🤖 AI Was Meant to Assist Us… But What Happens When It Starts Replacing Our Thinking?

As a Computer Science student in the age of AI, I’ve become quite accustomed to tools like ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and Meta AI. Whether it’s completing programming tasks, writing academic content, designing a presentation, or debugging a spreadsheet formula—these tools have been my go-to companions.

I’m completing my work at nearly 2x the speed, and on the surface, life seems sorted.

But is it?

⚠️ The Realization: When a 2-Year-Old Asked Me Something

One afternoon, while I was working, my 2-year-old niece asked me a basic question—something innocent, childlike, and simple.

My first instinct?

I copied the question and pasted it into ChatGPT.

That moment hit hard.

Why was I using an AI to answer a toddler’s simple curiosity?

That’s when I realized something uncomfortable—I had become dependent, and I wasn’t alone.

🧠 Are We Losing Our Thinking Muscle?

Let’s rewind a bit. Remember the pre-AI era?

We had doubts.

We reached out to books, friends, or mentors.

We struggled, failed, and grew.

Books and friends gave us answers. But mentors helped us think.

They gave us clues, frameworks, and paths—not solutions.

Today, it’s different. Tools like ChatGPT and Copilot don’t just assist—they complete.

We don’t learn the solution—we copy it.

And slowly, we’re outsourcing the most human part of the process: critical thinking.

 ⚙️ The Convenience Trap

AI tools are powerful—let’s not deny it.

I use them. You probably do too.

But here’s the trap:

Convenience is addictive.

And like all addictions, it comes with long-term effects:

❌ Diminished problem-solving ability

❌ Reduced memory recall

❌ Lack of originality in thought

❌ Poor debugging and foundational understanding

❌ Over-reliance on AI for even the most basic tasks

It’s like using GPS every time you step outside—you reach your destination, but you forget how to navigate.

🤔 So, What Are We Really Missing Out On?

In one word? Depth.

We’re missing out on:

That “aha!” moment when you crack the logic on your own

The grit of debugging your code manually and learning through mistakes

The connection between concepts built by thinking, not prompting

The growth that comes through curiosity, effort, and resilience

AI can summarize, assist, recommend.

But it can’t replace original thought—at least not yet.

🛠️ Where AI Should Fit In

Don’t get me wrong—AI isn’t the enemy.

Here’s a better mindset:

Use AI like a mentor, not like a magician.

Let it:

🔍 Give you hints, not full answers

🧠 Review your work, not write it

💡 Challenge your thoughts, not replace them

If you’re a student, developer, or creative professional—don’t let AI rob you of the very journey that builds your identity.

 ✅ My Personal Rule Now

Ask yourself before using AI:

“Can I try solving this on my own first?”

Even spending 10 honest minutes thinking, researching, or writing on your own before prompting AI can shift your learning curve drastically.

📢 Final Thoughts – AI is a Tool, Not a Crutch

Yes, ChatGPT, Copilot, and Meta AI are incredible tools.

Yes, they make us faster.

But don’t trade your growth for convenience.

You are more than the sum of your prompts.

 🔄 Join the Conversation

We’re all navigating this AI revolution together.

Have you ever caught yourself outsourcing your thinking?

💬 Share your story in the comments:

How has AI changed your approach to learning or creativity?

Do you feel more productive, or more dependent?

Let’s explore the balance—using AI as a bridge, not a replacement.

Let’s think first, then prompt.

I Let AI Design My Portfolio Website—Here’s What Went Wrong (And So Right)

🔥 A spicy tale of code, chaos, and creativity in the age of artificial intelligence 🔥*

Ever stared at your screen, wondering what your developer portfolio should look like—while AI tools scream in your ears, “I got this!”? Well, I let them take the wheel. From ChatGPT to GitHub Copilot, here's the unfiltered story of how I built my portfolio using AI—and why it almost became a digital haunted house.

⚠️ Spoiler: AI doesn’t always get it right—but it sure knows how to try.

