This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 4: Ghost in the Machine

 What I Built

I built Echoes After Midnight, a local AI-powered horror story generator that transforms users' ideas into spooky stories.
Users can enter a story idea, select a setting, and choose a horror level, such as Mysterious, Medium, Terrifying, or Nightmare. The application then uses an AI language model to generate a horror story based on their selections.
I interpreted the Ghost in the Machine theme by creating an AI-powered storytelling experience where a local language model brings mysterious and frightening stories to life.

 Demo

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E3RNOYrm_-lQ4I5nNaDkIdpoS1bxWPHX/view?usp=sharing

 Code

https://github.com/ShimraNazar/EchoesAfterMidnight.git

 How I Built It

I developed the application using Python and Flask for the backend, with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend.
For AI-powered story generation, I used TinyLlama 1.1B, a lightweight language model running locally through Ollama.
The application sends the user's story idea, selected setting, and horror level to the Ollama API. The model processes the prompt and generates a horror story, which is then displayed on the website.
Technologies used:
Python
Flask
HTML
CSS
JavaScript
Ollama
TinyLlama 1.1B
Requests

 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation makes AI development more accessible to students and developers. By using open-source tools and models, I was able to experiment with AI integration and build an application without depending on paid AI APIs.
Using Ollama and TinyLlama also allowed me to explore local AI inference and understand how language models can be integrated into practical applications.
This project gave me an opportunity to learn how different open-source technologies can work together to create something useful and creative.

 The Spirit of It

Every horror story begins with an idea, but sometimes the most frightening part is what we cannot see.
With Echoes After Midnight, I wanted to create an experience where users can turn simple ideas into mysterious stories and explore the creative possibilities of AI.
Let the past whisper, and discover what waits after midnight.
