My submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 4: Ghost in the Machine.

💡 What I Built

Some memories are too precious to forget.

A person's voice, their favourite stories, small daily habits, and the little things they used to say can stay with us long after they are gone.

However, these memories are often scattered across photographs, personal notes, conversations, and our own thoughts.

I wanted to explore how AI could help people preserve and revisit these memories in a more personal way.

That idea became Echoes of the Lantern, a privacy-focused memory archive that uses browser-based AI to help people create remembrance stories and interact with saved memories.

Inspired by the visual idea of a remembrance altar, the project creates a calm digital space where users can record meaningful details about someone important to them.

The goal is simple:

Keep meaningful memories alive, one story at a time.

✨ Key Features

📝 Create a Memory

Users can create a personal memory by entering details such as:

A person's name.

Their relationship or connection.

A memorable story.

Favourite food or drink.

Favourite song or flower.

Small personal details that make the memory special.

These details become the starting point for creating a remembrance experience.

🏮 Remembrance Story Generator

Echoes of the Lantern uses AI to turn saved memory details into a remembrance-style story.

It helps organize personal information into a more readable and meaningful format.

The generated story can help users revisit important moments and remember the small details that make someone special.

AI-generated stories may sometimes add incorrect details, so users should review the output and ensure it accurately represents their memories.

📚 Personal Memory Archive

Users can view their saved memories in one organized place.

The archive provides a simple way to revisit previously created memories instead of searching through different notes and documents.

💬 Ask the Echo

This feature allows users to ask questions about their saved memories.

For example:

What was my grandfather's favourite morning routine?

Which food did he enjoy?

What small habit do I remember about him?

What advice did he give me?

The AI uses the saved memory as context to generate a response.

The feature is designed to make revisiting memories feel more interactive.

However, AI responses are not guaranteed to be accurate and should not be treated as a source of facts beyond the information saved by the user.

🔒 Privacy-Focused Experience

Privacy is an important part of Echoes of the Lantern.

The application is designed around browser-based memory storage and local AI inference.

Memories are stored in browser storage.

AI inference is designed to run on the user's device.

The application does not use an external AI inference server for memory generation.

No user account is required for the basic experience.

The hosted website still needs an internet connection to load. Model availability and initial model loading may also depend on the browser and network environment.

🎬 Project Demo

🌐 Live Website:

https://echoes-of-the-lantern.onrender.com/

🎥 Video Demo:

https://www.image2url.com/r2/default/videos/1793461841699-b23ef2a6-febb-4843-bfb7-336e2105e952.mp4

The demo introduces the project interface and shows how users can create a memory, generate a remembrance story, explore their personal archive, and interact with saved memories using Ask the Echo.

It also demonstrates the project's main idea: using AI to create a personal and privacy-focused digital space for meaningful memories.

💻 Source Code

GitHub Repository:

https://github.com/tanmaydave2007-netizen/echoes-of-the-lantern

The project is available for developers who want to explore its implementation, understand browser-based AI integration, or contribute improvements.

🛠️ How I Built It

Echoes of the Lantern uses a browser-based architecture with React and Vite.

The project uses the following technologies:

⚛️ React: Builds the interactive user interface.

⚡ Vite: Provides the development and production build environment.

🎨 CSS: Creates the visual design, layouts, colours, and responsive styling.

💻 JavaScript: Handles application logic and user interactions.

🤗 Hugging Face Transformers.js: Supports running AI models directly in the browser.

🤖 SmolLM2: The small language model used for local AI-powered memory interactions.

⚙️ Web Workers: Help keep AI processing separate from the main browser interface.

💾 Browser Storage: Stores users' memories in the browser.

🐙 Git and GitHub: Support source-code management and collaboration.

☁️ Render: Hosts the live web application.

The project explores how a small AI model can be integrated into a web application without depending on a remote AI inference server.

🔓 Why Open Innovation Matters

Open innovation makes AI development more accessible to independent developers and students.

Developers can explore available models, experiment with different architectures, study their behaviour, and build useful applications without training a large language model from scratch.

For Echoes of the Lantern, open-source AI technologies made it possible to explore a different approach to AI-powered applications.

🧠 AI on the User's Device

Many AI applications send user prompts to external servers.

Echoes of the Lantern explores browser-based local inference, where the AI model performs its generation work on the user's device rather than relying on a remote AI inference server.

This approach can help reduce the need to send personal memory content to an external AI inference service.

🔐 Privacy by Design

Personal memories can contain sensitive and meaningful information.

