When October hits the calendar, it's not just the usual fall vibes—it's the season of code! 🍂 Embrace the digital frenzy, for in our realm, it's Hacktoberfest! 💻✨

So it's the month of hackers!😅 No, it does not mean that.

HacktoberFest is DigitalOcean’s annual event that encourages people to contribute to open source throughout October. Here we have the buzzword for this, "Hacktober", and this year, this movement is going to hit its 10th anniversary🎉.

Let me tell you what we do in Hacktoberfest.

We need to create a minimum of 4 successful Pull Requests (PRs) for any open-source project. Once the PR is successfully merged by the maintainer of the project/repo, it will appear on your Hacktoberfest account and go into the verification state. Once verification has been done and they find that it's your authentic PR and eligible to count in Hacktoberfest, they will eventually count it. When you complete 4 successful PRs / Contributions, you are now eligible for the reward 🎁.

Yes, you heard right! There is a reward by Hacktoberfest for all the participants who complete 4 contributions✨

In HacktoberFest2022 The reward is one of two options, you can either choose to let them plant a tree on your behalf🎄 Or you can request for a swags👕

Swags include T-shirts and some cool laptop stickers.

I chose to get swags and planted a tree by myself 😋

Here is my Hactoberfest2022 swags memory

For HacktoberFest2023 swag details, you can visit this site

But this year DigitalOcean decided to make a shift, now in its tenth year, is undergoing changes to ensure sustainability. It's shifting from physical t-shirt rewards to digital reward kit due to logistical challenges and customs issues. The kit, created in partnership with Holopin, includes customizable badges for pull/merge requests and special badges and gifts for winners, fostering the open-source community's spirit. Additionally, the first 50,000 participants completing their first PR/MR will have a tree purchased in their name

Don't worry if the above few lines are uncatchable for you or if you are an absolute beginner who doesn't know about Github, open-source contribution, or hacktoberfest, just be with me.

So moving forward after a little intro regarding Hacktoberfest, let's discuss the fundamentals on which this movement is based.

"The Open Source Contribution". Open source contribution is a concept of building software for the people, by the people, following a process of collaboration to create software that would be managed or maintained by an organization or a group of people.
Anyone can work on the base code of that particular software by following the defined guidelines by the community at any collaborative development platform like Github / Gitlab.

Want some examples of open-source software?

Linux, Mozilla Firefox, VSCode, VLC Player, and the list goes on.

Want to know more about open-source? Here is the complete details

So at this point, you are familiar with what Hacktoberfest is, as well as open-source contribution.

Now, the next question is, How can I participate in Hacktoberfest2023?

No worries, I am here to guide you with every step. Just be with me.

First of all, let's discuss what you need to be eligible to participate in Hacktoberfest2023.

So you need 💲1000 in your bank account to participate in Hacktoberfest2023—just joking

You need a few things:

✅ Familiarity with GitHub and its workflow
✅ Must know about Pull Requests, Forking Repo, Issues
✅ Must know about open-source software
✅ A will, to make this world a better place with the help of software.

If you are not aware of these, I advise you to go through them.

The internet is full of resources regarding this stuff. But just to maintain your flow, here I am going to briefly explain these terminologies:

GitHub: A platform where you can keep the base code of your software as a Repository and it lets you do collaborative development on your software.

Fork: Fork is a tool on GitHub through which you can make a copy of someone else's project/repo in your account and then work on it.

Issues: It's self-explanatory. Issues are also a feature of GitHub associated with your project. In this section, you can mention the issues your software has so that other people can come and pick up an issue and work on it. Also, other people can raise issues for your project.

Pull Request: It's a way through which you can ask the project owner, "Hey, I have done some work for your project, and now I want you to review my work and merge it into your codebase." For that purpose, you open a Pull Request.

Be a GitHub champ here

Now I am assuming that we have enough knowledge to move forward to our agenda, which is How to participate in Hacktoberfest 2023.

I am going to break things down into steps, assuming that you have a GitHub / Gitlab account. Let's dive into it.

HOW TO GET YOURSELF REGISTERED FOR HACKTOBERFEST2023🎯

Now you will be redirected to this page

Here you need to fill up the form. It's very self-explanatory and recommended, so just read and fill in. It's a quick job.

