&lt;p&gt;Delivery partners working with &lt;strong&gt;Blinkit&lt;/strong&gt; depend on daily deliveries to earn their income. However, their earnings are highly affected by external disruptions such as heavy rain, pollution, or extreme weather conditions.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;During the &lt;strong&gt;DevTrails Guidewire Hackathon&lt;/strong&gt;, our team is developing &lt;strong&gt;GigShield&lt;/strong&gt;, a &lt;strong&gt;parametric insurance platform&lt;/strong&gt; designed specifically to protect &lt;strong&gt;Blinkit delivery partners&lt;/strong&gt; from income loss caused by such disruptions.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;GigShield automatically detects disruptions using real-time environmental data and provides &lt;strong&gt;instant payouts without manual claims&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;




&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The Problem&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Blinkit delivery partners rely on completing deliveries throughout the day. When severe weather conditions occur, deliveries slow down or stop completely.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Example scenario&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;A Blinkit delivery partner normally earns &lt;strong&gt;₹500 per day&lt;/strong&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Heavy rainfall occurs in the city&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Orders reduce and deliveries stop for several hours&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The delivery partner loses income for that day&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Currently, there is &lt;strong&gt;no automatic protection system&lt;/strong&gt; that compensates workers for this loss.&lt;/p&gt;




&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Our Solution – GigShield&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;GigShield is a &lt;strong&gt;parametric micro-insurance platform&lt;/strong&gt; built specifically for Blinkit delivery partners.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Instead of traditional insurance where workers must file claims manually, GigShield uses &lt;strong&gt;real-time weather data&lt;/strong&gt; to automatically trigger compensation when disruptions occur.&lt;/p&gt;

  How the system works
&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;1.A Blinkit delivery partner &lt;strong&gt;registers on the platform&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;
2.The system &lt;strong&gt;calculates a risk score&lt;/strong&gt; based on environmental factors&lt;br&gt;
3.The worker pays a &lt;strong&gt;small weekly premium (₹20–₹30)&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;
4.The system continuously monitors &lt;strong&gt;weather conditions&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;
5.If a disruption occurs, the &lt;strong&gt;claim is automatically triggered&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;
6.The worker receives an &lt;strong&gt;instant payout notification&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This approach is called &lt;strong&gt;parametric insurance&lt;/strong&gt;, where claims are triggered automatically when predefined conditions are met.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The worker registers through the &lt;strong&gt;mobile application or web interface&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;




&lt;p&gt;Step 2 – Risk Score Calculation&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The system evaluates environmental risks such as weather disruptions.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Example result:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Risk Score = 0.61 (Medium Risk)&lt;br&gt;
Weekly Premium = Rs.24&lt;/p&gt;




&lt;p&gt;Step 3 – Policy Activation&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Once the premium is paid, the worker activates the policy.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Example coverage:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Daily payout coverage =Rs.350&lt;/p&gt;




&lt;p&gt;Step 4 – Weather Monitoring&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The platform continuously checks weather data using a &lt;strong&gt;Weather API&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Example:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Rainfall detected = &lt;strong&gt;120 mm&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;
Threshold level = &lt;strong&gt;100 mm&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Since the rainfall exceeds the threshold, the &lt;strong&gt;claim trigger condition is satisfied&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;




&lt;p&gt;Step 5 – Automatic Claim Trigger&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The system automatically calculates the worker’s lost working hours.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Example:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Lost working time = 3 hours&lt;br&gt;
Hourly income = Rs.100&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Estimated payout = Rs.300 – ₹350&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The worker’s dashboard displays:&lt;/p&gt;
