The median salary for a remote senior Elixir developer in the US sits at roughly $156,000 per year. That figure comes from 189 real remote Elixir job listings posted on HexHire between March 1 and April 28, 2026. It is about $7,000 lower than the winter 2026 number (~$163,000), though the shift likely reflects sample composition rather than a real market decline.

This is a follow-up to the winter 2026 salary report, running the same analysis on two more months of data. The breakdown by seniority, region, and company is below.

 At a glance

 What the data covers

Between March 1 and April 28, 2026, HexHire listed 189 remote Elixir jobs. Of those, 38 had usable salary information after cleaning. That puts usable salary coverage at about 20%, almost unchanged from the winter dataset, which means roughly 4 out of 5 listings still lacked usable compensation data.

After excluding non-developer roles, deduplicating reposts, and fixing mistagged salary periods, 38 clean data points remained.

 US salary ranges by seniority

All figures are annual USD for remote roles targeting US-based candidates.

 Mid-Level

Three listings. Piper Companies posted a Backend Elixir Developer at $100,000 to $135,000, and an earlier Software Engineer (Elixir) was still active at $100,000 to $125,000. Level All listed a Software Engineer (Elixir) in New York at $120,000 to $140,000.

 Senior

The largest bucket, with ten listings.

PAR Technology: Senior Software Engineer, Elixir at $170,000 to $190,000

Chromatic: Backend Engineer, Elixir at $167,000 to $218,000

Jump (Advisor AI): Senior SE (APIs/integrations) at $150,000 to $260,000 (widest band in the group)

River Financial: Senior SE (React, Full-stack) at $150,000 to $220,000

Rise8: Cleared Senior SE at $138,826 to $173,533

Intellispark: Senior SE (Elixir Focus) at $135,000 to $165,000

SmartRent: Senior Embedded SE at $130,000 to $175,000

ALLUVIUM HEALTH: Elixir SE at $107,000 to $142,000

Red Ventures: Senior SE, Elixir at $100,000 to $160,000

The median midpoint across all 10 senior listings is approximately $156,000. The typical band clusters between $135,000 and $175,000, slightly lower and wider than winter's $150,000 to $175,000 concentration.

 Staff and Lead

Four listings.

River Financial: Staff SE (ML/AI, Full-stack) at $200,000 to $250,000

Brillian: Senior/Staff SE, Full Stack at $200,000 to $240,000

Luna Physical Therapy: Staff SE at $180,000 to $225,000

RightBack: Lead DevOps and Elixir Engineer at $100,000 to $150,000 (Austin)

 Manager and Director

Three listings.

X-Team: Engineering Manager (AI) at $195,000 to $215,000

The RealReal: Engineering Manager at $194,499 to $216,109

iSeatz: Engineering Manager at $145,000 to $182,000

 European salaries

Numbers run lower than US figures in absolute terms. USD conversions use approximate spring 2026 exchange rates (GBP 1 = USD 1.26, EUR 1 = USD 1.10).

€60k-€75k

~$66k-$83k

Spain (Senior)

E-Frontiers

€40k-€50k

~$44k-$55k

Spain (Junior)

Bizneo HR

€25k-€35k

~$28k-$39k

Italy (Senior)

coders51

€38k-€45k

~$42k-$50k

Italy (Mid)

coders51

€35k-€38k

~$39k-$42k

The UK led this period. Client Server in Cambridge posted a Lead Software Engineer (SaaS, Python/Rust/Elixir) at £95,000 to £115,000. Sona listed a Senior Software Engineer (Elixir) at £85,000 to £105,000 for UK/Europe.

France made its first appearance in our salary tracking, with Riot offering a wide €45,000 to €100,000 band for a hybrid-remote Paris role. Italy and Spain remain at the lower end.

 Global remote rates

Several companies posted location-adjusted worldwide bands.

