How to extract image text offline and keep it in Markdown notes

Use built-in Korean/English OCR, correct the result, and save the image and your explanation in a searchable local note.

Disclosure: I make CLIPARY at SelzyStudio. This guide uses our own synthetic sample content. Screenshots show the actual app; some use Korean UI labels. The app also offers an English interface.

Save the reason you captured it

A screenshot alone may be hard to understand a week later. An error message needs the action that triggered it. A learning reference needs a source and a takeaway. Keeping the image, recognized text and your own explanation together makes the capture more useful as a record.

 1. Open the image and choose built-in OCR

Capture a region with Ctrl+Shift+P or open an existing image. Choose Text recognition and select the built-in OCR option. It recognizes Korean and English on your PC. An external AI account is not required for this built-in recognition path. The sample screenshots show Korean UI labels; the app also has an English interface.

 2. Correct the recognized text

Check punctuation, code, numbers and line breaks against the source image. OCR can make mistakes, especially in tiny text or complex layouts. Edit the result before you paste it into another document. For an error message, preserve the exact wording and error code instead of replacing them with an unverified summary.

 3. Save the capture as a note

Open the note action from the image result, add a title and explain why the capture matters. You can include the OCR result when saving the note; it is placed in an OCR text section. A useful note might include “What I was doing”, “What happened”, and “What to try next”. Keep the original image so you can verify the extracted text later.

 4. Make the note easy to find again

Use folders, tags and topics to organize the local Markdown vault. Link a related note with [[note links]] and use vault search to find a phrase later. You can open notes side by side when comparing references. CLIPARY can also work with an Obsidian vault; choose the intended folder in Settings and consult the in-app help before reorganizing an existing vault.

Built-in OCR and optional AI are different paths

The optional AI organization feature uses a separately installed and signed-in Claude Code, Codex CLI or Gemini CLI. After confirmation, the selected image and instructions are sent to that provider; its account requirements, terms and costs may apply. AI organization currently returns Korean Markdown. Use built-in OCR when your task is simply to extract Korean/English text locally.

 Short visual guide

Watch the short step-by-step guide. It uses real app screenshots with English instructions; it is not a live screen recording.

 Try CLIPARY

CLIPARY is free for Windows 10/11 64-bit. Ordinary capture, stitching, editing, recording, built-in OCR and notes run on your PC. Optional external AI has separate requirements. Support is voluntary and does not unlock features.

How to trim a Windows screen recording and export MP4 or GIF

Record a task, remove the waiting, add visual instructions and choose an export format for your audience.

Disclosure: I make CLIPARY at SelzyStudio. This guide uses our own synthetic sample content. Screenshots show the actual app; some use Korean UI labels. The app also offers an English interface.

Choose a task with a clear beginning and end

A short instruction clip works well when it answers one question: where to find a setting, how to reproduce an issue, or which sequence of controls to use. Prepare a clean sample workspace so the recording contains only material you intend to share.

 1. Record a monitor, window or region

Open Record in CLIPARY and choose the capture target. A region recording includes a confirmation stage where you can adjust its bounds before starting. Ctrl+F12 starts or stops recording the default monitor; Ctrl+F11 uses the last recording region. Audio, frame rate and countdown options are available in Settings. Confirm the recording target and audio settings before you begin.

 2. Remove the unnecessary beginning and ending

Stop recording to open the video editor under the default workflow. Move the playhead to the point you want to edit. Ctrl+B splits a clip; Q and W trim before or after the playhead in the relevant selected clip. Check your selection before deleting. The timeline also supports linked video and audio editing, so changes can affect both tracks when they are linked.

 3. Add instructions where they are needed

Use Add effect for arrows, speech bubbles, emphasis, obscuring effects and numbered markers. Place each effect at the relevant time and adjust its duration. Check the preview to ensure an arrow points at the right control. A voiceover can explain a longer action, but short visual labels often work well for a clip viewed without sound.

 4. Choose MP4 or GIF

Use Export for MP4, or the adjacent export menu for GIF. MP4 offers resolution, quality and target-size controls; GIF offers width, frame-rate and looping settings. MP4 is usually a practical choice for video playback, while GIF can suit a short repeating illustration. GIF does not carry an audio track. Smaller dimensions and fewer frames generally reduce file size; review legibility before choosing a smaller output.

 5. Check the file you will send

Open the exported file in a separate viewer. Check the start and end, visible labels, obscured areas and audio if applicable. Export is a separate step from saving your editable project: retain the project if you expect to revise the guide later. Avoid recording private notifications or unrelated windows in the first place.

How to annotate Windows screenshots with arrows, numbers and mosaic

Capture a window, point to the problem, obscure details and paste a clear bug report or review image.

Disclosure: I make CLIPARY at SelzyStudio. This guide uses our own synthetic sample content. Screenshots show the actual app; some use Korean UI labels. The app also offers an English interface.

Start with a screen worth sharing

A screenshot is more useful when the recipient knows where to look. For a bug report, select the error and enough surrounding context to identify the affected window. For design feedback, capture the component you want to discuss. This walkthrough uses synthetic sample content, not customer data.

 1. Capture a region or window

Launch CLIPARY and press Ctrl+Shift+P. Drag to select a region, or click the highlighted window. Capture-to-clipboard is enabled by default. You can also drop an existing image into the app or paste one with Ctrl+V. The capture-after-action setting determines whether the editor opens automatically.

 2. Point, label and number the steps

Open the image in the editor. Use the arrow tool to point at the important location, text to describe the change, and numbered markers when order matters. A highlighter or spotlight can draw attention to a specific area. Keep labels short: “Click here”, “Expected value”, or “Step 2” usually communicates more clearly than a paragraph placed over the screenshot.

 3. Select what should be obscured

Choose the mosaic tool and drag over the area you want to obscure. This is a manual step: the app does not automatically decide which information is sensitive. Check names, addresses, account identifiers and the surrounding context before sharing. Inspect the saved output as well as the editor preview; mosaic should not be treated as a guarantee that all sensitive content is unrecoverable.

 4. Copy or save the edited result

Use Ctrl+Shift+C to copy the edited image and Ctrl+V to paste it into your document, messenger or issue report. Use Ctrl+S when you need a saved file. If the clipboard still contains your original capture, copy the finished result again after your edits. Shortcuts can be changed in Settings; F1 opens the in-app help.

 A useful reporting pattern

Use one screenshot for one problem. Put a numbered marker at the relevant control and explain the expected behavior in the accompanying message. If several overlapping captures are needed, arrange them in order and use the stitching feature first. You manually capture overlapping sections; CLIPARY does not automatically scroll the webpage for you.