Keeping memory storage in the browser and using local inference helps explore a more privacy-focused architecture.

Users should still understand their browser storage, model-loading, and device-security limitations.

🧩 Accessible AI Development

Using a smaller model such as SmolLM2 allows developers to experiment with AI integration without necessarily requiring a powerful dedicated AI server.

Actual performance depends on the user's device, browser, and model-loading environment.

📚 Learning Through Open Technologies

Building this project helped me understand how frontend development, browser storage, Web Workers, and local AI inference can work together in one application.

Open technologies make it easier for students and independent developers to experiment, learn, and build new ideas.

👻 How It Supports the Ghost in the Machine Theme

The Ghost in the Machine theme inspired me to explore the connection between technology, memories, and AI.

A memory is not just a collection of facts.

It can include someone's habits, favourite things, conversations, stories, and the small details that make them unforgettable.

Echoes of the Lantern uses AI to create an interactive way to revisit these saved memories.

The AI acts as a digital companion that helps organize and explore the information users choose to preserve.

The project is not designed to recreate a person, imitate someone who has passed away, or claim that AI can bring memories back to life.

Instead, it explores how technology can help people preserve meaningful stories in a respectful and personal way.

A Simple Memory Workflow

Step 1: Open Echoes of the Lantern.

Step 2: Select Create a Memory.

Step 3: Enter meaningful details and personal stories.

Step 4: Generate a remembrance story using the AI.

Step 5: Save and revisit the memory in the archive.

Step 6: Use Ask the Echo to explore the saved details through questions.

This creates a simple digital process for preserving and revisiting important memories.

🚧 Current Limitations and Next Steps

Echoes of the Lantern is an evolving project, and there are several areas I want to improve.

My planned improvements include:

Improving AI response accuracy and reducing hallucinations.

Making generated remembrance stories more faithful to saved information.

Improving the Ask the Echo experience.

Adding better controls to edit and manage saved memories.

Improving backup and restore options.

Testing browser storage behaviour across different devices.

Improving model-loading and error-handling experiences.

Testing the experience across desktop and mobile browsers.

Improving accessibility and interface responsiveness.

Exploring additional small open-weight models.

Improving privacy documentation and user controls.

The current AI model may generate incorrect or unsupported details. Users should review generated content before saving or sharing it.

Local inference also depends on model availability and device capabilities.

📚 What I Learned

Building Echoes of the Lantern helped me gain practical experience with browser-based AI development.

I explored how to:

Build an interactive application using React and Vite.

Store information in browser storage.

Integrate a small language model using Transformers.js.

Use Web Workers for AI processing.

Connect AI functionality with a web interface.

Build a privacy-focused application architecture.

Manage source code using Git and GitHub.

Deploy a web application using Render.

Most importantly, I learned that building an AI application is not only about generating text.

A meaningful AI application also needs a clear purpose, a thoughtful user experience, responsible AI behaviour, privacy considerations, and honest communication about its limitations.

🎯 Final Thought

Some memories deserve a light that never goes out. 🏮

I built Echoes of the Lantern to explore how AI and open technologies can help people preserve meaningful memories in a personal and privacy-focused digital space.

The aim is not to replace human memories or emotions with artificial intelligence.

The aim is to use technology to help people organize, revisit, and appreciate the stories that matter to them.

Echoes of the Lantern — Keep the Memories Alive.

I welcome feedback, suggestions, and contributions from the open-source community!

My submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady.

💡 What I Built

Engineering students often spend a lot of time preparing notes, understanding practical programs, organizing syllabus topics, and practicing viva questions.

Before exams and practical assessments, students may need to manage multiple resources, including textbooks, laboratory manuals, code files, screenshots, and class notes.

Switching between these resources can make studying stressful and time-consuming.

VivaSloth AI is an AI-powered study assistant designed to make engineering preparation easier, more organized, and less stressful.

Instead of spending hours arranging study material, students can use VivaSloth AI to prepare structured explanations, practice viva questions, create revision plans, and understand technical topics.

The goal is simple: Spend less time organizing study materials and more time understanding them.

VivaSloth AI follows one important idea:

Study smart. Stay calm. Move at your own pace. 🦥

✨ Key Features

📚 Practical Prep Pack

Helps students prepare for laboratory practicals by organizing important information, including topic explanations, algorithms, code-related notes, common mistakes, and viva questions.

📝 GTU-Style Exam Answers

Helps students generate structured answers for different exam mark requirements, including 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 marks.

