All participants completed the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, multidimensional scale of perceived social support (MSPSS), 15-item Thai geriatric depression scale (TGDS-15), 10-item perceived social scale and the Core Symptoms Index.  Postpartum depression is a well-known risk factor, and postpartum anxiety and parity are potential risk factors, for mother-infant bonding disorder. However, few studies have focused on the relationships among these factors and mother-infant bonding. This cross-sectional study explored the associations between depression, anxiety and parity, and mother-infant bonding. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Japanese mothers, both primiparas and multiparas, completed the Mother-to-Infant Bonding Scale (MIBS) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) one month after childbirth. We performed a stepwise multiple regression analysis with the forward selection method to assess the effects of HADS anxiety and depression scores and parity as independent variables on mother-infant bonding as the dependent variable. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A total of 2379 Japanese mothers (1116 primiparas and 1263 multiparas) took part in the study. MIBS score (2.89 ± 2.68 vs 1.60 ± 2.11; &lt;br&gt;

However, such knowledge is mostly based on retrospective and cross-sectional studies in adults with BD. The first objective of this selective review is to characterize the short-term effects of CT in the development of BD by focusing on studies in young people. The second objective is to describe the longer-term consequences of CT by considering studies with adult participants. This review first outlines the most prominent hypotheses linking CT exposure and the onset of BD. Then, it summarizes the psychological and biological risk factors implicated in the development of BD, followed by a discussion of original studies that investigated the role of CT in young people with early-onset BD, youths at increased risk of developing BD, or young people with BD with a focus on subclinical and clinical outcome measures. The review considers additional biological and psychological factors associated with a negative impact of CT on the long-term course of BD in later adulthood. Finally, we discuss how the integration of information of CT can improve ongoing early identification of BD and mitigate severe clinical expression in later adulthood. &lt;br&gt;

      <description>&lt;p&gt;Assisted partner notification (APN) for HIV was introduced in refugee settlements in West Nile Uganda in 2018 to facilitate testing of sexual partners. While APN is an effective strategy recommended by the World Health Organization, its safety has not been evaluated in a refugee settlement context in which participants have high prior exposure to interpersonal violence. The extent to which interpersonal violence influences APN utilization and the frequency with which post-APN interpersonal violence occurs remains unknown. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;To explore the relationship between APN and interpersonal violence, a cross-sectional mixed-methods study was conducted at 11 health centers in refugee settlements in West Nile Uganda. Routinely collected index client and sexual partner data were extracted from APN registers and semi-structured interviews were conducted with health workers. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Through APN, 1126 partners of 882 distinct index clients were identified. For 8% (75/958) of partners, index clients reported a history of intimatePN for this vulnerable population. &lt;br&gt;
Incidents of interpersonal violence have been reported following HIV-disclosure and fear of interpersonal violence strongly influences APN participation. Addressing HIV perception and stigma may contribute to APN uptake and program safety. Prospective research on interpersonal violence involving index clients and sexual partners in refugee settlements is needed to facilitate safe engagement in APN for this vulnerable population. &lt;br&gt;
 Poor personal hygiene increases disease risk, however, the prevalence of hygiene practices among adolescents is poorly described in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We aimed to assess the hygiene practices among young adolescents in LMICs using data from the Global School-based Student Health Surveys (GSHS). &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This population-based study analysed the GSHS data for adolescents aged 12-15 years from 75 LMICs. Data were collected between 2003 and 2015 using standardised, anonymous, self-reported questionnaires. This report focuses on hygiene related behaviours such as tooth brushing, washing hands after using the toilet, washing hands before eating and washing hands with soap. The weighted prevalence and 95% confidential intervals (CIs) for the hygiene practices, and overall and regional estimates were calculated with random-effects meta-analysis. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A total of 181 848 young adolescents from 75 LIMCs with available hygiene data were analysed. The overall prevalence for never washing hands were 7.4% (95several LMICs. These findings emphases the need for hygiene and health education targeting young adolescents in LMICs. &lt;br&gt;