Remote (remote.com): $80k-$120k for US-based candidates; other worldwide listings at $53.3k-$119.85k

Referral Jobs: Engineering Team Leader at $75.4k-$169.7k worldwide

Novus Recruitment: Senior SE for remote Australia at AUD 150k+ (~$97k+ USD)

AllianceIT: Java/Elixir/React in Mexico at $38-$40/hr (~$79k-$83k annualized)

 What changed since winter 2026

Metric

Winter 2026

March-April 2026

Remote listings

216

189

Clean data points used

44 (20%)

38 (20%)

US senior median

~$163,000

~$156,000

Highest ceiling

$323,000 (GoodRx)

$260,000 (Jump)

Total listings dipped from 216 to 189, while usable salary coverage held near 20%. The US senior median fell about $7,000, from ~$163,000 to ~$156,000. This looks more like sample noise than a real pay cut, since the two periods have different companies posting. GoodRx, which had the $323,000 ceiling last time, did not post new Elixir roles in this window.

River Financial remains the most consistent high-paying Elixir employer across both periods, still posting Staff roles at $200k-$250k. New entrants include PAR Technology ($170k-$190k), Chromatic ($167k-$218k), and Brillian ($200k-$240k). Companies like Whatnot, Glia, and Supabase appeared in the listings but did not disclose salary data.

 Five things that stand out

Usable salary data remains scarce. Only 20% of remote Elixir listings in March-April included usable pay data. If you are hiring, publishing a salary range still gives you a real edge.

The senior band widened. Winter's typical range was $150,000 to $175,000. This period it stretched to $135,000 to $175,000, pulled down by a few listings in the $100,000 to $135,000 range.

Staff-level pay holds steady. Three of four staff/lead listings came in above $180,000. River Financial and Brillian both posted at $200,000+.

UK salaries climbed. Client Server's £95,000 to £115,000 and Sona's £85,000 to £105,000 both sit above what UK employers offered in winter.

Junior listings are almost nonexistent. Zero new junior-level US listings in this period. The only junior posting was Bizneo HR in Spain (€25,000 to €35,000), carried over from the prior window. Two reports in a row with the same pattern.

 FAQ

What is the median salary for a remote senior Elixir developer in 2026?

Based on 10 senior-level US remote listings from March through April 2026, the median salary is approximately $156,000 per year. The full range spans $100,000 to $260,000, with most listings between $135,000 and $175,000.

Which companies pay the most for Elixir developers?

In this period, Jump (Advisor AI) had the highest ceiling at $260,000. River Financial posted staff roles at $200,000 to $250,000. Brillian offered $200,000 to $240,000, and PAR Technology posted a senior role at $170,000 to $190,000.

How do Elixir salaries in Europe compare to the US in 2026?

European Elixir salaries are lower in absolute terms. UK senior roles range from £80,000 to £115,000 (~$101,000 to $145,000 USD). Germany and France range from €45,000 to €100,000. Southern Europe (Spain, Italy) ranges from €25,000 to €75,000. Cost of living differences narrow the gap somewhat.

Are Elixir developer salaries going up or down?

The US senior median dropped about $7,000 from ~$163,000 (winter 2026) to ~$156,000 (March-April 2026). This likely reflects different companies posting rather than a market-wide decline. Staff-level pay held steady at $180,000 to $250,000 across both periods.

 Methodology

Job listings posted on HexHire between March 1 and April 28, 2026. All positions on HexHire are remote. From the initial listings with salary data, non-Elixir roles were removed, data entry errors corrected, and reposted listings deduplicated, leaving 38 clean data points. Currency conversions use approximate spring 2026 exchange rates. Hourly and monthly rates are annualized at 2,080 working hours or 12 months respectively.

This is a snapshot of publicly listed positions and does not represent the full Elixir salary landscape.

Full report with every job linked, plus a side-by-side against the winter 2026 numbers, is on hexhire.io.

Seven out of ten Elixir employers won't tell you what they pay. We know because we checked.

