Introduction

Terraform is powerful, but writing and maintaining it for every deployment takes time. If you're a developer who wants to ship apps on Google Cloud without fighting IaC boilerplate, RAD is for you.

RAD (Rapid Application Deployment) is an open-source Terraform marketplace (MPL 2.0) that packages production-grade infrastructure into reusable modules. Pick a module, configure a few variables, and RAD deploys your app onto GCP with security, scaling, and cost controls already baked in.

In this guide, I'll walk through deploying a production-ready app using RAD — no Terraform coding required.

 Prerequisites

A Google Cloud account with billing enabled

The
gcloud
CLI installed and authenticated

Basic familiarity with cloud concepts (optional but helpful)

Step 1: Browse the Module Marketplace

Go to radmodules.dev and browse available modules. Each module is a pre‑built Terraform configuration that deploys a specific application stack (e.g., a web app with a database, an API server, a CMS, etc.).

Popular modules include:

WordPress on Cloud Run

Next.js with Cloud SQL

FastAPI with Cloud Run and Redis

Click on a module to see its description, requirements, and deployment details.

 Step 2: Configure Your Deployment

Once you select a module, you'll be prompted to enter configuration values. This is the only manual setup you need. Typical parameters include:

Project ID – your GCP project

Region – where to deploy

App name – used for resource naming

Domain (optional) – if you want a custom URL

RAD handles the rest: Cloud Run Gen2, Cloud SQL instances, Secret Manager entries, VPC, WAF rules, and more.

 Step 3: Deploy

Click the Deploy button. RAD runs a Terraform plan, shows you the resources it will create, and asks for confirmation. Confirm, and RAD begins deploying.

The process typically takes 2–5 minutes. You can watch the deployment logs in real time.

Step 4: Tour Your Live App

After deployment, RAD provides you with the app's URL. Open it in your browser. Your app is live, HTTPS‑enabled, and protected by a Web Application Firewall.

RAD also creates a secrets manager entry for database credentials, enables Cloud SQL SSL, and sets up IAM least‑privilege roles — all automatically.

 What Makes RAD Different?

Zero-trust security by default – every resource is locked down, secrets encrypted, and traffic inspected.

FinOps controls – Cloud Run services scale to zero when idle, so you pay nothing for unused compute.

SRE readiness – health checks, logging, monitoring, and automatic rollbacks are included.

No licensing cost – RAD is free and open‑source. You only pay standard GCP rates for the infrastructure.

 Next Steps

Explore the RAD documentation to learn about custom modules.

If you're studying for GCP certifications, use RAD to spin up real infrastructure for hands‑on labs.

Want to earn? Publish your own module and receive revenue share.

 Conclusion

RAD takes the complexity out of deploying production apps on GCP. You get security, cost control, and reliability without writing Terraform. Try it now: https://radmodules.dev?utm_source=devto&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=evergreen
