[I got tired of messy folders, so I started building my own file organiser

A few days ago I opened my Downloads folder and realised I had no idea what was actually in it.

Random ZIP files, screenshots, installers, PDFs, old school stuff, and folders I'd forgotten existed.

I could've spent 20 minutes cleaning it up.

Instead, I started building a desktop app.

The idea

The project is called FileFlow.

The goal is simple:

Pick a folder
Analyse the files
Organise everything automatically
Keep it easy to undo if something goes wrong

Nothing groundbreaking. Just something I'd actually use.

Why I built it

Most file organisers I found were either:

Too complicated
Filled with features I didn't need
Abandoned
Just not very nice to use

I wanted something that felt lightweight.

The kind of app where you open it, click a button, and your folders stop looking like a disaster.

Current features

Right now I'm working on things like:

Automatic file categorisation
Custom sorting rules
Directory scanning
File statistics
Organisation previews
Dark mode

Still a lot left to build, but it's starting to feel like a real application instead of a random experiment.

https://github.com/stopcinning/FileFlow check it out.
