I built Xiryn — an open-source personal agent that gets its own Linux desktop

This year Muse, Grok Bot and Dots showed what a personal agent with its own computer can do. They're impressive — and they run on someone else's servers, with your conversations, your logins and, when they shop for you, your card.

I wanted the same thing on my own machine. So I built Xiryn and open-sourced it under MIT.

 Its own computer, not yours

Every agent gets its own Linux desktop in a Docker container: Xvfb draws the screen, a real Chromium runs on it, and x11vnc with noVNC lets you watch. The agent clicks and types there — it never moves your mouse, takes over your screen or reads your files. You keep coding, or watch a film, while it works.

When it reaches a login, a one-time code or a CAPTCHA, it stops and hands you its screen. Take over, fix it, hand it back with a note, and it carries on from where you left it.

 Private by design

No account, no telemetry. Chats, memory, settings and keys live in one SQLite file on your disk.

An encrypted vault for logins and cards: AES-256-GCM, with the key held by your OS (Keychain, DPAPI or the Secret Service).

The agent never sees your card. It gets "Visa ···· 4242"; Xiryn types the value into the page itself.

Every payment waits for your yes, in the app or with one tap on Telegram.

 Control it from anywhere

Pair Telegram by scanning a QR code. Xiryn long-polls from your machine, so there's no public URL or port forwarding. Your agents send live progress, approvals arrive as buttons, and a hand-off link opens the agent's desktop on your phone.

 Any model

OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, xAI, Groq, Mistral, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Ollama, LM Studio, or any OpenAI-compatible API — a model per agent. With a local model, not even your prompts leave your computer.

Set it up in one command

# macOS / Linux
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SouravBeraAkaSpeed/xiryn/main/setup.sh | bash

# Windows
irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SouravBeraAkaSpeed/xiryn/main/setup.ps1 | iex

It installs Git, Node.js and Docker if they're missing, builds the agents' desktop image and starts Xiryn at
http://127.0.0.1:6796
. Or paste one prompt into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor and let it do the setup.

 Try it

Website: xiryn.com

Source: github.com/SouravBeraAkaSpeed/xiryn

I'd love to hear what you'd hand to your own agent first.
