When developing data aggregation platforms for the food and hospitality sector, tracking menu inflation, regional pricing disparities, and meal combo structuring across Canadian dining franchises presents several unique technical hurdles.

In this case study, we share insights from engineering the independent consumer directory for St-Hubert across Eastern Canada (Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick), available live at St-Hubert Menu & Prices Canada.

The Problem: Pricing Discrepancies in Canadian Casual Dining

Founded in Montreal in 1951, St-Hubert is one of Canada's most celebrated restaurant chains. However, consumer price transparency can be complicated due to three distinct dining formats:

Traditional Dining Rooms: Full sit-down service with complete beverage programs, dessert carts, and seasonal promotions.

Express Rotisserie Counters: Fast-casual ordering tailored for quick lunch pickups and suburban drive-throughs.

Catering & Family Feasts: Bulk bundles optimized for family gatherings, workplace catering, and sports events.

To solve this for diners, we established a structured database tracking the complete st hubert menu with real-time price comparisons across rotisserie chicken dinners, barbecue ribs, and traditional Quebec poutines.

 Architecture & Data Modeling

 1. Hierarchical Menu Schema

Each restaurant item is modeled with relational attributes capturing meal modifiers:

Base Item: Quarter chicken dinner (Cuisses vs. Poitrine).

Format Options: Sit-down rotisserie dining at st hubert vs. Express takeout counters.

Side Pairings: Traditional Canadian fries, coleslaw (creamy vs. traditional), and signature rotisserie dipping sauce.

Catering Bundles: Pricing breakdown for large group packages at st-hubert barbecue.

 2. Mobile-First Presentation

Over 82% of Canadian diners browse restaurant pricing on mobile devices right before visiting or ordering. We prioritized responsive data tables, low Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and sub-second Largest Contentful Paint (LCP).

 Community Discussion

How do you approach real-time menu data synchronization when aggregating multi-unit restaurant chains without official public GraphQL or REST APIs? Do you rely on headless browser scrapers, webhook triggers, or crowd-sourced receipt validation?

Check out the live directory at https://st-hubertmenu.ca/ and share your architectural thoughts below!