Students can review the generated answers and compare them with their official syllabus and course notes.

🗺️ Syllabus Map and Revision Planner

Helps students organize a large syllabus into smaller study goals.

A seven-day revision plan provides a simple way to decide what to study next.

🎤 Mock Viva Practice

Allows students to practice viva questions one at a time.

Students can review AI feedback, improve their explanations, and practice again.

💻 Programming and Code Explanations

Helps students understand programming concepts, algorithms, and code-related topics using organized explanations.

📄 Study Material Support

Provides options to work with supported text, code, PDF materials, and readable screenshots, depending on the application's processing capabilities and the selected AI model.

🌐 Web-Based Study Workspace

Brings different study preparation tools into one browser-based workspace.

Students do not need to install a large AI model locally to use the hosted version.

VivaSloth AI provides AI-generated study assistance, not guaranteed correct academic answers. Students should verify important information using official course materials and teachers' guidance.

🎬 Project Demo

🌐 Live Website: https://vivasloth-ai.onrender.com

🎥 Video Demo: https://www.image2url.com/r2/default/videos/1792909366472-ad36135b-eb8e-4dff-aa30-7ce90d5c6d3b.mp4

The demo introduces the VivaSloth AI interface and shows how its study tools are designed to help engineering students prepare for practical exams, revise syllabus topics, and practice viva questions.

It also demonstrates the project's main idea: making study preparation simpler without requiring students to manage everything manually.

💻 Source Code

GitHub Repository:

https://github.com/tanmaydave2007-netizen/vivasloth-ai

The project is intended to be publicly available for developers and students who want to explore its implementation, understand the application structure, or contribute improvements.

🛠️ How I Built It

VivaSloth AI uses a web-based architecture with a Python backend and a browser-based interface.

The project uses the following technologies:

🐍 Python: Handles backend application logic and AI-related requests.

🌐 HTML: Provides the structure of the study workspace.

🎨 CSS: Creates the interface, layouts, and visual styling.

⚡ JavaScript: Handles user interactions and communication with the backend.

🔧 Flask: Connects the frontend with the Python backend.

🤖 OpenRouter API: Provides access to a selected AI model for generating study assistance.

☁️ Render: Hosts the deployed web application.

💻 Git and GitHub: Support source-code management and project development.

The application is designed to turn study-related inputs into organized learning materials that students can review and improve.

AI generation requires an internet connection, and model availability depends on the selected provider.

🔓 Why Open Innovation Matters

Open innovation makes AI development more accessible to students and independent developers.

It allows developers to explore different AI models, experiment with prompts, learn from open technologies, and build useful applications without creating a large AI model from scratch.

For VivaSloth AI, the purpose of AI is not simply to generate text.

It is used to make common engineering study tasks easier.

Accessible AI for Students

Many students do not have powerful computers capable of running large AI models locally.

Using hosted inference makes it possible to develop and access AI-powered study tools without requiring expensive hardware.

Flexible Model Integration

VivaSloth AI's AI integration can be adapted to different supported models.

This provides flexibility to experiment with open-weight models and improve responses as the project evolves.

Task-Focused AI

Instead of using one general chatbot for everything, VivaSloth AI organizes AI assistance around specific student needs.

Practical preparation, exam answers, syllabus planning, and viva practice each have a clear purpose.

Learning Through Open Technologies

Building this project helped me understand how frontend development, backend APIs, AI inference, and cloud deployment can work together in a practical educational application.

Open-weight model availability, licences, provider limits, and data-handling policies must still be considered.

The hosted version is not an offline AI application, and uploaded content may be processed by the external AI provider.

🦥 How It Supports the Slow and Steady Theme

The theme Slow and Steady encourages developers to create AI tools that reduce unnecessary effort and make everyday tasks easier.

VivaSloth AI applies this idea to engineering education.

Students often repeat the same preparation tasks:

Searching through lengthy practical manuals.

Writing and organizing exam notes.

Separating important topics from the syllabus.

Preparing viva questions.

Planning revision before examinations.

Understanding unfamiliar code and technical concepts.

VivaSloth AI aims to reduce this repetitive preparation work.

A Simpler Study Workflow

Step 1: Open VivaSloth AI and select a study tool.

Step 2: Enter a topic, question, code example, or supported study material.

Step 3: Request a structured explanation, practical preparation pack, exam answer, or revision plan.

Step 4: Review the AI-generated material and verify important details.

Step 5: Focus on understanding, practicing, and improving instead of repeatedly organizing resources.