Between December 2025 and February 2026, HexHire listed 216 remote Elixir jobs. We went through every one that included salary data, cleaned out the noise, and then went back through the same listings to see what companies said (or didn't say) about benefits. This is what the Elixir job market actually looks like right now, based on real numbers from real postings.

The full breakdowns are published on HexHire: salary data here and benefits data here. This article pulls together the key findings from both.

 What the Data Covers

Out of 216 remote Elixir listings, 62 included salary information. That's a transparency rate of 29%. After removing non-developer roles (recruiters, sales), correcting data entry errors where monthly rates were tagged as yearly, and deduplicating reposts, we had 44 clean data points.

Not a huge sample. But enough to see clear patterns.

 US Salaries by Seniority

All figures are annual USD for remote roles targeting US-based candidates.

Seniority

Full Range

Typical Band

Listings

Junior / Entry

$48,000 - $140,000

$80,000 - $140,000

2

Mid-Level

$100,000 - $140,000

$100,000 - $125,000

3

Senior

$107,000 - $250,000

$150,000 - $175,000

17

Staff / Lead

$135,000 - $323,000

$150,000 - $250,000

5

Director / Manager

$140,000 - $250,000

$155,000 - $225,000

2

The median midpoint for US senior Elixir roles is about $163,000 per year, based on 17 job listings from HexHire. The most common band is $150,000 to $175,000.

The $323,000 ceiling comes from GoodRx's Lead Software Engineer posting. That's the single highest figure in the dataset.

 The Junior Problem

Two junior-level listings in two months of data. That's it. MojoTech posted a Software Engineer role at $80,000 to $140,000, and JobRack listed a Full Stack Developer position at $48,000 to $84,000.

If you're early in your Elixir career, the opportunities exist but they're rare. The market is hiring senior, not junior.

 The Geographic Pay Gap

European Elixir salaries run lower than US figures in absolute terms, though cost-of-living differences close some of the gap.

Country

Range (USD)

Example Company

Germany

$94,000 - $132,000

Gigs

UK

$88,000 - $113,000

Driftrock

Malta

$66,000 - $110,000

BlueLabs

Netherlands

$73,000 - $92,000

Seamly

Poland

$60,000 - $120,000

Fresha, Javelo

Spain (Senior)

$55,000 - $77,000

FCM Digital

Spain (Junior)

$28,000 - $39,000

Bizneo HR

Italy

$44,000 - $55,000

AndromedAI

Germany leads the European pack. Southern Europe sits at the bottom.

The global gap is striking. Bramble listed a Senior Full-stack Elixir Developer for the Philippines at $80,000 to $120,000. That same seniority level commands $150,000 to $220,000 at River in the US. Same language, same remote work, very different pay.

 Contract vs. Full-Time

DockYard offered $80 to $120 per hour for senior Elixir contract work. Array offered $80 to $100 per hour. Annualized at 2,080 hours, those translate to $166,400 to $249,600 and $166,400 to $208,000.

Contract rates land at or above the top of salaried senior roles. That makes sense: contractors cover their own benefits, taxes, and gaps between engagements. If you're comparing a contract offer to a full-time salary, factor in those costs before drawing conclusions.

 Benefits: What Companies Actually Offer

Salary is only part of the picture. Two offers at $160k can look very different once you add up PTO, health coverage, equity, and retirement matching.

We went back to the same 62 job descriptions and pulled out every benefit we could find. The full benefits breakdown is on HexHire.

The short version: 47% of listings said nothing about benefits at all.

Among the 33 that did disclose perks, here's how often each one appeared:

Perk

% of Disclosing Listings

Medical / Health Insurance

76%

Dental Insurance

67%

Vision Insurance

64%

401(k) / Pension

58%

PTO (Defined Days)

39%

Unlimited PTO

33%

Parental Leave

39%

Equity / Stock Options

36%

Learning / Conference Budget

27%

Home Office Stipend

21%

Mental Health Support

15%

Health insurance is the baseline. If a company listed any benefits, it almost always included medical, dental, and vision. After that, 401(k) and some form of PTO were next.

