This is a summary of a full tokenomics audit our desk published on 13 October 2026. The method is economic triage from public data only — on-chain reads, holder distribution, supply mechanics — no contract code review, no price prediction, no financial advice. Morpho (MORPHO, on Base) came back with the harshest grade in our nine-audit public portfolio: Fragile, red-flag score 74.5/100 (High). Here is what the data showed, and just as important, what it could not show.

 The snapshot (13 October 2026)

Measure

Value

Total supply

1,000,000,000 MORPHO

Circulating supply

700,535,346 (70.0%)

Max supply

1,000,000,000

Holders on Base

167,821

Top 1 holder share

49.6% of total supply

Top 10 holder share

81.1% of total supply

DEX liquidity (all pairs)

$2,990,417

Contract owner

Live address present

Sources: CoinGecko (market/supply), chain RPC (on-chain reads), Blockscout (holders), DEXScreener (liquidity/volume), DefiLlama (fees). Figures are a snapshot of that date; tokenomics change, so re-check before acting on any of them.

 Finding 1 — CRITICAL: one wallet, 49.6%

The single largest holder controls 49.6% of total supply (measured precisely: 49.55%). A position that size can move the market unilaterally. One honesty note the full report carries and this summary keeps: the figure is raw on-chain data. The wallet may be a contract, an exchange wallet, or a vesting vault — wallet labels are not something the engine can read, and we mark them UNKNOWN rather than guess. The concentration risk exists regardless of who the wallet turns out to be; what changes with the label is the intent you would attribute to it, and intent is not in the data.

 Finding 2 — HIGH: the top 10 hold 81.1%

Concentration does not stop at the first wallet. The top ten holders together control 81.1% of total supply (81.14% measured). Against that, DEX liquidity across all pairs was $2,990,417 at audit time — a thin cushion under a very top-heavy holder base. For comparison inside the same report, peer FDVs were $2,584,652,587 (Aave) and $230,685,664 (Compound), with circulating ratios of 96.5% and 100% — Morpho's 70.0% circulating ratio leaves materially more supply overhang than either peer.

Finding 3 — MEDIUM: a live contract owner

The MORPHO contract has a live owner address, which means privileged functions may exist. Our engine does not audit code, so what that owner can actually do is UNKNOWN beyond the owner read itself. A live owner is not automatically a defect — many legitimate contracts have one — but it is a standing question any holder should want answered from the project's own documentation and code, not from an audit like ours.

What the data could not tell us

Three checkpoints came back UNKNOWN, and we publish them as unknowns instead of filling them in:

Unlock schedule. Morpho is not tracked by DefiLlama emissions and no machine-readable vesting schedule was available. What we can say arithmetically: 70% of supply circulates and 30% is locked or unissued, so future unlock pressure exists even where the calendar is unpublished.

Insider allocation. The percentage originally allocated to insiders requires the project's published allocation documents — a manual checkpoint, not an on-chain read.

Value accrual to holders. The protocol charges real fees (annualized at $279,093,965 from the 24h figure at audit time; fees/FDV = 11.74%). Whether any of that value reaches token holders — buyback, burn, revenue share — is UNKNOWN without the project's docs.

 What would change the grade

The Fragile grade is driven by measured concentration, not by the unknowns. It would improve if the top-holder wallet were publicly identified as a vesting or bridge contract with a published schedule, if holder concentration measurably declined, or if a verifiable unlock calendar replaced the current evidence gap. It would worsen if the live owner's powers turned out to include supply changes. Grades are re-issued when the underlying data moves; a grade is a dated measurement, not a verdict on the team.

The full report — methodology, limitations, and the complete findings table — is the canonical version of this audit: Tokenomics Audit — Morpho.
