How do you make something original when starting out?

For years I fell into tutorial hell where I had made about 20 Todo Apps, over a hundred "hello world"'s, and my fair share of e-commerce sites filled with a myriad of garments no one would ever buy (compliments of the creepy instructor, of course).

After pussyfooting around in that arena for a while I decided I was finally going to try something original from beginning to end. The thing I was/am passionate about is movies. And not only movies but also the way they're received by critics. So I began to build this movie rating aggregator that would show the Rotten Tomatoes rating, the IMDb rating and also the Metacritic score right when you clicked the movie. At the time I had to go to three different sites to gather that information so I felt my idea solved a problem.

Unbeknownst to me, within a few mere months, I saw the exact same idea being touted around Reddit and the works. The name of the original was Cinesift and later renamed to FlickMetrix. I was crushed. Not only did they have my general functionality implemented but they were doing it much better. Features I hadn't thought of and an extraordinarily slick UI to top it off.

This is the pattern I am asking for everyone's help in breaking for up and comers. I browse Product Hunt and once a week or so I see another journal/todo/goals app get featured but don't we want more?

How to Gain Social Media following simply from being a dev?

So I have been a developer for a few years now but cannot seem to figure out how to grow a social media following.

I see devs out there with similar or fewer credentials than myself with hundreds or even thousands of followers.

So I guess my question is: how do I gain more followers on my personal dev twitter account?

How do you organize all the keyboard shortcuts you've acquired over your career?

‪I'd like to hear how people have coped with the situation of running out of space on your keyboard due to the copious amounts of keyboard shortcuts you have programmed. Plus, the issue of a shortcut conflict when an app is open in the background with the same shortcut keys that you're trying to use but instead are only wreaking havoc on your other app.

It's also the concept that I've truly exhausted all the easy ways to use/remember the shortcuts I need everyday only to have another piece of software come into my life and I gotta figure out where I can harbor this New Key on the Block. So my question truly is: after you've used up all the standard Modifier + letters shortcuts and your pinky has grown an extra half inch for reaching all the way to the numbers row while still holding CMD + Opt with the same hand for the last month what do people do to accommodate this issue?

Pinia is now the new default

The official state management library for Vue has changed to Pinia. Pinia has almost the exact same or enhanced API as Vuex 5, described in Vuex 5 RFC. You could simply consider Pinia as Vuex 5 with a different name. Pinia also works with Vue 2.x as well.

Vuex 3 and 4 will still be maintained. However, it's unlikely to add new functionalities to it. Vuex and Pinia can be installed in the same project. If you're migrating existing Vuex app to Pinia, it might be a suitable option. However, if you're planning to start a new project, we highly recommend using Pinia instead.

iOS App Development is a Nightmare

Pretty much every dev tool used in the development of native iOS apps has caused me issues in the past. Even just downloading an open-source app from Github and trying to build and run it is a nightmare. Xcode is probably the most expansive IDE around but makes it difficult to complete even the most basic tasks without having to solve a nondescript compile error in the process.

Language

When I first started programming I had goals of becoming an iOS developer. This was when Swift was still a fledging language which meant that most existing codebases, tutorials, and documentation of the time we're migrating from Objective-C, or worse, using both languages in conjunction. This led to an astounding amount of confusion and frustration. So many errors and warnings telling you to convert to a certain Swift version only to find out that the CocoaPods package that the app depends on isn't compatible.

Code Signing

By far the most anxiety-inducing, ass-backward hurdle to overcome when trying to run an app is the code signing and provisioning process. Without being enrolled in the Apple Developer Program it is monumentally difficult to configure and run an application with any advanced app capabilities. Even with the proper certificates you will more than likely experience issues with the bundle identifier not matching your provisioning profile, certificates being revoked for seemingly no reason at all, and the neverending struggle of code signing apps that you're collaborating on with multiple devs.

Documentation

What makes all of this worse is the fact that Apple's Developer Documentation is atrocious. The documentation for many of the core concepts needed for programming for iOS has been relegated to the shadow realm aka the documentation archive making it near impossible to find. When you do find what you're looking for, chances are that the page hasn't been updated in years and the information you're seeking is only documented in a release note that you'll never find. Worse even are the topics only explained in a WWDC video causing me to comb through pages of video transcript to find the one instance where someone sheds light on the issue you've been having.