After filling out the form, hit "Register" and Hurray!🎉🎉

You have been registered for HacktoberFest 2023 and navigated to this page

Now just scroll down the page a bit, you will see the text as,

Progress: 0/4

This is where the game begins 🎰

This is your progress status in how many open source projects you have collaborated with and how many PRs of yours have been merged.

Our target is to hit it to a minimum of 4/4 🎯

Now it's time to learn how to make contributions. It's not rocket science; it's very easy to contribute to a project.

You just need to be familiar with how GitHub/GitLab works and what the standards of open-source contributions are.

I'm going to explain step by step, how you can make your first open source contribution.

HOW TO FIND OPEN-SOURCE PROJECTS TO CONTRIBUTE 🔍

1- To contribute to an open source project, first, you need to find out those open source projects that are ready to accept your PR or contribution. For this, you can visit these magic sites,

goodfirstissue

codetriage

2- You can select your preferred language, and it will display all the repositories that are having open issues to work on.

One more pro tip here: all the issues in any open-source project are mentioned in the issues section. You can go there and type "goodfirstissue," or you can do a global search on GitHub with this label, and you will get all the beginner-level issues that you can contribute to as a newbie.

So now you know how to find a project to contribute to, it's time to learn how to do this process of contribution.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE TO OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS ❓

Okay, let's assume you find a project to contribute. You find an open issue that you think you can fix.

1- You should open that issue and write a comment there, as shown here

2- Then the maintainer will assign that issue to you, and here you go.

3- You just need to hit the Fork button on the top right of the repo page, and then the project will be cloned to your profile.

4- Now you need to clone that project to your local machine by hitting this command in your terminal

git clone <https://github.com/username/project.git>

5- Checkout a branch regarding the feature/bug you are going to work on with this command,

git checkout -b my-first-contribution

6-Do your work, push the code to the branch, and then create a Pull Request for the repo.

7- The maintainer will look into your PR, he may ask for changes as well. It's called Change Requests

6- You then make changes in the same branch and push the code again. When the maintainer of the repo finds everything good, he will approve and merge your PR👏

Hurray!🎉🎉 Your first open-source contribution has been made.

Still confused about the contribution steps, no worries, below guides will help you more.

Guide - 01

Guide - 02

As simple as that. You can make any number of contributions you want in October, but not less than 4 to be eligible for the reward.

Lastly, there is always a question raised are we doing all of this just to get swags? No not at all, Open source contribution is driving our tech industry in a revolutionary way and it has its significant benefits, let me share with you some of them.

🚀Attended Google I/O Extended Karachi 2023 at IBA City Campus

A rich learning experience with industry insights. Valuable talks provided impactful advice for life's journey. Below mentioned are my key takeaways!

🚀 Talk: Moonshot Thinking by Raza Matin (Bransverse)

This talk revolved around the startup ecosystem, how startups work, their challenges, and solutions.

You don't need to be a perfectionist, as it's not a destination. You can continuously improve yourself day by day to achieve excellence.

Any organization will not rise higher without a stable foundation and a constructive culture within.

🚀 Talk: Challenges Entrepreneurs Are Facing in the Current Environment by Omer Adiden (TMT Ventures)

This talk revolved around the brutal facts regarding partnerships, startups, and fundraising, which every individual should know before taking the step.

Don't be overly concerned about your idea being stolen nowadays; it's not like the old times.

Nowadays, you need to have a stable product to get funded. Investors are not interested in funding just an idea that you want to build with their money.

🚀 Talk: Optimizing Core Web Vitals for Your SPAs by Mashhood Rastgar (Sastaticket.pk)

This talk revolved around how you can optimize your web apps to be blazingly fast, lightweight, and user-friendly with the techniques endorsed by Google as Core Web Vitals.

Understanding LCP, FID, and CLS for web apps.

Your assets take the most time to load if they are not well optimized.

You can use native mobile and desktop hardware APIs in your web apps to enhance your web experience.

🚀 Talk: How To Find Remote Jobs by Wajahat Karmi (Nebula)

This talk is in high demand and revolves around the misconceptions regarding the buzzword "Remote Job".

A remote job is more than just working from home; it's about effectively managing your life.

Cracking a remote job is challenging if you don't work on its fundamentals, but with your best effort, you can land your first job. The speaker himself applied for more than 1,000 jobs.

