I needed a photo compressor, so I built one

Hey! I'm Sebastian, a developer from Poland. I've been working on a desktop photo compressor called SnapPress for about six months, and I'd like to get some feedback on it.

I started it because I needed a photo compressor myself. It also became a project where I could practise Python and learn how to build something people might actually use. The app is written in Python, with CustomTkinter for the interface and Pillow for image processing.

Using it is pretty straightforward: select your photos, adjust the quality slider, and click “Compress and save”. You can process multiple photos at once and see the file sizes before and after compression.

SnapPress currently supports JPEG, PNG, AVIF and WebP. There are also settings for the output folder, thumbnails and EXIF metadata, including an option to remove GPS information. It's free and open source under the MIT license. There's a Windows executable available, so you don't need to install Python to try it.

I've spent quite a while working on it, but that also makes it harder to notice things that might confuse someone opening it for the first time. That's mainly why I'm posting here. If you have a few photos and a couple of minutes, I'd appreciate you giving it a try. I'm especially interested in:

Was it clear how to select, compress and save your photos?

Were you happy with the file size and image quality?

Did anything freeze, fail, or behave differently from what you expected?

You can find the code, screenshots and download instructions here:
Link to GitHub

Feedback in the comments is welcome. If you find a bug, a GitHub issue with what happened and how to reproduce it would help me investigate it.

Thanks for taking a look!
