  What Homeowners Usually Ask For

&lt;p&gt;Most requests are the same: a 240-volt circuit and a Level 2 charger mounted in the garage or driveway. How simple that is depends on the panel already in the house.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Homes with room to spare can just add a charger, no big deal. Older homes running close to their limit usually need a panel upgrade first.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;An electrician checks all of that before touching anything. Skip the check and it's a fire risk, not a shortcut.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;EV chargers pull a lot of power, so most towns and cities require a permit for the install. The finished work also needs a final inspection through the Electrical Safety Authority. That's not just a formality either. Skip it, and it can come back to bite a homeowner later when they try to sell or file an insurance claim.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A contractor who's done this before handles the paperwork as part of the job. No extra calls, no chasing down forms after the fact.&lt;/p&gt;

  Picking Hardware That Fits

&lt;p&gt;Charger options run from basic plug-in units to smart chargers with app control and scheduling. Prices vary a lot too, and the fanciest option isn't always the right one. A few things worth thinking through first:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;How often the car actually needs a full overnight charge&lt;br&gt;
Whether off-peak electricity rates are worth scheduling around&lt;br&gt;
Whether a second EV might join the household eventually&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A basic charger does the job fine for most households. The smart features are nice, but they're not required to charge a car safely overnight.&lt;/p&gt;

  How Long the Whole Thing Takes
&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Most installs wrap up in a day, sometimes less. That changes if the panel needs upgrading first, since that adds its own inspection and a bit more waiting around.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Weather can push things back too. Digging a trench for underground wiring isn't much fun in January, so a lot of homeowners try to time the work for spring or fall if they can.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A charger doesn't need much once it's in. Somebody charging every single day should still get it looked at once in a while, just so nothing sneaks up later.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Plug in at night, unplug in the morning. That's really it for most people.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Winter slows the whole thing down a bit, but nobody really notices unless they're watching the clock. Once it's set up right, home charging just fades into the background of everyday life.&lt;/p&gt;
