced that else you can just ask them.

This is where I end up after a Google search every time. I even got banned from asking questions here because apparently, my question had no quality.

So, guess what did I do, I opened another account and now I ask a very elaborate question to not get it downvoted.

  14. Google

Everything that I mentioned here and most of the things I know is by googling.

I believe it is the single most important tool that one needs to use and it surprises me how many people don't use it.

  Just Google it !

Aaand..Here is the blog's video version ! :

There you go, these were some tools that I use as a developer.

Do let me know your thoughts it means a lot ! ❣

I also create videos on Youtube at - Future Driven and also active on Twitter .

Let's Connect, Stay safe & Have a great day! 🧡🚀