🤖 The Game Plan: AI Builds, I Supervise

With hundreds of portfolio templates online, I thought—why not do something different? I gave my AI assistant (aka ChatGPT) a simple prompt:

“Design me a portfolio website that makes recruiters say ‘Damn, who’s this?’”

The result? A stunning, minimal layout with dynamic animations, tech stack highlights, and even a section titled “This is not another boring About Me.” I was sold. But then, things got interesting...

🚨 When Smart Becomes Dumb (And Vice Versa)

Here’s what went wrong:

Too Much Creativity, Not Enough Logic

The layout was flashy but broke responsiveness on mobile. The AI forgot that most recruiters don’t open websites on a 32-inch screen.

Dead SEO

My beautiful site was invisible on Google. No meta tags, no structured data, not even alt text. It was basically a ghost town with Wi-Fi.

Generic Wording

My About section sounded like it was copy-pasted from every other LinkedIn profile:

“A passionate developer driven by curiosity and coffee.” Yeah, okay.

But here’s what went right:

💡 AI helped me set up the project structure in minutes.

🎨 It generated sleek TailwindCSS styles I wouldn’t have thought of.

🧠 It forced me to think like a reviewer, not just a developer.

💥 Lessons From the Code Trenches

AI is your co-pilot, not your captain.

Let it help, but always review like your career depends on it (because it might).

Generic is invisible.

If your site looks like 100 others, why should anyone care?

Spice > Sugar.

Add personality. Humor. A weird hobby. A quote that’s not from Steve Jobs.

👨‍💻 Want to Try This Yourself?

Here’s what I’d recommend:

✅ Use AI to brainstorm layouts, but wireframe them yourself.

✅ Ask ChatGPT to review your content like a recruiter would.

✅ Let Copilot write boilerplate, but own the final brush strokes.

 🚀 The Final Product

In the end, I had a site that was 60% AI-assisted, 40% me—and 100% authentic. It got me freelance gigs, compliments, and confidence. I’ll take that.

🔗 Check it out here (If it’s down, I probably broke something. Again.)

 ✍️ Final Thoughts

AI is changing how we build. But the best part of being human is imperfection. Make your portfolio a story, not a slideshow. A vibe, not a resume.

So go ahead—let AI help. But keep the soul in the source code.

 💬 Let’s Talk!

Have you ever used AI to build something personal?

👇 Drop your story in the comments or reply with your own AI-built project—let’s inspire (and roast) together!

⚔️ Cyber Wars 2025: How India Is Battling Digital Threats on Multiple Fronts

In May 2025, India finds itself at the epicenter of an unprecedented digital conflict.

Following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated beyond traditional warfare—spilling into the cyber realm.

This new battleground has witnessed over 1.5 million cyberattacks on Indian infrastructure, with only 150 confirmed breaches—a testament to the strength and responsiveness of India’s cybersecurity defense.

🛡️ Operation Sindoor: India's Cyber Counteroffensive

In retaliation, India’s ethical hacker groups like Indian Cyber Force (ICF), Kerala Cyber Xtractors, and Indian Cyber Defender launched a digital counterstrike under “Operation Sindoor”.

They successfully targeted:

Pakistani Government Servers

Federal Board of Revenue

Major Financial Institutions

These vigilante cyber warriors demonstrated India’s capability—but also exposed the need for more skilled cybersecurity personnel.

📌 India currently has ~20,000 cybersecurity professionals, while China has over 100,000.

⚠️ Internal Cybercrime Surge in India

While defending its borders, India also faces growing internal cyber threats.

Districts like Bhavnagar, Banaskantha, and Mehsana in Gujarat are now hotbeds of cyber fraud.

 Common scams include:

Digital arrest hoaxes

Fake police or CBI impersonations

Online job fraud and phishing

In Prayagraj, local cyber police recently refunded ₹95,900 to two victims—thanks to quick action and traceable digital footprints.

 🧠 Building a Cyber-Resilient India

India is taking serious steps to strengthen its defenses:

Odisha Government will train every police officer in cybercrime investigation.

