Why Do Egg Prices Change So Much From One Indian City to Another?

If you buy eggs regularly you may have noticed something interesting.

The price of an egg can be different from one city to another even on the same day.

At first it seems strange. Eggs are the same basic product. So why does the price change?

The main reason is the way the egg supply chain works.

Eggs move from poultry farms to wholesale markets and then to local retailers. Transport costs can affect the final price. Local demand also matters. A city with stronger demand can see different prices from a market that is closer to a major production area.

The wholesale rate and the price paid by consumers are also not always the same.

This is why I think it is useful to look at more than just one number when checking egg prices.

For example you can compare the NECC rate with wholesale and retail prices. You can also look at tray prices or calculate the expected cost for a larger quantity.

Another interesting point is how quickly the market can change. Feed costs supply levels transportation demand and seasonal buying can all influence the market.

I recently started paying more attention to these differences because it gives a much clearer picture of what is actually happening in the Indian egg market.

For anyone who regularly buys eggs or follows poultry markets it is worth keeping an eye on daily prices instead of relying only on an old rate.

I found it useful to visit the site and compare the latest egg rates across different Indian markets before making any assumptions about the local price.

What factors do you notice affecting egg prices most in your city?
