Mercor is seeking software engineers to build tooling and workflows, which will be used to create complex training and evaluation data for large language models. As part of this, you’ll work closely with Mercor’s Operations and Applied AI Engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Building data pipelines used to train frontier AI models

Refining human expert-created datasets and transform them into signals used to evaluate models

Generating analyses of model failure points on real world, professional workflows based on evaluation results

You’re a strong fit if you have:

Previous founding or startup experience

Fluency in Python

Experience deploying LLMs or other models in production, including evaluation pipelines

Attention to detail and eagerness to learn

Role details:

Part-time, project-based work with an expected duration of 4 weeks, with the opportunity for extension based on mutual fit.

Expected engagement: 10–40 hours per week, depending on availability and project needs.

100% remote — work from anywhere.

Compensation & Legal:

Contractor role via Mercor.

Competitive hourly rate of $50–$90 USD, based on experience and domain relevance.

About the Role
We're looking for a motivated and driven Member of Program Staff to join our team and make a real impact on the development and evolution of our AI model. In this position, you will work with cross-functional teams to ensure high data integrity, driving data tracks, and reliability of the data powering Grok. Your expertise in data curation, annotation workflows, and AI/ML concepts will be instrumental in enhancing our model's capabilities across diverse domains such as science, technology, mathematics, humanities, and more.

Please note that this is a full-time role in-person in Palo Alto.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical and Strategic Expertise:

Help develop and support Grok's architecture and personality, ensuring alignment with the vision and strategic goals. This includes improving understanding and generation in specific domains like humor and recent events.

Research, implement, and evaluate techniques and strategies to enhance model capabilities, from data collection, annotation, generation, and integration of multi-modal features.

Guide Grok's improvement by working across areas like programming, science, technology, social sciences, recent events, and multimodal, making sure our models can handle a wide range of topics and tasks.

Ideate, design, manage, and execute plans for developing and modifying model behavior through data management, optimization, and analysis.

Project and Data Management:

Focus on maintaining high data integrity and truthfulness in our datasets. This includes validation processes to ensure data factuality and reliability.

Conduct thorough evaluations of our models and datasets to identify those that best align with project requirements, emphasizing quality over quantity. Ensure resources and timelines are managed effectively, quickly tackling any challenges or inefficiencies to improve model behavior and uphold data integrity.

Support the ideation of annotation workflows and the design of annotation tools and applications that prioritize data integrity, from labeling interfaces to web applications.

Communication and Collaboration:

Act as a liaison between the technical staff, engineering teams, and tutoring team, to ensure collaboration and effective knowledge sharing. This role is key in facilitating clear and open communication across all teams and aligning efforts towards common project goals.

Report project status, model insights from annotation, insights gained, and blockers encountered. These updates provide transparency and facilitate informed decision-making, ensuring cross-functional teams are well-informed and aligned with the project's direction.

We are looking for candidates with the following traits, skills, background, expertise:

Strong background in data curation or related fields, demonstrating hands-on experience with data quality, labeling processes, motivated about AI innovations, interested in high data-integrity.

Technical expertise, including familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts, tools, and practices, to directly contribute to the development and optimization of annotation tools and methodologies.

Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data sets, identify trends and anomalies, and provide insights that drive project improvements.

Proven ability to work independently, managing one's own tasks and responsibilities effectively while contributing to team goals.

Strong communication skills, capable of effectively articulating technical concepts and insights to both technical and non-technical team members.

Have experience with SQL, Python.

If you're just getting started in networking, subnetting might seem intimidating at first — but it's actually a powerful and essential concept that helps organize and secure networks.

🧠 What is Subnetting?

Subnetting is the process of dividing a large network into smaller, more manageable sub-networks called subnets.

Think of it like breaking one big room into several smaller rooms to control access, manage space, and reduce congestion.

📊 Why Use Subnetting?

✅ Efficient use of IP addresses
🔐 Improved network security
📉 Reduced network congestion
🔎 Easier network troubleshooting and management

📌 Basic Subnetting Example

You have a network: 192.168.1.0/24

This gives you 256 IP addresses (from 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.255).

Now let’s say you want to create 4 smaller subnets.

Using subnetting /26, you can create 4 subnets:

192.168.1.0 – 192.168.1.63
192.168.1.64 – 192.168.1.127
192.168.1.128 – 192.168.1.191
192.168.1.192 – 192.168.1.255

Each subnet has:

64 total addresses
62 usable host addresses (excluding network and broadcast)

I just completed a mini project where I configured a small office network using Cisco Packet Tracer and MikroTik RouterOS. 💻🛜

What I Did:
✅ Designed LAN topology for 10+ devices
✅ Configured DHCP, Static IP, NAT
✅ Enabled remote access via SSH
✅ Applied basic firewall rules
✅ Simulated real-time ping/troubleshooting

Instead of getting a nasty TypeError when a property doesn’t exist, optional chaining safely returns undefined.