IMD (India Meteorological Department) restricted internal access to prevent breaches from suspected Pakistani and Afghan IPs.

Nationwide awareness programs are being rolled out to educate the public about digital hygiene.

5 Developer Trends Shaping the IT Sector in 2025

Over the past few years, I have realized something important: staying a good developer is no longer just about writing clean code. It is about understanding how the entire landscape around us is shifting—technologies, workflows, and even the way we think about our impact.

As 2025 unfolds, I have been keeping a close eye on trends that are not just buzzwords but are actually changing the way we build, deploy, and secure software. In this post, I am sharing the five trends that I believe every developer should have on their radar this year.

 1. Vibe Coding: Programming Through Natural Language

The first time I tried using natural language to generate code through an AI model, it honestly felt surreal. Instead of sweating over syntax, I could just describe what I wanted, and the AI handled the heavy lifting.

This approach, known as "vibe coding," is gaining massive traction. Tools like AWS Q Developer are making it easier for developers to collaborate with AI efficiently, treating it as an assistant rather than a replacement.

Learning how to communicate your intent clearly to AI is becoming a real skill—and one I am personally working on mastering this year.

 2. Green Software Engineering: Sustainable Coding Practices

Sustainability used to feel like something that was "not my problem" as a developer. That mindset has changed for me. Today, writing green, efficient code is not just about saving costs—it is about building responsibly.

From optimizing cloud usage to creating lighter apps, green practices are becoming a core part of modern development. Organizations are also starting to prioritize developers who understand sustainable technology choices.

Embedding eco-consciousness into your codebase is no longer optional. It is part of being a future-ready developer.

 3. Edge Computing: Processing Closer to the Source

Recently, while working on a small IoT project, I experienced firsthand how powerful edge computing can be. Moving computation closer to where data is generated (instead of round-tripping to the cloud) cut our response time dramatically.

In industries like healthcare, smart cities, and autonomous vehicles, this efficiency is critical. Frameworks like AWS Greengrass and Azure IoT Edge are giving developers the tools to build faster, more reliable systems.

Edge computing is a growing field, and it is something I am personally excited to explore deeper in 2025.

 4. The Rise of Low-Code and No-Code Platforms

A few years ago, if you had told me I would enjoy using low-code tools, I probably would have laughed. But after trying platforms like OutSystems and Bubble for rapid prototyping, my perspective has shifted.

Low-code does not replace serious coding—it accelerates it when used wisely. It lets you focus your time and energy on solving the harder problems, rather than spending weeks reinventing basic components.

In today's fast-moving tech world, knowing when to "build fast" and when to "build deep" is a huge competitive advantage.

 5. DevSecOps: Embedding Security Throughout Development

Security was something I used to think about late in a project—usually when it was too late to fix things cleanly. Today, DevSecOps is teaching us to think about security from the very beginning.

By integrating security scans, vulnerability checks, and coding best practices into the daily development workflow, we can prevent many issues before they even happen. Tools like SonarQube, Snyk, and GitGuardian have become essential parts of my workflow.

Secure development is not an afterthought anymore—it is baked into every line of code.

 Final Thoughts

The developer landscape is evolving fast, and simply keeping up is not enough—we need to stay ahead.

I am personally focusing on three things this year: embracing AI collaboration, building more sustainably, and sharpening my security mindset.

There is no shortage of opportunities in 2025 for developers willing to adapt, innovate, and lead with purpose.

If you found this article insightful, I would love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to connect or leave a comment—I genuinely enjoy learning from fellow developers and exchanging ideas.

From Bengali Tea Breaks to Python Breakpoints — My Journey into Code and Curiosity

"Code is poetry, written with purpose."

— This line isn’t just my GitHub bio; it’s my way of life.

The Beginning: Of Chai, Curiosity & Chaos

It all began in a quiet corner of Bengal, with a cup of cha and an old laptop that wheezed like it needed CPR. Between schoolbooks and board exams, I found myself more fascinated by the logic of loops than the loops in my chemistry syllabus.