🚀 Talk: Building Your Side Projects Using A.I by Saad Pasta (Sadapay)

This talk revolves around how the AI-driven tech industry changes the ways to build something great with less effort.

Nowadays, you don't need to reinvent the wheel; just do research, and use the available tools effectively.

Don't need to discard your idea if it already exists; you can learn from the existing one, make some improvements in your stuff, and launch.

I feel thankful to Harris Solangi for leading this event and to his team who put a lot of effort into making it a success.

My Journey From a CodeNewBie To Earn $1k+ As a Developer

Hi Folks😇,
My name is Shahroz and today I am here to share what happens to me when I wrote my first line of code, the "hello world!"😎

It all starts in 2016, just after 1 year when my father past away😭, I was the only person in the house who is responsible to manage my home expenses, so I just started applying for jobs listed in the newspaper, let me tell you my situation at that time, I have a computer system P4, having 512MB of RAM and 40Gb of space with a CPU of 1.5 GHz, and we don't have an internet connection at our home, because we don't afford it then. I use my computer to play games, like Angry bird or IGI, or watch movies, and the most fun thing I do at that time was, reinstalling windows on my system almost every month when my system gets slow😆😆😆, I used to taught that the windows got corrupt, let's reinstall it😜.

I love to be around my computer system, just play with different features of it, changing wallpapers, themes, like this, It makes me feel happy🤗, Remember "This was my seed to grow as a computer science student and become a tree as a developer"

So, come to the story again, my father passed ways and I started finding a job, I know a little bit about what computer programming is but I don't know how it works, what is its use case, I know nothing very much about it. while applying for a job, I kept one thing in my mind, I need to learn any skill, without skills I cant earn a good amount of money.

Luckily one day, I came across a news that one institute in my town is announcing a 6-month course on iOS development, 🤓Honestly, I don't know about it🤔, that what it is but it sounds to me techy and the good thing was that they arrange a seminar for this course, So I decided to attend the seminar, I attend it and got clear that they will teach us how to develop apps for Apple ecosystem😎, and the person standing on the stage explaining about this course just bring me in the sky by telling that you can earn $10k a month after the completion of this course🤑🤑🤑, I Enrolled It💪!!! the cost was around $40 for the whole course because it was based by an NGO.

After joining the course, in the first few classes they teach us about SWIFT programming language, btw It was my first time learning how to code👨‍💻.

I cried many times, I can't be able to understand how it works from the first class😭.

I am just messed up in my mind that what's happening to me😞, this course is not right for me😔, programming is not the right choice for me☹️, I am not a tech guy😖, these kind of thoughts are revolving in my mind, and it's hurting me alot🙃 and one more bad thing happens to me is the teachers of mine announced just after few classes that you also will need a MacBook OR macintosh to do the professional level of development, I cant afford it, I leave the course, $40 wasted.☹️☹️☹️

It hits me hard, I lose my $40, my self-esteem, and the trust of my family too😭.

I took some break, and after that, tried to figure out what I did wrong🤔, why I failed????, The only way to become better is by finding my mistakes😟.

Some mistakes I found in my decision:

I chased money, due to which I just jump into it without analyzing myself, that do I actually want to become an iOS developer???😒

I don't know that concept of Roadmap.😞

I always compare myself to others in the efficiency of learning programming.😔

I learned from my mistakes and keep walking in my life😏, started some job, earn some money, upgrade my system, get an internet connection, start learning from youtube about everything I want to learn, Now I am a better person, and It was 2018.🤫

I heard the term freelancing, don't know about it as always but no worries, open google search it, learn about it. make accounts on different freelancing platforms to earn money but wait!!! 😵

Became a better person😎, but don't have any skills. No worries, open google starts searching for an in-demanding skill, got to know about "Web Development", like it..... but wait... cant afford to make the same mistake again, I am a better person now😎.

Starting searching about web development, talk with peoples on Facebook. doing as much research as I can🤔.

Finally decided..... I want to become a Web Developer. 👨‍💻

Started learning from Html, and honestly enjoying it🤩, then CSS then Javascript, Now programming does not seem so tough to me because I know that I can learn it, It just takes more time💪.