The result is a calmer and more focused approach to studying.

VivaSloth AI does not replace learning. It helps students spend more of their time actually learning.

That is what Slow and Steady means to this project.

🚧 Current Limitations and Next Steps

VivaSloth AI is an evolving project, and there are several areas I want to improve.

My planned improvements include:

Testing AI-generated answers across different engineering subjects.

Improving the accuracy of GTU-style answer formatting.

Making viva questions more relevant to individual topics.

Improving the usefulness of AI feedback during mock viva sessions.

Adding better support for uploaded academic materials.

Improving error handling when an AI model or API is unavailable.

Testing the interface across desktop and mobile browsers.

Improving privacy information and project documentation.

Exploring additional open-weight models for more flexible AI integration.

Making revision planning more personalized and useful.

AI-generated answers can contain errors, and free model endpoints may be unavailable or subject to limits.

Students should always verify academic information before using it in examinations or practical assessments.

📚 What I Learned

Building VivaSloth AI helped me gain practical experience in combining web development with AI-powered functionality.

I explored how to connect a Python backend to a browser-based interface and use an external AI service for task-specific assistance.

I also learned that creating a useful AI application involves more than connecting an API.

A good AI application needs:

A clear problem to solve.

An easy-to-understand interface.

Well-organized workflows.

Useful AI prompts.

Reliable error handling.

Responsible treatment of user data.

Honest communication about limitations.

Most importantly, this project helped me understand how AI can support education by reducing repetitive preparation work while keeping the student responsible for learning.

🎯 Final Thought

Less stress. Better preparation. Smarter studying. 🦥

I built VivaSloth AI to explore how AI can help engineering students organize their work, prepare for examinations, and learn at a comfortable pace.

The aim is not to make students dependent on AI.

The aim is to make study preparation easier so students can focus on understanding concepts, practicing skills, and building confidence.

VivaSloth AI — Study Smart, Stay Calm.

I welcome feedback, suggestions, and contributions from the open-source community!

This is my submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle.

💡 What I Built

Freelancers often receive project briefs that look simple at first but contain missing requirements, unclear expectations, and hidden risks.

These problems can lead to misunderstandings, unexpected extra work, and difficulty estimating project scope.

ScopeSaathi AI is an AI-powered assistant designed to help freelancers understand client project briefs before starting work.

It analyzes a project brief, highlights potentially missing requirements, identifies possible risks, and helps freelancers prepare professional follow-up questions for clients.

The goal is to help freelancers communicate clearly, define project boundaries, and approach client projects with greater confidence.

✨ Key Features

📝 Project Brief Analysis: Review client requirements and organize the important details.

🔍 Missing Requirements Detection: Highlight information that may need clarification before work begins.

⚠️ Risk Identification: Identify potential scope-related issues, unclear deliverables, and possible misunderstandings.

💬 AI-Generated Follow-Up Questions: Prepare useful questions to ask clients before accepting or starting a project.

📋 Scope Clarity: Help freelancers organize requirements and understand what needs further discussion.

🌐 Web-Based Access: Use the application through a browser without setting up the complete development environment locally.

The AI provides suggestions for review. Freelancers should verify the results and confirm requirements directly with their clients.

The central idea is simple: Understand the scope before you start the work.

🎬 Project Demo

🌐 Live Website: https://scopesaathi-ai.onrender.com

🎥 Video Demo:
https://www.image2url.com/r2/default/videos/1792327007456-62dbc0b3-948f-43f2-a7f4-664188347139.mp4

The demo video showcases the interface and explains how ScopeSaathi AI is intended to help freelancers analyze project briefs and prepare for client discussions.

💻 Source Code

GitHub Repository:
https://github.com/tanmaydave2007-netizen/scopesaathi-ai

The project is publicly available on GitHub for developers who want to explore the implementation, learn from the code, or contribute improvements.

🛠️ How I Built It

ScopeSaathi AI uses a web-based application architecture with a Python backend and a browser-based interface.

The project includes:

Python: Backend application logic.

HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: User interface and interactions.

OpenRouter API: Connects the application to a selected AI model.

Render: Hosts the deployed web application.

Git and GitHub: Version control and public source-code hosting.

The application is designed to turn unstructured client briefs into useful, organized information that freelancers can review before beginning a project.

🔓 Why Open Innovation Matters

Open innovation gives developers an opportunity to experiment with AI technologies, learn from existing tools, and build practical solutions for real-world problems.

