How I read a 7-inch truck sat nav

I look after a 7-inch truck sat nav, and I start with the label before I trust a route.

The screen is a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen at 800 by 480. The unit has 8GB of flash and 256MB of DDR3, and it runs Windows CE 6.0. Power comes from the vehicle cigarette lighter at DC 12V to 24V. The case is 175 by 108 by 15 mm. The ports are Mini-USB and a MicroSD slot that takes a card up to 32GB. The marks on the unit are UKCA, CE and RoHS.

The routing takes the vehicle height, width, length and weight, and it is built to avoid low bridges, weight-restricted zones and narrow streets. On the road I use the voice prompts, lane guidance, turn alerts and speed awareness. The touchscreen is sunlight-readable, which is what I need in a cab.

These notes live on trucknav.co.uk.