And while my friends debated football scores, I was busy debugging why my
for loop
wouldn’t stop printing "Hello World" 1000 times.

That’s when it hit me — this was more than just a hobby.

It was my way of thinking, expressing, and eventually, dreaming.

Falling for Code: The Logical Romance

I didn’t fall for code like a thunderclap.

It was more like slow jazz.

First Python, then SQL, then web development. Every “hello world” felt like an introduction to a new universe.

Projects became my playground:

A weather app that actually worked (on good days).

A mini data dashboard powered by Python and Pandas.

A photo portfolio site that now holds memories of places I’ve traveled.

Each mini-project taught me not just code, but how to think — and more importantly, how to Google better :)

 Why BCA (Hons.)? Why Now?

The answer is simple: I want to dive deeper.

Not just skim tutorials or copy-paste code but build, break, and understand.

Choosing a 4-year BCA (Hons.) felt like committing to a long-term relationship with tech.

And yes, we’re still in the honeymoon phase.

My Exploration Map: Data, Cloud, Blockchain

Choosing a specialization was like picking a favorite from a buffet — everything looked delicious.

But here’s what’s cooking in my brain:

Data Analytics: Numbers don’t lie, and patterns tell stories.

Cloud Computing: Because scaling your ideas shouldn't need a supercomputer.

Blockchain Tech: The future of trust, decentralization, and maybe my final year capstone.

 What I’m Building (and Breaking)

"Build in public" — they say. So here I go:

[] GitHub Portfolio with clean code and cool mini-projects (still enhancing and to be made public)

[ ] Launching a LinkedIn-ready BCA roadmap (stay tuned!)

[ ] Contributing to open-source by semester 4

[ ] Creating my own productivity + code tools

[x] Started writing dev blogs (like this!)

Beyond Tech: The Other Side of Me

When I’m not debugging code, I’m probably:

Capturing sunsets and street food

Writing Bengali shayari that I never publish

Dreaming of a travel blog + dev vlog someday

 Final Thoughts: Why I Blog

I’m not a tech guru (yet), and I don’t have 10 years of experience.

But what I do have is a spark. A hunger to learn.

And a love for telling stories — in code and in words.

If you’ve made it this far, maybe you’re like me — curious, a little chaotic, and passionate about building things.

Let’s connect. Let’s grow.

And maybe, let’s share a cup of cha while debugging life.

** Connect with me:**

Code With Masala: Why Boring Devs Build Boring Stuff

Let’s not sugarcoat it—

Tech content is getting way too polite.

Everyone’s walking on eggshells, posting tutorials like they’re writing IKEA manuals.

But we’re developers, not robots. We like caffeine, chaos, late-night bugs, and shipping broken features with confidence. So why should our approach to code be plain and clinical?

Here’s your dose of dev masala:

The unfiltered, spicy truth we all pretend not to know.

 1. “Best Practices” Are Just Peer-Approved FOMO

You don’t need to use 17 layers of abstraction to look smart.

Sometimes that “clean code” is just over-engineered spaghetti in a suit.

Hot take:

If your code is readable, testable, and works — it's good code. Period.

Don’t let a 20-minute YouTuber trick you into rewriting your app just to add another hook.

 2. Framework FOMO Is Killing Your Creativity

React, Vue, Svelte, Solid, Qwik, whatever's next...

You don’t have to try every framework just to stay relevant. You’re a dev, not a guinea pig.

Choose tools like you choose relationships—not because they’re trendy, but because they make you better.

 3. Build Stupid Projects (Seriously)

Everyone’s out here trying to build the next SaaS unicorn.

But your portfolio’s got more clones than the Star Wars prequels.

Try this instead:

An AI that writes break-up texts

A CLI tool that insults you until you hydrate

A weather app that screams based on the temperature

Make something absurd. Because absurd is memorable.

 4. Your Code Is Your Personality

The way you name variables.