For ScopeSaathi AI, AI is not included just to generate text. It is used for a specific purpose: helping freelancers understand project requirements and prepare for better client conversations.

Practical AI for Freelancers

AI can help organize lengthy project descriptions, highlight unclear requirements, and suggest questions that might otherwise be overlooked.

Accessible Development

Using hosted AI inference makes it possible to experiment with AI-powered applications without requiring a powerful local GPU or downloading large model files.

Flexible AI Integration

The application can be adapted to different supported models and prompts as the project evolves, subject to provider availability and model licences.

Learning Through Building

This project helped me explore how a web application, backend logic, an external AI service, and cloud deployment can work together to solve a practical problem.

Hosted AI inference requires an internet connection and may be subject to provider limits. Open-weight models, API access, and deployment infrastructure can also have different licensing and privacy requirements.

🌍 How It Supports the Side Hustle Theme

Freelancing can be a way to turn technical skills into a source of income. However, delivering good work is only one part of freelancing. Understanding client expectations is equally important.

ScopeSaathi AI is designed to support a simple workflow:

Enter or paste a client's project brief.

Analyze the stated requirements.

Review missing details and potential scope risks.

Generate follow-up questions.

Discuss unclear points with the client before starting work.

By helping freelancers prepare for these conversations, the project aims to reduce avoidable confusion and support more professional project planning.

ScopeSaathi AI does not guarantee freelance income or replace the freelancer's judgment. It is a tool to support better decisions.

🚧 Current Limitations and Next Steps

ScopeSaathi AI is an evolving project, and its results need to be tested against different types of real-world project briefs.

My next steps include:

Testing the analysis workflow with different freelance project categories.

Improving the accuracy and usefulness of missing-requirement detection.

Making AI-generated follow-up questions more specific to each project.

Improving error handling when the AI provider is unavailable.

Testing the deployed application across desktop and mobile browsers.

Improving the interface and project documentation.

Exploring additional ways to help freelancers prepare clearer project scopes.

📚 What I Learned

Building ScopeSaathi AI gave me practical experience in connecting a web application to an AI service and deploying the application online.

It also helped me understand that useful AI applications need more than a model connection. Clear interfaces, reliable error handling, thoughtful prompts, privacy, and honest communication about limitations are all important.

Most importantly, I explored how AI can be applied to a practical problem faced by freelancers rather than being used only as a general-purpose chatbot.

🎯 Final Thought

Clear scope. Better conversations. Smarter freelancing.

I built ScopeSaathi AI to explore how AI can help freelancers understand client requirements and approach projects with greater clarity.

I welcome feedback, suggestions, and contributions from the open-source community!

This is my submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 1: Touch Grass.

 🌱 What I Built

What if technology could help us spend less time on our screens and more time enjoying the outdoors?

That is the idea behind Touch Grass Outdoor Guide, a web application designed to help people plan simple outdoor activities and reconnect with nature.

The project brings together weather information, nearby green spaces, AI-assisted outing plans, nature-based activities, and progress tracking in one place.

Instead of encouraging people to spend more time browsing, the goal is to make planning easier so they can put their phones away and enjoy the real world.

The main features include:

🌤️ Weather and Air Quality: View current weather conditions, air-quality information, and a seven-day forecast when the connected services are available.

🗺️ Nearby Parks and Gardens: Explore nearby green spaces using map-based discovery.

🥾 Smart Outdoor Planner: Create a personalized outing plan based on preferences such as activity, duration, mood, and fitness level.

🎒 Packing Checklist: Get suggested items to take along on an outdoor activity.

🛡️ Safety Reminders: View basic reminders to help prepare for an outing.

📵 Screen-Free Challenge: Encourage yourself to spend less time on your phone during outdoor activities.

🌿 Nature Bingo: Turn outdoor exploration into a simple activity by noticing and discovering things around you.

🏆 My Progress: Track outing history, points, achievements, and personal goals in the browser.

The Outdoor Score is a simple planning indicator based on available information. It is not an official weather warning or a guarantee that a location is safe.

The central idea is simple:

Plan less. Go outside more. Notice the world around you.

 🎬 Project Demo

🌐 Live Website:

https://touch-grass-outdoor-guide.onrender.com/

🎥 Video Demo:

https://www.image2url.com/r2/default/videos/1791722093710-c0de9100-a1d8-428e-8a81-a45cc1f09998.mp4

The video demonstrates the application's interface and main features. Some features depend on external services, so the walkthrough should not be treated as proof that every live API is currently working.