 For people living with HIV (PLWH), the burden of travelling to a clinic outside of one's home community in order to reduce the level of stigma experienced, may impact adherence to treatment and accelerate disease progression. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This study is set in the Agincourt Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) in South Africa. Probabilistic and interactive methods were used to individually link HDSS data with medical records. A regression analysis was used to assess whether travel distance was correlated with the condition for which individuals were seeking care (primarily HIV, diabetes or hypertension). For PLWH, a Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to test for an association between the distance travelled to the clinic and late attendance at follow-up visits. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The adjusted relative risk (RR) of travelling to a clinic more than 5 km from that nearest to their home for HIV patients compared to those being treated for other conditions was 2.78 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.23-3.48). The adjusted Cox regression model showed no evidence for an association between the distance travelled to a clinic and the rate of late visits. (RR = 1.00, 95% CI = 0.99-1.00). &lt;/p&gt;

 Geographical inequalities in access to health care have only recently become a global health issue. Little evidence is available about their determinants. This study investigates the associations of service density and service proximity with health care utilisation in Indonesia and the parts they may play in geographic inequalities in health care use. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Using data from a nationally representative survey (N = 649 625), we conducted a cross-sectional study and employed multilevel logistic regression to assess whether supply-side factors relating to service density and service proximity affect the variability of outpatient and inpatient care utilisation across 497 Indonesian districts. We used median odds ratios (MORs) to estimate the extent of geographical inequalities. Changes in the MOR values indicated the role played by the supply-side factors in the inequalities. &lt;/p&gt;

Exploiting the electrostatic behavior of tubulin and microtubules within functional microfluidic and optoelectronic devices is limited due to the lack of understanding of tubulin behavior as a function of solvent composition. This work displays the tunability of tubulin surface charge using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) for the first time. Increasing the DMSO volume fractions leads to the lowering of tubulin's negative surface charge, eventually causing it to become positive in solutions &amp;gt;80% DMSO. As determined by electrophoretic mobility measurements, this change in surface charge is directionally reversible, i.e., permitting control between -1.5 and + 0.2 cm2 (V s)-1 . When usually negative microtubules are exposed to these conditions, the positively charged tubulin forms tubulin sheets and aggregates, as revealed by an electrophoretic transport assay. Fluorescence-based experiments also indicate that tubulin sheets and aggregates colocalize with negatively charged g-C3 N4 sheets while microtubules do not, further verifying the presence of a positive surface charge. This study illustrates that tubulin and its polymers, in addition to being mechanically robust, are also electrically tunable. &lt;br&gt;

However, there is limited information regarding the correlation of its phytoconstituents with the bioactivity. Optimisation of solvent extraction is vital for maximising retention of bioactive molecules. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This study investigated the metabolite variations in A. elliptica leaves and the correlation with antioxidant activities. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Total phenolic content (TPC), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and nitric oxide (NO) radicals scavenging assays were performed on A. elliptica leaves extracted with four different ethanol ratios (0%, 50%, 70% and absolute ethanol). The correlation of metabolites with antioxidant activities was evaluated using a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based metabolomics approach. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The results showed that the 50% and 70% ethanolic extracts retained the highest TPC, and the 70% ethanolic extract was the most active, exhibiting half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC &lt;br&gt;