The commit messages you leave at 3AM.

The chaos in your TODO comments.

That’s your voice, your vibe, your weird little fingerprint on the codebase.

Don’t mute it just to be “professional.”

 5. Boring Developers Build Boring Stuff

You want to ship things that make people go:

“Wait... who built this?!”

To do that, you need a bit of chaos. A dash of risk. Some reckless experiments and a whole lot of play.

Think less: “How should I do this?”

Think more: “What if I just... did it my way?”

 Final Line

Anyone can write code.

But only the bold write code with spice, surprise, and just enough madness to make it magic.

So the next time you hit
git commit
, ask yourself:

Was this spicy enough to deserve the push?

 Your Turn

Got a spicy dev story? A weird side project?

Something you built that made people go “WTF... but in a good way”?

Drop it in the comments or tag me @modak-tamajit on GitHub or @am_modak on Instagram.

Let’s keep the dev world delicious. 😎

“But it works!”

Yeah, so does duct tape — doesn’t mean you should build a spaceship with it.

 💻 The Real Talk:

We’ve all done it.

You hit an error, your brain melts, and Stack Overflow becomes your best friend.

You scroll down, spot that green checkmark, copy the code... paste it...

Boom! It works.

You feel like a hero.

But here’s the problem — you’re not learning. You’re just surviving.

 🧨 Copy-Paste Coding = Shortcut to Nowhere

Let me break it to you:

Blindly pasting someone else's solution without understanding why it works is like memorizing answers for an exam. You might pass the test — but you won’t pass in life (or tech interviews).

You’ll struggle when something breaks.

You won’t be able to explain your own code.

Worst of all, you’ll stop growing as a developer.

And trust me — recruiters, senior devs, and your future self will notice.

👨‍🔧 What You Should Do Instead:

 1. Read the Docs (Yes, Really)

Documentation isn’t the enemy — it’s the secret weapon. The best devs are the best readers.

 2. Break It Down

When you see a solution, pause. Ask:

What does each line do?

Why does it work?

What would happen if I changed it?

 3. Rebuild from Scratch

Try writing your own version of the fix. Even if it’s messier, it’s YOURS. That’s how mastery starts.

 4. Use Comments to Teach Yourself

Write inline comments explaining the logic in your own words. If you can explain it, you get it.

📚 Stack Overflow Is a Tool — Not a Teacher

Don’t get me wrong. Stack Overflow is gold...

If you use it the right way.

Use it to understand patterns.

Use it to compare approaches.

Use it as a springboard for deeper learning.

But never use it as a crutch to skip the thinking part.

 💬 Final Thought:

Great developers aren’t just good at solving problems.

They’re good at understanding them.

So the next time you Ctrl+C from Stack Overflow...

Make sure your brain hits Ctrl+Z first and actually thinks.

"Why I Stopped Learning Every Language—And Started Mastering One"

“In a world full of frameworks, depth is the new flex.”

 Introduction: The Dev Dilemma

In today’s fast-paced dev world, there’s always a new shiny thing—Go, Rust, Next.js, Bun, Astro, you name it. I was running on the same hamster wheel—one tutorial after another, switching languages like Spotify playlists.

But here's what hit me:

Chasing everything was stopping me from mastering anything.

This blog is about how I flipped my learning mindset—from "jack of all stacks" to "master of meaningful code."

 1. The Toxic Loop of “Learning Everything”

I used to think that knowing 10 languages would make me a better dev. It made me feel productive. But truth is:

I couldn’t build confidently with any one of them.

My GitHub was full of unfinished experiments.

I was burned out, not leveled up.

It’s like dating a dozen languages but committing to none.

 2. Why Mastery > Multitasking

When I picked Python and SQL as my core stack, everything changed. I could finally:

Build real projects, not just follow-alongs.

Debug deeply because I knew the internals.

Teach others—and teaching locked in my own learning.

Mastery breeds confidence. Confidence creates momentum.

 3. But What About “Keeping Up”?

FOMO is real. But the truth? Tech is a cycle, not a sprint.

