Extensions Badging on the Microsoft Edge Add-Ons Store

Extensions have been contributing to making browsing on Microsoft Edge a delightful experience for users. The Microsoft Edge add-ons store catalog has grown to close to 11,000 add-ons and as we continue to grow, we want to evolve and be ready for scale. This means there is more hustle and competition for extensions discoverability in the marketplace. Thus, making sure we provide the best experience to both our users and developers becomes critical for us.

Towards that end, we intend to ensure users can trust the extensions they are downloading on edge and we as a marketplace, surface high-quality extensions to help them achieve this. We are planning to introduce extensions badging on EAS which will encourage developers to build extensions, keeping our best practices in mind. Leading to edge extension users getting the ease to differentiate and discover these quality extensions on EAS.

The Microsoft Edge Addons Store is starting its experiment with extension badges soon. And we want to iteratively build this alongside our dev community. Microsoft Edge is starting with a small-scale experiment and will begin to engage with the developer community to talk through the criterion and help them get acquainted with the badging process on EAS. Please look out for more details on the extensions badging experiment from Microsoft Edge!

What are our principles?

User-Centric

Objective evaluation criterion

Watch out for this space for more information on Badging extensions on Edge Add-ons Store. You may also refer to our documentation for further details.

PS: Badging in this case refers to visual labels, which will be shown on the extensions’ product description pages and other pages on the Edge Add-ons Store, once they are granted to a particular extension.

Hello, Edge Add-ons developers!

In May 2022, Microsoft announced the timelines for embracing Manifest Version 3 (MV3) for Microsoft Edge extensions and phasing out support for Manifest Version 2 (MV2).

As we move forward in this direction, the following change will come into effect starting 11th July 2022 –

All new extensions must use MV3 to be published to the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store.

You can continue updating your existing MV2 extensions that are already published on the Microsoft Edge Add-ons website.

This timeline is subject to change; for the latest updates, visit:

Overview and timelines for migrating to MV3

Microsoft Edge Add-ons roadmap

If you have any technical questions on your MV3 migration or the Microsoft Edge Add-ons ecosystem in general, you can reach out to us via our discussion forum on GitHub.

If you are facing any issues on Partner Center, or the Microsoft Edge Add-ons site; or you have any suggestions for us to improve the Microsoft Edge Add-ons ecosystem; you can submit those via our GitHub developer community.

Microsoft Edge Add-ons | NEW Feature to manage user reviews on your extension

Microsoft Partner Center now includes a Reviews feature. This update brings a crucial change to help manage your Microsoft Edge extension product page.

This feature enables you to view and engage with the user reviews. You can thank your extension’s users for positive feedback or respond appropriately to any comments.

Your response to a review appears under the respective review on the product detail page of your Microsoft Edge add-on.

Go to Partner Center to try the Reviews feature!

Share your feedback and questions about this new feature with the Microsoft Edge Add-ons Team in the comments below or on the GitHub community's Discussion topic.

What's new on Microsoft Partner Center for Edge Add-on Developers?

Hello Edge Add-on developers,

Microsoft is happy to announce updates to Partner Center based on your feedback. These changes streamline the process of submitting a Microsoft Edge extension for review at the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store.

 Microsoft Edge Add-ons Publish API:

The Microsoft Edge Add-ons Publish API is now in beta! With this addition, you can integrate APIs directly into your build pipeline and deploy packages and publish updated versions without visiting the Partner Center.

To learn more, you can check the below documentations:

Using the Microsoft Edge Add-ons API

Microsoft Edge Add-ons API Reference

 Microsoft Partner Center breadcrumbs:

The breadcrumbs feature has been added to the Microsoft Partner Center interface. Developers can now follow their exact path while navigating Partner Center.

This allows developers to:

Maintain awareness of their location within Microsoft Partner Center

Click on any breadcrumb to navigate back to the selected page

 Task Menu:

The Task Menu on Microsoft Partner Center has been revamped. The Overview section of the Microsoft Edge segment lists all your extensions which are either In the Store or In draft.

Clicking on an extension from this list takes you to the Extension overview page. This page includes task menu on the left showing all the sections of the selected extension – Package, Availability, Properties, Store listings, and Analytics.

This enables easy navigation between the extension package upload page and other pages. It also provides a transparent view of all the sections that developers need to complete when creating a new extension.

 Save & Continue / Publish:

The Save & Continue option has been added to the top-right corner of the extension submission workflow panel. This enables developers to add the necessary details then save and continue to the next step with one click.

The Publish button is blurred to indicate that the option is not yet available. Once you have completed all the details necessary to submit your add-on for review, the Publish option becomes active.

This change is also helpful when updating extensions, as you may directly publish your updates from any page.

 Extension overview:

The Extension overview panel remains the same and the status changes from grey to green next to each section that is updated.

Go to Partner Center and upload/update your extension package to try out the new changes!

Share your feedback and questions on the newly available updates with us in the comments below or through the Contact Microsoft Edge Extensions support documentation.
