Most people keep one CV and send it to every job. It is quick, but it often means the CV does not match the wording of the job post, and that can hurt you with both recruiters and applicant tracking systems (ATS). Here is a simple routine for tailoring one master CV to each role without starting over.

Disclosure: I work on MyEasyCV, an AI CV builder, and I mention it at the end. The steps below work with any tool, including a plain document.

 1. Keep one master CV

Write a long version of your CV that includes every job, project, skill and result you can think of. You will never send this version. It is the source you copy from, so you do not have to remember details each time.

 2. Read the job post for keywords

Underline the skills, tools and responsibilities that appear more than once. If the post says "stakeholder reporting" and your CV says "made updates for managers", use their wording, but only where it is true.

 3. Reorder, do not invent

Move the most relevant experience to the top and cut what does not help for this role. Do not add skills you do not have. A CV that gets you an interview you cannot handle helps nobody.

 4. Keep the layout ATS-friendly

Many ATS tools read your CV as plain text. A few habits help:

Use a clear single-column layout and standard headings such as Experience, Education and Skills.

Avoid putting key information inside images, text boxes or tables.

Save as PDF unless the employer asks for another format.

 5. Check the result

Read the job post and your CV side by side. Does the first third of the CV answer what the post asks for? If not, adjust the summary and the top bullet points.

 Tools that can help

You can do all of this in a word processor. If you would rather not manage versions by hand, MyEasyCV is one option. It can create a CV from scratch, translate an existing CV into 50+ languages, refresh an old CV, or tailor it to a specific job. It has 25 ATS-friendly templates, PDF download and a free ATS check. Your first CV is free and no card is required: https://myeasycv.com

If you have your own routine for tailoring a CV, I would like to hear it in the comments.
