Hi There! This is Tamtam.
I'm organizing "Japanglish Tech" event with Naru, Ayaka, and Yori.

 What is Japanglish Tech Talk?

This is an English-only LT event for engineers held in Tokyo, Japan!
It is difficult to speak English in Japan because most conversations are in Japanese.
With this in mind, we are organizing this event to provide a casual opportunity to speak at an LT event in Tokyo.

Japanglish Tech Talk #6 Presentation :-D

We had our 6th Japanglish Tech Talk event!
The theme this time was "Developer Productivity" - a topic that resonates with every engineer.
So I will briefly share the presentations.

Japanglish Tech Talk#6

YouTube Recording

 Thank you for sponsoring!

We would like to express our gratitude to Tech Biz, Sentry Japan (Ichizoku), and Job Draft（転職ドラフト） for their cooperation in hosting this event.
Thank you once again! 🙏

Sponsor

Blog / Site

Tech Biz

https://freelance.techbiz.com/

Sentry Japan (Ichizoku)

https://ichizoku.io/category/sentry/

Job Draft（転職ドラフト）

https://job-draft.jp/

 Presentations

Changing Companies, Constant Challenges: What Four Approaches Taught Me About Developer Productivity

Speaker: Taiji @taiponrock

Taiji shared his journey through four different companies (IBM, OutSystems, Datadog, and HERE Technologies), revealing how each company's approach to developer productivity taught him valuable lessons. He emphasized that despite different tools and contexts, the core principles remain the same: developers thrive with clarity, autonomy, and fast feedback. His personal story about learning English at 35 and how it transformed his career was particularly inspiring!

How TypeScript Unification Improved Our Development Productivity

Speaker: ytaisei (たいせー) @ytaisei_

Taisei from AI Shift (CyberAgent group) presented how they boosted productivity by unifying their development with TypeScript. As they evolved from separate AI and Dev teams to collaborative teams building AI agents, they chose TypeScript over Python for better type safety and team alignment. The result? Improved development speed, better cross-team collaboration, and enhanced communication speed.

Boosting Development Productivity Through Lessons Learned from Implementing OAuth2.0

Speaker: subaru @247Subaru

Subaru, who joined AI Shift just two months ago, shared how implementing OAuth2.0 taught him three critical success factors for productivity:

Leveraging standard specifications (RFCs)

Creating shared team knowledge

Investing in foundations like automated testing

His journey from OAuth1's complexity to OAuth2's simplicity demonstrated how standards and good documentation can dramatically improve development efficiency.

Why Testing Isn't Just About Bugs: The Testing Process as a Path to Developer Flow

Speaker: David Pich @aiosym

David, a fresh graduate from Cambodia, shared his transformation from seeing testing as just "finding bugs" to understanding it as a productivity booster. Through his company's "Test, Analysis, and Design" sessions before coding, he learned to approach development with confidence and peace of mind. His message: testing-first approach is especially helpful for new engineers!

 Interactive Discussion Sessions

One unique aspect of our event was the interactive discussion time. Participants paired up to discuss:

Non-AI Development Productivity - focusing on traditional productivity improvements

AI-Powered Development Productivity - exploring how AI tools are changing our workflows

Key insights shared:

Clear requirements definition is crucial for productivity

AI tools like mockup generators help bridge communication gaps between developers and stakeholders

Tools like v0 and Lovable are game-changers for rapid prototyping

 Community Spirit

What makes Japanglish Tech Talk special is our supportive environment. As we always say: "You don't need to speak perfect English. We just need to speak English!"

This philosophy creates a safe space for Japanese engineers to practice technical English presentations without fear of judgment.

The next event will also be held!

The next meet-up (#7) is already in planning!
We would like to express our gratitude to Ichizoku and Timee for their cooperation in hosting this event.
Thank you once again! 🙏

Ichizoku Blog: https://ichizoku.io/category/sentry/

Timee Blog: https://techplay.jp/community/timee/blog

The world I saw when I changed my job from front-end engineer to PM

youtube

Speaker: Natty

After transitioning from a frontend engineer to a PM role, their position changed to one where they're evaluated not only on tangible deliverables like coding but also on less visible elements such as problem prevention and progress management.

They need to quickly make priority decisions and decisions while maintaining a bird's-eye view of stakeholders and the entire team, not just parts of development tasks.

As a result, they've developed skills to understand the information and perspectives needed by various stakeholders and to advance projects with a broader vision.

The most efficient way of growing your English vocabulary and the importance of English proficiency in global career

youtube

Speaker: Musa

In English vocabulary learning, both efficient memorization through word lists and enjoyable input through extensive reading and listening are important.

However, both learning methods have their advantages and disadvantages, and review and searching for unknown words are essential for effective continuous learning.

Therefore, by utilizing learning tools such as Vocabulary AI apps, real-time word searches and pronunciation checks become possible, enabling more efficient and enjoyable vocabulary enhancement.

Beyond Coding: The Power of Diverse Paths

youtube

Speaker: Mutsumix

The case study of someone who transitioned from the education industry to the tech industry, initially building up fundamental skills in documentation and software testing while learning Java and cloud technologies, and eventually becoming an executive officer, it demonstrated that "paths will open up if you continue learning, regardless of age or previous industry experience."

They emphasized that the key to success was their ability to understand customer needs and balance technical capabilities with requirements, leveraging their past experience in selling Japanese textbooks overseas and diverse work experience.

What I learned from 3years experience as a software engineer

youtube

Speaker: yamaga

The speaker emphasized that software engineers should not merely be code writers, but rather domain experts who understand customer challenges and create solutions.

They explained that fundamental knowledge is essential for understanding new technologies.

They stressed that while there is no such thing as a perfect engineer, especially in an era of evolving AI, it's important to gradually identify uniquely human value contributions and build one's career.

The next event will also be held!

The next meet-up will be held next April! XD

 What is Japanglish Tech Talk?

This is an English-only LT event for engineers held in Tokyo, Japan!

It is difficult to speak English in Japan because most conversations are in Japanese.

presentation material

Speaker: Musa

Describes the "Gemini" feature introduced at Google I/O 2024.

we look forward to future improvements such as the accuracy of the design details not matching what we had imagined, lack of image input options, and initial compilation errors.

Building My First Infrastructure The way from EC2 to ECS

presentation material

Speaker: Zaki

Speaker: kohekohe

Presents the experience of building an engineering team and replacing an existing application with modern technology.

I especially sympathize with the user data migration story.

 htmx for backend engineer

presentation material

Speaker: Nakamura