 ) values of 10.18 ± 0.83 and 43.05 ± 1.69 μg/mL, respectively, in both radical scavenging assays. A total of 46 metabolites were tentatively identified, including flavonoids, benzoquinones, triterpenes and phenolic derivatives. A total of 51 participants of different national origins rated the beauty of both sets of stimuli, indicating the certainty of their rating; they then re-rated them after being exposed to the opinions of others on their aesthetic status. Of these 51 participants, 42 who met our criteria were selected to complete the experiment. Here, we show the relevance between the ectopic expression of delta-like non-canonical Notch ligand 1 (Dlk1) and the impaired quiescent state in CalcR-conditional knockout (cKO) MuSCs. Dlk1 expression was rarely detected in both quiescent and proliferating MuSCs in control mice, whereas Dlk1 expression was remarkably increased in CalcR-cKO MuSCs at both the mRNA and protein levels. It is noteworthy that all Ki67+ non-quiescent CalcR-cKO MuSCs express Dlk1, and non-quiescent CalcR-cKO MuSCs are enriched in the Dlk1+ fraction by cell sorting. Using mutant mice, we demonstrated that PKA-activation or Yap1-depletion suppressed Dlk1 expression in CalcR-cKO MuSCs, which suggests that the CalcR-PKA-Yap1 axis inhibits the expression of Dlk1 in quiescent MuSCs. Moreover, the loss of Dlk1 rescued the quiescent state in CalcR-cKO MuSCs, which indicates that the ectopic expression of Dlk1 disturbs quiescence in CalcR-cKO.       <description>&lt;p&gt;Interspecific competition reduces resource availability and can affect evolution. We quantified multivariate selection in the presence and absence of strong interspecific competition using a greenhouse experiment with 35 natural accessions of Arabidopsis thaliana. We assessed selection on nine traits representing plant phenology, growth, and architecture, as well as their plasticities. Competition reduced biomass and fitness by over 98%, and plastic responses to competition varied by genotype (significant G × E) for all traits except specific leaf area (SLA). Competitive treatments altered selection on flowering phenology and plant architecture, with significant selection on all phenology traits and most architecture traits under competition-present conditions but little indication that selection occurred in the absence of competitors. Plasticity affected fitness only in competition-present conditions, where plasticity in flowering time and early internode lengths was adaptive. The competitive environment caused changes in the trait correlation structure and surprisingly reduced phenotypic integration, which helped explain some of the observed selection patterns. Despite this overall shift in the trait correlation matrix, genotypes with delayed flowering had lower SLA (thicker, tougher leaves) regardless of the competitive environment, a pattern we have not seen previously reported in the literature. Overall, our study highlights multiple ways in which interspecific competition can alter selective regimes, contributing to our understanding of variability in selection processes over space and time.Peripheral nerve transection is associated with permanent functional deficit even after advanced microsurgical repair. This work presents a templating method that uses 2D transition metal dichalcogenides as initiators to be converted into the corresponding ternary chalcogenide upon addition of copper, via a solution-phase synthesis, conducted in high boiling point solvents. The process starts with preparation of VSe2 nanosheets, which are next converted into Cu3VSe4 sulvanite nanosheets (NSs) which retain the 2D geometry while presenting an X-ray diffraction pattern identical with the one for the bulk Cu3VSe4. The estimated charge transfer resistance value of 300 Ω cm2 obtained from the Nyquist plot provides an insight into the rate of charge transfer on the electrode/electrolyte interface.Previous studies on aesthetic chills (i.e., psychogenic shivers) demonstrate their positive effects on stress, pleasure, and social cognition. We tested whether we could artificially enhance this emotion and its downstream effects by intervening on its somatic markers using wearable technology. We built a device generating cold and vibrotactile sensations down the spine of subjects in temporal conjunction with a chill-eliciting audiovisual stimulus, enhancing the somatosensation of cold underlying aesthetic chills. Results suggest that participants wearing the device experienced significantly more chills, and chills of greater intensity. Further, these subjects reported sharing the feelings expressed in the stimulus to a greater degree, and felt more pleasure during the experience. These preliminary results demonstrate that emotion prosthetics and somatosensory interfaces offer new possibilities of modulating human emotions from the bottom-up (body to mind). Future challenges will include testing the device on a larger sample and diversifying the type of stimuli to account for negatively valenced chills and intercultural differences. Interoceptive technologies offer a new paradigm for affective neuroscience, allowing controlled intervention on conscious feelings and their downstream effects on higher-order cognition.The current framework of radiological protection of occupational exposed medical workers reduced the eye-lens equivalent dose limit from 150 to 20 mSv per year requiring an accurate dosimetric evaluation and an increase understanding of radiation induced effects on Lens cells considering the typical scenario of occupational exposed medical operators.       <description>&lt;p&gt;Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a chronic, occlusive cerebrovascular disease with unknown etiology, which is characterized by progressive steno-occlusive changes at the terminal portion of the internal carotid artery and an abnormal vascular network formation at the base of the brain. MMD has an intrinsic temporal nature to attempt a gradual conversion of the vascular supply for the brain from intracranial/internal carotid (IC) system to extracranial/external carotid (EC) system, so called 'IC-EC conversion'. Compatible cerebrovascular angio-architecture could be found in association with a variety of conditions such as neuro-fibromatosis type-1, Down's syndrome and cranial irradiation, which is called as moyamoya syndrome, akin/quasi MMD, or secondary MMD. Diagnosis of moyamoya vasculopathy, either idiopathic or secondary, is clinically important because flow-augmentation bypass is markedly beneficial for this entity to prevent cerebral ischemic attack by improving cerebral blood flow. Moreover, recent evidence indicated that flow-augmentation bypass could prevent re-bleeding in hemorrhagic MMD patients. Based on these backgrounds, there is a worldwide increase in the number of MMD patients undergoing bypass surgery. We sought to demonstrate our standard surgical procedure of superficial temporal artery-middle cerebral artery bypass with indirect pial synangiosis for MMD and its technical pitfall. We also discuss the intrinsic peri-operative hemodynamics of MMD after bypass surgery, including local cerebral hyperperfusion and characteristic hemodynamic ischemia caused by watershed shift phenomenon. The aim of this review article is to understand the basic pathology of MMD, which is essential for complication avoidance while conducting flow-augmentation bypass for MMD.Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most common form of childhood muscular dystrophy resulting in progressive muscle wasting and weakness. With advancements in respiratory care and the use of glucocorticoids, cardiomyopathy has surpassed respiratory compromise as the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in this patient population. It is generally believed that IFN-Is repress tumor development via restricting tumor proliferation and inducing antitumor immune responses. selleck However, recent emerging evidence suggests that IFN-Is play a dual role in antitumor immunity. That is, in the early stage of tumorigenesis, IFN-Is promote the antitumor immune response by enhancing antigen presentation in antigen-presenting cells and activating CD8+ T cells. The advent of cutting-edge genome editing technology, especially clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-based tools, has greatly expedited many biomedical research areas, including cancer immunology and immunotherapy.  Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is a first-line therapy for sleep-related breathing disorders and chronic respiratory insufficiency. Evidence about predictors that may impact long-term NIV outcomes, however, is scarce. The aim of this study is to determine demographic, clinical, and technology-related predictors of long-term NIV outcomes. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A 10-year multicentred retrospective review of children started on long-term continuous or bilevel positive airway pressure (CPAP or BPAP) in Alberta. Demographic, technology-related, and longitudinal clinical data were collected. Long-term outcomes examined included ongoing NIV use, discontinuation due to improvement in underlying conditions, switch to invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) or death, patient/family therapy declination, transfer of services, and hospital admissions. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A total of 622 children were included. Both younger age and CPAP use predicted higher likelihood for NIV discontinuation due to improvement in underlying conditions (p &amp;lt; .05 and p &amp;lt; .01)ectations with families. The results showed good statistical adherence, especially the Rosin-Rammler equation, in situations where it is the best descriptor of particle size distribution.We investigated the changes in the physical structure of cellulose recovered from soybean and rice hulls treated with the ionic liquids 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([bmim][Cl]) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([bmim][Ac]). The characterization was carried out by a combination of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Regenerated cellulose from soybean hull showed loss of crystallinity and high structural disruption caused by both ionic liquid treatments as compared to the untreated