 💻 Source Code

GitHub Repository:

https://github.com/tanmaydave2007-netizen/touch-grass-outdoor-guide

The repository contains the application source code and setup instructions for running the project locally.

 🛠️ How I Built It

I built Touch Grass Outdoor Guide using a Python-based backend and a web frontend.

The main technologies include:

Python and Flask: Handle server-side functionality and application routes.

HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: Build the user interface and interactive features.

Chart.js: Display forecast and progress visualizations.

Leaflet: Display interactive maps.

OpenStreetMap: Provide community-maintained map and green-space data.

Open-Meteo: Provide geocoding, weather, and air-quality data.

OpenRouter: Connect the application to a selected AI model for outing-plan generation.

Browser Local Storage: Keep progress and outing information in the user's browser.

 Open-Weight AI Integration

The application supports connecting an AI model through OpenRouter's chat-completions API.

One intended model option is Gemma 4 26B A4B Instruct, with the model ID:

google/gemma-4-26b-a4b-it:free

Model availability may change, and the exact model should be confirmed from a successful response before claiming that it generated a particular plan.

The AI planner is designed to turn user preferences and available context into a practical outdoor plan with suggested steps, a checklist, and reminders.

When no API key is configured, the application can display a clearly labelled demo plan. That fallback is a local template, not an AI-generated response.

This implementation uses hosted inference through OpenRouter. The model weights are not downloaded or run locally by this application.

🔓 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

For me, open innovation means having more flexibility to learn, experiment, and build useful applications using AI technologies.

 1. Flexibility to Experiment

An open-weight model gives developers more opportunities to explore different model choices, adjust prompts, and adapt a solution to a specific use case.

For this project, the goal is to use AI for practical outdoor planning rather than just generating general-purpose text.

 2. More Control Over the Application

A model-connected application can be designed around a specific task, with structured outputs such as activities, checklists, and reminders.

The application can also be adapted as different models and tools become available, subject to their technical requirements and licences.

 3. Experiment Without Running Large Models Locally

I chose hosted inference because it allows me to experiment without downloading large model weights or requiring a powerful GPU on my own computer.

However, hosted inference still requires an internet connection and may be subject to provider availability, usage limits, or costs.

 4. Honest About Privacy and Limitations

Open-weight AI does not automatically mean that an application is offline or completely private.

In this project, prompts sent through OpenRouter may be processed by OpenRouter and the selected model provider. Users should avoid including sensitive personal information.

I want to understand not just how to connect an AI model, but also how the model is accessed, what information is sent, and what limitations come with that approach.

🌍 How It Fits the Touch Grass Theme

The purpose of this application is to make technology a starting point for an outdoor experience, rather than the main activity.

The intended workflow is straightforward:

Check the available weather information.

Explore nearby parks or green spaces.

Create a plan for a short outdoor activity.

Use the checklist to prepare for the outing.

Step outside, observe nature, and spend less time looking at the screen.

Record progress and plan another outdoor activity.

The app combines planning tools with small nature-based activities to make getting outside feel more approachable.

🚧 Current Limitations and Next Steps

Touch Grass Outdoor Guide is a working prototype, and some parts still need testing and improvement.

The public deployment is available, but the live weather endpoint is currently returning an error in my tests. I am investigating the connection to the external weather services.

My next steps are to:

Fix and verify the public weather and air-quality requests.

Test the complete AI-planning workflow using the exact selected model.

Improve error handling when external services are unavailable.

Test nearby-park discovery with different locations.

Verify that the application works consistently across desktop and mobile browsers.

Improve the setup instructions so other developers can run the project more easily.

Take the application on a real outdoor walk and document what works and what needs improvement.

I have not included any unverified outdoor field-test results or claimed that all public features are working reliably.

 💡 What I Learned

Building this project has helped me understand how different technologies work together in a web application.

I have explored how Python and Flask can connect frontend interactions to backend services, how external APIs can provide weather and map data, and how an AI model can be integrated into a practical planning workflow.

I also learned that connecting an AI model is only one part of building a useful application. Reliability, privacy, user experience, error handling, and honest communication about limitations matter too.

The most important lesson is that AI should help people do something meaningful in the real world—not simply keep them engaged with another screen.

 🌿 Final Thought

Less scrolling. More exploring. More time in nature.

I built Touch Grass Outdoor Guide as a step toward making outdoor activities easier to plan and encouraging people to reconnect with the world around them.

Feedback, suggestions, and contributions are welcome!