While I am in the process of learning web development, I came to know about WordPress, don't know much about it as always, ask google, seems good and easy to take a start👣. learn it from youtube, after learning it, go back to my freelancing account and start selling services of WordPress, seems hard in starting but becomes easy after some time. parallelly learning javascript, then jump to backend technologies and doing freelancing with it🙌.

Some time passes I cross the milestone of earning $1k+ as a freelancer💰💰💰, I am also a front and developer know, React.js is also included in my skill set😎.

Spending a Happy and satisfactory life now 🤗

I have cut down many things from the journey, just to not waste your time and to provide you a brief overview.😊

 Some More Lessons:

-make a habit of doing research about anything you want to know.
-connect with concerned peoples on social media, and ask them your questions.
-Take the first step.

If you want to learn more about web development just follow my Instagram by clicking this link :@the_webdevelopers
Or
Follow me on Facebook:Shahroz Ahmed

That's all from my side😇, I am waiting for your responses😍, you can ask me anything in the comments below as well as connect with me here.

Thank You👋

Happy Coding👨‍💻

What Is React.js ?🤓

Hi Developers,

What is React.js???

So this is the center point of my today's article.

I know that nowadays many of you are familiar with react.js, read it somewhere on the internet, or maybe one of your friend is a react guy or else.

So why I am writing this post then???

As my follower knows that I am learning React for the last 6 months which I tell you all in my last post.

So I am trying to share my takeaways while learning to react, maybe it helps my beginner developers friends to grasp the concept of react.js

So without further ado, lets jump right into it.

The most simple definition of react.js is:

React.js is a Javascript-based Library to build User Interfaces and invented and maintained by Facebook.

Now, let's take this definition and break it into pieces.

We got three words:

Library

Javascript-based

User Interfaces

Let's start understanding these three of them first:

 1. Library:

In programming, the library is said to be a code written by any other developer or group of developers to facilitate you while you're building anything, it's the same like the prebuilt functions or method we have in any programming language, Library does the same thing for us we just have to import the library and call its methods and functions we need, and it saves our lot of time by not letting us reinventing the wheel.

 2. Javascript Based:

Javascript based means that the react library is written in core javascript(ES5, ES6..), Javascript is the building block of it.

 3. User Interfaces:

it is the most important part of the definition, "USER INTERFACES"
for understanding it you need to keep one thing in mind, everything which is showing on the client-side is count in under the user interface. When I was new to web development I think the user interface languages for web development is just HTML and CSS, because HTML gives structure to the interface and CSS gives style and animation that's it, but When I move forward, I came to know that there is a guy who is responsible to make your user interfaces alive,Its Javascript, the user interface does not mean static colors or elements its also includes interactivity on the page and for the interactivity we use javascript, interactivity means not only making an element move from one place to another or hiding or appearing any element its also includes front end logics.

Now you have a brief explanation of all three words you see in the definition.

Let's reinvent the definition with our understanding.

A piece of code written by some developer or group of developers by using javascript language to make the interactivity on the user interface easy to develop, and the developers choose the name React.js to refer their that code.

So, you got that what react.js actually is.

Now I am 100% sure that the next question that comes into your mind is that "Why React.js In Invented, What's Wrong In The Existing Ways??"

I will surely answer this question in a very detailed manner in my next post.

Till then, tell me in the comments that are you excited for the next post??? and you can ask any question as well.

Hit Like 👍
Do Save 💾
Do Share 📤

Happy Coding!!!

Reactjs Learning Experience (v1.0)

Hello Developers !!! 🖥️
First of all sorry that I was not active for quite a few months and didn't write anything for you guys😔

There was a reason, I was so busy in learning React.js.🤓

 Whats React??

Basically, React.js is a javascript based library developed by Facebook for making user interfaces easier to manipulate and make them lightning fast using component-based architecture.

You can read the Official Docs too. 😇

So, let's begin with the topic of what I want to share🧐

Basically today I want to share one thing from my learning journey of React.js and I think If anyone ask me to give some tips to be a better developer, this will be my only tip which I am going to give you all in few minutes.😲

Let's start from Day 1: when I decided to learn React.js I was so worried about where to learn from?? Everyone's learning psychology is different so in short, I decided to learn from Udemy!😵

I took a course of React.js and start learning, the course was of 42 hours of video tutorials😵, and honestly, I am just able to complete 10 hrs of tutorials in 5 months.🤭

After 2.5 months of learning from the course I felt dishearted😞, I feel like I am in tutorial hell now😰.