Frameworks come and go. Paradigms evolve. But depth sticks.

Once you deeply understand one language, learning others becomes easier.

Learn how to think like a dev. The syntax will follow.

 4. How I Choose What to Learn Now

Here’s my new 3-question filter:

Will I use it in the next 6 months?

Does it align with my career goal (e.g., Data/Cloud/Blockchain)?

Can I build or teach something meaningful with it?

If it’s a yes to at least 2—it’s worth it.

 5. The Joy of Going Deep

I rediscovered why I started coding.

Not for buzzwords. Not to impress.

But because it’s fun to build, break, fix, and understand.

Now, my GitHub isn’t crowded. But it’s clean. My projects are simple but strong. My learning is slower—but smarter.

 Closing Thoughts

You don’t have to learn it all to be a great dev.

You just have to learn well.

So slow down. Go deep.

Master one language, and let that mastery open the rest.

 TL;DR

Stop sprinting across the dev map. Start mining the gold beneath your feet.

Choose one stack. Go deep. Build loud.

 Let’s Connect & Grow Together!

Enjoyed this post? Let's keep the conversation going.

From Queries to Curiosity: How Learning SQL Taught Me More About Life Than Code

“Code is poetry, written with purpose.”
– Me, and maybe you too.

 Introduction

When I first cracked open the world of SQL, I thought I was just learning another programming language. Rows, columns, joins, and conditions—simple stuff, right? But somewhere between debugging queries and optimizing data pulls, I realized I wasn't just learning syntax—I was learning how to think.

This blog isn’t just a tutorial—it’s a reflection on how diving deep into SQL shifted the way I see problem-solving, communication, and even people.

 1. SELECT * FROM life; — The Power of Asking

SQL taught me to ask questions with intention.
In life, we often ask vague questions and get vague answers.
But just like:

SELECT name FROM people WHERE passion = 'coding';

—precision leads to clarity. I started applying that same mindset to my conversations, my goals, and even my travels. Be specific, and life gives you what you actually need.

 2. JOINs Are Relationships

In SQL, you JOIN tables. In life, you JOIN people, ideas, and dreams.

The types of JOINs? They’re eerily accurate metaphors:

INNER JOIN — People who truly align with your journey.

LEFT JOIN — You give more than you receive.

RIGHT JOIN — The ones who support you, even when you're not ready.

FULL OUTER JOIN — Everyone who's touched your life, even briefly.

 3. WHERE Conditions Apply Everywhere

Setting conditions in SQL is about filtering the noise.
In life, boundaries work the same way.

Want to grow? Use your own WHERE clause.

SELECT peace FROM life WHERE negativity = 'none';

Cut the clutter. Optimize your energy.

 4. GROUP BY Purpose, Not Just Projects

SQL groups data based on shared values. Why don’t we?
I realized the value of surrounding myself with people who get my mission—fellow coders, poets, explorers. My tribe.

SELECT count(*), purpose FROM friends GROUP BY purpose;

Stick with those who vibe with your vision.

 5. ORDER BY Impact DESC

If you’re gonna leave a mark, let it be meaningful. Whether you're writing SQL, crafting a poem, or capturing a sunset in Dehradun—do it with intent. Prioritize value.

SELECT actions FROM life ORDER BY impact DESC;

Because that’s what people remember.

 Closing Thoughts

SQL wasn’t just a language for databases. It became a language for life.

It taught me structure in chaos, patterns in people, and logic in emotion.

So the next time you open a terminal, remember—you’re not just coding.
You’re crafting a life with queries, joins, and purpose.

 TL;DR

SQL isn’t just about data. It’s about clarity, connection, and confidence.

And trust me—whether in tech or in life,
those who write good queries usually ask the right questions.

 Let’s Connect!

If this blog made you look at SQL (or life) a little differently, consider:

Leaving a comment — I’d love to hear your take!

“We write queries, but what we’re really searching for... is connection.”
– Me again 😄
