On October 20, 2026 we read the descriptions of 42,224 open tech and digital jobs in the US, collected from employers' own hiring systems. We looked for one thing: what each post says about visa sponsorship.

399 posts (0.9%) say sponsorship is available, or may be.

3,379 posts (8.0%) say it is not.

38,446 posts (91.1%) don't say either way.

For every post that offers sponsorship, about 8.5 rule it out.

These numbers show what job posts say. They don't show who employers actually sponsor.

The word "sponsor" is a trap

It appears in 7,860 descriptions, or 18.6%. Many of them are not a clear answer. Some ask the candidate "Will you require sponsorship?". Some are about a security clearance, not a visa. Some say yes in one place and no in another. We counted all of these as "nothing clear".

 By direction

Direction

Jobs

Says yes

Says no

Software Engineering

16,532

1.3%

6.4%

Design & Creative

1,838

0.9%

7.7%

Data & AI

6,181

0.8%

8.9%

Product & Project

7,657

0.7%

10.6%

IT & Security

6,380

0.6%

8.4%

Marketing & Growth

2,602

0.6%

8.9%

Content & Social

1,034

0.6%

5.7%

Software engineering has the highest share of posts that say yes. Product and project roles rule it out most often, in about one post out of ten.

 If you need a visa

A post that says nothing is not a no. A sponsored hire can still happen there. Read the work authorization line in each listing, because policies can change from role to role.

The breakdown by role, level, work mode and employer, with the method, is in the full report.

This post was written with AI assistance and checked against the source data.
