SOLAR QUEST: Overcharge — The Cyber-Arcade Touch-Grass Experience ⚡

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 1: Touch Grass

 What I Built

SOLAR QUEST: Overcharge is an ultra-high-energy, retro-cyberpunk arcade web application designed to gamify step-away-from-the-screen time and incentivize users to get outside and "harvest solar radiation" (touch grass).

Designed with the aesthetic of an over-animated 80s arcade cabinet merged with a sci-fi mech suit cockpit, SOLAR QUEST turns going outdoors into an immersive sci-fi mission:

Lockdown Overdrive Session Timer: Once an absorption sequence is initiated (15m Quick Charge, 30m Moderate Irradiation, 1hr Cosmic Overload), the UI enters a full hardware lockdown, encouraging you to step away from your screen while tracking your "photon intake."

Cyber-Flora X-900 Mutation: An interactive retro pixel plant that grows, evolves through 5 cybernetic stages, and blossoms based on your real-world outdoor time.

Photo-Data Decoder & Lore Generator: Return from sessions to select your sector (Urban Rooftop, Sun-Drenched Park, Cyber Forest), scan anomalies, and generate randomized sci-fi log entries and achievements.

Audio & Visual Immersion: Features Web Audio API retro sound synthesis, customizable CRT scanlines, flickering neon gauges, particle systems, and persistent local progression tracking.

 Demo

📁 GitHub Repository: github.com/shreyar-2006/solarQuest

(Run locally with
npm run dev
to experience the full interactive Web Audio and particle effects engine!)

 Code

github shreyar-2006/solarQuest

 How I Built It

Frontend Stack: React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Lucide Icons, and Framer Motion for high-octane UI animations and state transitions.

Particle & FX Engine: Custom HTML5 Canvas engine for golden solar rain, plasma flares, photon pixels, and dynamic CRT scanline filters.

Web Audio Synthesizer: Pure JavaScript Web Audio API synth generating real-time 8-bit sound effects, laser pulses, and deep reactor hums without relying on external media files.

AI Integration: Developed using open-weight AI code generation agents to rapidly build complex, high-performance UI state engines, interactive local storage state persistence, and procedural lore generation pipelines.

 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation and open-source AI models make it possible to rapidly build highly creative, localized, and privacy-first web applications. By utilizing open codebases and transparent AI tools, developers can build games like SOLAR QUEST that run completely on-device in LocalStorage without invasive tracking or proprietary API paywalls. Open innovation democratizes game development and empowers creators to build software that encourages healthier offline habits.
