On June 28th, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the AWS Community Day Colombia 2025 in Bogotá, this time not just as an attendee, but as a co-leader of the AWS User Group in Neiva. And let me tell you: the experience was nothing short of amazing. A day packed with knowledge, energy, a passionate tech community, and an unstoppable drive to share and learn.

This wasn’t just another tech event. It was a place where innovation was in the air. Every talk, every booth, every hallway conversation had something new to offer. If you're into cloud computing or simply want to understand how the tech ecosystem moves in Latin America, this is the kind of event that needs to be on your radar.

What is AWS Community Day?

If you haven’t heard about it before, AWS Community Day is an event organized by the community, for the community, with support from Amazon Web Services. It's not a sales pitch or a product fair, it's a space where real users share their experiences, lessons learned, challenges, and best practices using AWS.

This year’s event was held at the Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo Science and Technology Building at the National University in Bogotá, gathering more than 1,200 attendees including developers, solution architects, students, startups, tech leaders, and cloud-curious folks from across the country.

Highlights of the Event

🎤 Unmissable Talks & Virtual Sessions

One of my personal favorites was “Triple Your Professional Value with AWS and GenAI” by [Carlos Zambrano],(https://www.linkedin.com/in/carlos-zambrano-aws/), where he demonstrated how to create AI agents focused on specific topics to boost productivity and help solve your day-to-day questions.

The event featured dozens of talks happening simultaneously in the main auditorium and five themed rooms named as Colombian cities (Manizales, Medellín, Boyacá, Bogotá, Catleya), plus one room dedicated entirely to virtual sessions because of course, we didn’t want to leave out those who couldn’t attend in person.

🛠️ Tech in Action

The hands-on workshops were a hit. Attendees could put their cloud skills to the test in real-time. I even got to discover Builder Cards through a fun card tournament! I didn’t know they existed before, but now I have my own deck and I’m learning how to play, can’t wait to share more on that soon.

🤝 Community & Networking

One of the best parts of the day? Connecting with amazing people from AWS User Groups in [Medellín],(https://www.meetup.com/awsugmed/), [Bogotá],(https://www.meetup.com/es-ES/aws-colombia-bogota/), AWS Women, and Manizales. We exchanged LinkedIn contacts and ideas to keep building together.

I also got to meet Daniel Vargas, a Golden Jacket and yes, I saw the golden jacket in real life! A truly focused and inspiring individual. I was especially proud to be there not just as an attendee (like I was in 2024), but this year as a volunteer. That gave me a whole new perspective and helped me meet incredible community leaders and passionate tech folks. Seriously impressive people.

🎁 Extra Experiences

It wasn’t all about tech. There were fun moments too! Playing Builder Cards, grabbing lunch from food truck vouchers (amazing idea from the organizers!), enjoying great coffee, and at the end of the day a beautiful dance performance featuring traditional Colombian dances like Sanjuanero and Joropo.

Oh, and I even won a t-shirt with the Lambda logo for dancing, plus a Nequi thermo and a bunch of stickers. Worth it!

Serverless is not a buzzword — it’s a powerful, scalable approach when used wisely.
Generative AI is already production-ready — tools like Bedrock are available now.
Our local tech community is thriving — there’s serious talent building big things in Colombia.
Cloud cost optimization is essential — deploying is just the start; efficiency matters.
Sharing knowledge makes a difference — many speakers were from the community, not AWS staff, and that made it even more valuable.

My Personal Reflection

Attending AWS Community Day felt like hitting the reset button on my tech journey. It reconnected me with my passion for learning, building, and sharing. It inspired me to explore more technologies, stay active in the community — and even consider giving a talk next year 😅.

What I appreciated the most was the friendly, collaborative, no-ego atmosphere. Experienced professionals and beginners learning side by side — all supporting one another.

What’s Next?

I’m now diving into the resources shared during the event (yes, the sessions were recorded!) and I’ve joined several AWS User Groups to stay involved with upcoming meetups.

El pasado 28 de junio tuve la oportunidad de asistir (como co-líder del AWS Users Group de Neiva) al AWS Community Day Colombia 2025 en Bogotá, y la experiencia fue simplemente espectacular. Un evento lleno de conocimiento, buena energía, comunidad tech apasionada y muchas ganas de compartir.

No fue solo otro evento técnico. Fue un espacio donde se respiraba innovación. Donde cada charla, cada stand y cada conversación traía algo nuevo que aprender. Si te interesa el mundo cloud, o simplemente quieres entender cómo se mueve el ecosistema tecnológico en América Latina, este tipo de eventos deben ser prioridad en tu lista de cosas por hacer.

