Getting Started with OpenClaw: Running an AI Coding Assistant Locally

As an AI enthusiast and Full Stack Developer, I enjoy experimenting with modern AI tools that improve productivity. Recently, I installed OpenClaw locally to experience an open-source AI coding assistant that runs directly on my machine.

The installation involved configuring the OpenClaw Gateway, setting up the required environment, and connecting it with supported AI models. During the setup, I encountered a few configuration issues, but troubleshooting them helped me understand how OpenClaw works behind the scenes.

After successfully launching the dashboard, I explored its features, including AI-powered coding assistance, project analysis, and intelligent development workflows. Running OpenClaw locally provides better control, privacy, and flexibility compared to relying solely on cloud-based tools.

One of the biggest advantages is the ability to integrate OpenClaw into my personal development workflow while learning more about Agentic AI and modern AI engineering practices.

This project also gave me hands-on experience with local AI tooling, environment configuration, and debugging complex setups—skills that are increasingly valuable for AI developers.

I'm excited to continue exploring OpenClaw and integrating similar AI tools into future projects.