material. In contrast, rice hull presented only a small structural disruption when treated with [bmim][Ac] and was practically unaffected by [bmim][Cl], showing that this biomass residue is recalcitrance towards physico-chemical treatments, possibly as a consequence of its high composition content in silica. These results suggest the use of soybean hull as a substrate to be treated with ionic liquids in the preparation of lignocellulosic hydrolysates to be used in second-generation ethanol production, whereas other methods should be considered to treat rice hull biomass.The aim of this work was to investigate the phenolic content and antioxidant capacity of infusions of commercial herb samples (fennel, anise, peppermint, lemon grass and lemon balm) popularly consumed in Brazil. The infusion preparation for phenolic extraction was optimized using multivariate planning. Spectrophotometric methods were used to determine in vitro antioxidant activity and total phenolic and flavonoid content. Peppermint infusions had higher phenolic content and antioxidant potential. It was developed and validated a method by HPLC-DAD for the determination of caffeine, phenolic acids and flavonoids and applied for the analysis of the composition of the infusions. Higher concentrations were obtained for chlorogenic and p-coumaric phenolic acids and for flavonoids rutin and catechin. Principal Components Analysis and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis were applied for the comparative evaluation of the phenolic composition of the infusions. The multivariate analyzes indicate that the phenolic profile for the samples of the same species tend to present greater similarities in relation to other herbs and one of the analyzed samples, commercialized as anise, does not belong to the P. anisum species.Taste and odor compounds affect drinking water safety perception and may drive consumers to less secure water sources. Adsorption, using powered activated carbon, is the most common method to remove these compounds but greatly increases the amount of sludge generated. Another way of removing taste and odor compounds is to use filters with granular activated carbon (GAC) but little is still known on how to design them. In this work, the homogeneous surface diffusion model (HSDM) was used to model bench-scale kinetic and isotherm experiments and to simulate the removal of geosmin in a full-scale GAC filter. Geosmin adsorption isotherm was best described by the Freundlich model in all used carbons and film resistance (Kf) was more relevant to adsorption kinetics than pore diffusion (Ds). The simulation showed that in a filter with an empty bed contact time of 5 minutes and raw water with geosmin concentrations of 50, 75, and 100 ng.L-1, the effluent would exceed the trash-hold concentration (10 ng.L-1) in 98, 77, and 66 days, respectively, without considering biological removal.Activated biochars were prepared from residues of medium density fiberboard (MDF) produced by the furniture industry. Biomass residue was pre-treated with FeCl3 in two different FeCl3biomass ratios (0.51 and 11, w/w) aiming to produce a matrix embedded with iron oxide. The pyrolysis process produced maghemite on the biochar surface and its magnetic properties were confirmed by its attraction to a hand magnet and its magnetic susceptibility. Samples were also characterized using scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), surface area by BET-N2, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, and cation exchange capacity (CEC). Magnetic biochar exhibited up to twelve-fold higher surface area than the non-magnetic biochar, which varies according the maghemite particles content. Iron oxide on biochar surface also contributed for increasing CEC around ten-fold compared to non-magnetic biochars. Phosphorus adsorption isotherms showed that these magnetic biochars have high capacity to sorb oxyanions like phosphate, especially at lower pH. Thus, these magnetic biochars could be used to clean water bodies contaminated with oxyanions in acidic conditions.Plant responses to nitrogen supply are dependent on auxin signaling, but much still remains to be elucidated regarding N deficiency in tomato. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate how low auxin sensitivity regulates the responses of tomato plants to N deficiency. For this purpose, we used the tomato diageotropica mutant, with low auxin sensitivity, and a near isogenic line cv. Micro-Tom grown in nutrient solutions under absence and presence of nitrogen. Plant height, stem diameter, root and shoot dry mass, area and root density, number of lateral roots, leaf area, chlorophylls and carotenoids content, nitrogen accumulation and nitrogen use efficiency were evaluated. We observed a clear interaction between the tomato genotype and nitrogen. When the plants were grown with nitrogen, 'Micro-Tom' showed higher growth than the diageotropica mutant. Under nitrogen deficiency condition, the mutant showed improved growth, nitrogen use efficiency and higher contents of pigments.
