      <title>Gen AI’s Path to Deeper Learning: A Socratic Approach to Staying Engaged</title>

&lt;p&gt;A few weeks back I ran into the paper &lt;strong&gt;“What Is the Impact of ChatGPT on Education? A Rapid Review of the Literature”&lt;/strong&gt; (&lt;a href="https://www.mdpi.com/2227-7102/13/4/410" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;MDPI, 2023&lt;/a&gt;). The authors echoed something through me and I begun to feel myself, lean too heavily on generative AI. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Procrastination&lt;/strong&gt;: &lt;em&gt;Higher than never before&lt;/em&gt;, why wrestle with hard problems when Gemini, ChatGPT, or Claude can spit out code?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Memory:&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;em&gt;Suffers&lt;/em&gt;, my mind never stores what it never generates. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Motivation:&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;em&gt;Fades&lt;/em&gt;, the joy I used to get from figuring things out was just… gone.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I’m a sucker for that dopamine hit of solving problems, so I decided to build a system that keeps the &lt;em&gt;struggle&lt;/em&gt; while still harnessing AI’s powerful reach: &lt;strong&gt;Socratic AI&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

  Why a Socratic Approach?

&lt;p&gt;Instead of a direct answer, a Socratic tutor nudges with questions, forcing you to articulate, predict, and correct. It’s slower, much slower, and that’s the point. Reflection rewires neurons; copy‑pasting doesn’t.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A small group (n = 3) reported that they solved &lt;strong&gt;more&lt;/strong&gt; practice problems on their own &lt;strong&gt;after&lt;/strong&gt; a Socratic session than after receiving a straight answer from an unguided LLM. Follow up checks a few hours later also showed better recall.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;