It's not the first time for me that I was stuck in a tutorial hell so I know how to come out of it😎.

I quit the course for 1 month and start to build my own project, instead of thinking about that I am not ready, I don't know enough React.js I just jump into it and guess what ??? In first few days of building my own project it feels like It's so hard to think in react but just after few days It feels like Its fun, I enjoyed It. 😇

The project gives me a ground to apply whatever I have learned in that 2.5 months about React.js and when I got stuck I write my query on Facebook groups, StackOverflow, or googled It.✍️

And now I came back to the course again and I feel satisfied that I know What I have learned and what I am going to learn.👨‍🎓

So the Advice in short: Build your own project with the knowledge you have just took the start, google it apply it, and get results.

Note:
I will share the course link and my project links soon in coming post.😀

That's all for today, thanks for reading my post and don't forget to follow me and also you can ask me anything in comments below, I am open to reply.🙋🏻‍♂️

Happy Coding !!!👨🏻‍💻

Hey Folks,
I hope you all are fine and spending your time in learning new skills.

Today I want to share my experience of completing the first certification on freeCodeCamp, for my friends who don't know about freeCodeCamp, can visit this site: https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/about/.

In short, I tell you that freeCodeCamp is one of the lead tech organization which helps peoples to learn to code and offering 6 different certifications and the beauty of them is that they offer all the stuff free of cost (its a non-profit organization).

Are You Feeling Demotivated while Learning To Code?☹️

Hello folks,🤗

I hope you all are fine, taking the safety measures and doing something productive during this quarantine. 👍

As a programmer and a Computer science student, I also spend my time with my laptop and learning some new stuff, building projects and more.👨🏽‍💻

And while doing all this stuff, I came across "One Problem", which is obviously normal for anyone who is learning some kind of new stuff, maybe its programming, designing, or else...🧠

That is, "Feeling Demotivated" 😣😣😣

Have you ever came across a situation in feeling demotivated while learning the thing you were highly motivated ???🙄🙄

In my case, it's a big "YES", While learning to code. 👻

I started coding from the first day of the week with great enthusiasm and a mindset that this week I will achieve that milestones,💪

But, it was not like that, I feel demotivated just after 4-5 days, and just close my laptop put it inside the cupboard and feeling like a loser that I can't do it!!!🙎🏽‍♂️

Then, What I did???👀

Instead of feeling like a loser, I say to myself, Hey Shahroz, Its quarantine...Let's watch a couple of series on Netflix without thinking about your milestones and learning, just enjoy a quality of time with your family and help your mother in the kitchen!👩🏼‍🍳

And guess what???

Just after two days of taking this break from my learning routine, I genuinely feel hunger to start learning again and achieve those milestones with a fresh and clear mind...🤓🤓🤓

So what's the point ??

Whenever you feel demotivated after doing coding or anything else for a couple of days and feel like nothing happens, just jump out of it... and start doing things which give you happiness, and I assure you, after some hours or a day, you actually want to get back to your work.😇

That's All, 🙋‍♂️

Thanks a lot, Friends For Reading This Article,

Benefits Of Building Projects

Hello Folks 😊,

Today I just wanted to share my personal experience related to building projects.
About 1 month ago I started learning Javascript(ES6) and following the tutorials daily and it feels good that I learn something new every day 🤩.

The course I followed has some projects in it just after every 2 to 3 tutorials instructor built a project and advice us to follow it.

But I neglect that and think that oh dude these projects are so small and wastage of time🙄.

What my thinking was that, First I will learn all the concepts and features then I will build a huge project 😎.

But, I was wrong ...😓

After learning all the features when I sit down to built a project, I fell my self as an empty mind🤯.

Feel like I don't know anything... how to think in a sense of solving a problem and using all the advance syntax and their concepts I've learned so far 😤.

Then I realize I made a big mistake.😤

I learned everything but without their real-world implementations, that's why my thinking process was not developed.😯

Then I go back again watch the tutorials, build those projects and guess what??? I feel great and my thinking process was also developed related to problem-solving.🤓

I just wanted to give advice to all the beginner developers that please don't neglect the projects...build them and you will surely feel great...🤗

That's All Folks😊

Thank you.

Shahroz Signing Off.. Take Care.