¿Qué es el AWS Community Day?

Por si no lo conoces, el AWS Community Day es un evento organizado por la comunidad y para la comunidad, con el respaldo de Amazon Web Services. No es un evento de ventas, ni de producto. Es un espacio donde usuarios reales comparten sus experiencias, aprendizajes, retos y mejores prácticas usando AWS.

Este año el evento se celebró en el edificio de Ciencia y Tecnología “Luis Carlos Sarmiento Ángulo” de la Universidad Nacional en Bogotá y reunió a más de 1.200 asistentes, incluyendo desarrolladores, arquitectos de soluciones, estudiantes, startups, líderes de tecnología y curiosos del mundo cloud.

Lo más destacado del evento

🎤 Charlas imperdibles y Charlas virtuales

Una de mis favoritas fue “Triplica tu valor profesional con AWS y GenAI ” por Carlos Zambrano, donde mostró cómo crear agentes de inteligencia artificial enfocados en un tema específico que resuelven tus dudas y aumentan tu productividad.

También sobresalieron las demás charlas que se presentaban en el auditorio y 5 salas que estaban nombradas como ciudades (Manizales, Medellín, Boyacá, Bogotá, Catleya) más una sala utilizada para las charlas virtuales, ya que obviamente no queríamos dejar por fuera a las personas que no podían estar presentes en el evento.

🛠️ Tecnología en acción

En los talleres prácticos los asistentes tuvieron la oportunidad de poner a prueba sus conocimientos con los workshops y aprender a usar Builder Cards en el torneo de cartas; personalmente no sabía que existían y las conocí en el evento, ya tengo un pack de ellas y estoy aprendiendo a jugar con ellas, ¡más adelante les contaré cómo me va!

🤝 Comunidad y networking

Conocí a varias personas de los AWS UG de Medellín, Bogotá, Women Colombia, y Manizales, nos conectamos a través de LinkedIn para seguir compartiendo. También tuve la oportunidad de conocer a Daniel Vargas, un Golden Jacket y ver la chaqueta dorada en persona: Definitivamente una persona con tanto enfoque es solo una fuente de motivación para alcanzar las metas que tienes. Estaba muy feliz porque soy colider del AWS UG de Neiva y fuí el año pasado al AWS CD 2024 como asistente. Este año estuve participando como voluntario y fue un plus tremendo, tuve la capacidad de conocer a los demás líderes y amantes de la comunidad tech, gente muy top en lo que hace.

🎁 Experiencias extra

No todo fue técnica. Hubo espacios donde pudimos jugar con las Builder Cards, algo espectacular que hicieron los organizadores del evento fue la entrega de vouchers para el almuerzo en unos carritos de comida rápida, fue una idea súper innovadora y que le gusto a bastantes asistentes, también tenían café a disposición de todos y estaba super rico, pensaron en todas las comodidades; tanto así que el cierre del evento fue con grupo de baile que dejó ver las raíces culturales de colombia con danzas como el sanjuanero y el joropo. (¡Me gané una camiseta con el logo de lambda por pararme a bailar, un termo de nequi y muchos stickers)

5 cosas que aprendí y me llevo del evento

Serverless no es solo una moda: hay arquitecturas bien pensadas que escalan sin complicarse con infraestructura.
La IA generativa ya está en producción: Bedrock está listo para usarse hoy mismo.
La comunidad local tiene mucho nivel: hay talento increíble en Colombia que está construyendo cosas grandes.
Optimizar costos en la nube es una habilidad clave: no se trata solo de desplegar, sino de hacerlo eficiente.
Compartir lo que sabes importa: muchos speakers eran gente de comunidad, no empleados de AWS, y eso le dio muchísimo valor.

Mi reflexión personal

Ir al AWS Community Day fue más que asistir a un evento: fue reconectar con mi pasión por aprender y compartir. Me motivó a seguir explorando nuevas tecnologías, a involucrarme más con la comunidad y hasta a pensar en dar una charla el próximo año 😅.

Lo que más valoro es el ambiente: amigable, colaborativo, sin pretensiones. Gente con experiencia compartiendo con quien está comenzando, y todos aprendiendo de todos.

Estoy revisando los recursos compartidos durante el evento (sí, ¡las charlas están grabadas!) y ya me uní a los AWS User Groups para seguir en contacto con lo que se viene.