 The Unlimited PTO Reality Check

Eleven companies said "unlimited PTO." Only two of those, GoodRx and Array, also listed concrete holidays and sick days alongside it. That distinction matters. An "unlimited" policy with no specifics often means people take less time off, not more.

Driftrock in the UK had a different approach: 24 days off, increasing by one day each year you stay, capped at 28. That's a retention incentive built into the PTO structure.

 Companies With the Best Packages

GoodRx listed 14 distinct perks in their posting. Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, ESPP, unlimited vacation, 13 holidays, 72 hours sick leave, mental wellness, fertility benefits, parental leave, pet insurance, life insurance, disability coverage. The most detailed package in the dataset.

Array covered 100% of employee health premiums (70% for dependents) and offered a 100% 401(k) match up to 4%, plus a $1,000 desk setup subsidy and $100/month for wifi and phone.

Remote (the company, remote.com) listed flexible PTO, 16 weeks paid parental leave, mental health support, stock options, learning budget, home office budget, IT equipment, and a co-working space budget. Identical package across 5 listings.

 The Equity Black Box

Twelve companies mentioned equity. Most were vague: "stock options" or "significant equity." Only one company in the entire dataset, Truetax, published the actual range: 0.25% to 0.75% alongside a $150k to $220k salary. Without details on vesting, strike prices, or dilution, comparing equity packages is mostly guesswork.

Remote Work Perks (or Lack of Them)

Every listing in this dataset is for a remote position. You'd expect companies to mention remote-specific perks. Seven did. The rest, including companies hiring for fully remote roles at $150k+, said nothing about home office support, equipment, or stipends.

For a remote-first company, not listing a home office budget is a missed signal.

 What This Means for Developers

The senior Elixir market is strong but opaque. Pay is good ($150k to $175k is the center of gravity for US remote roles), but getting clear information out of job listings is harder than it should be.

A few things to keep in mind:

If you're earning below $150k as a senior Elixir developer in the US, the data suggests room to negotiate. The median is $163k and several companies post well above that.

Don't compare offers on salary alone. A $150k offer with 100% health coverage, 401(k) match, and 4 weeks PTO is worth more than a $165k offer that says nothing about benefits. When a company doesn't list perks, ask.

Junior and entry-level roles are scarce. Two listings in two months. If you're early in your career and targeting Elixir, be prepared for a thin market.

Contract work pays a premium ($80 to $120/hr), but you absorb benefits costs, taxes, and downtime between engagements.

What This Means for Hiring Managers

The bar for Elixir job listings is low, and that's an opportunity.

71% of employers hide salary. If you post salary ranges, you stand out by default.

47% say nothing about benefits. GoodRx lists 14 perks in their posting. It costs them nothing extra and tells candidates what they'll get. A detailed benefits section is a free differentiator.

The market skews senior. If you're one of the few companies hiring junior Elixir developers, say so loudly. That's a niche with almost no competition for attention.

 FAQ

What is the average salary for a remote Elixir developer?

For remote senior Elixir developers in the US, the median salary is about $163,000 per year, based on 17 job listings from HexHire. The full range spans from $107,000 to $250,000 depending on company and role.

Are there many junior Elixir jobs available?

Not many. In two months of data (December 2025 through February 2026), only 2 out of 44 salary-disclosing remote Elixir listings targeted junior or entry-level developers. The market leans heavily toward senior hires.

How do Elixir salaries in Europe compare to the US?

European salaries are lower in absolute terms. Senior Elixir roles in Germany offer roughly $94,000 to $132,000 USD. The UK ranges from $88,000 to $113,000 USD. Spain and Italy range from $44,000 to $77,000 USD. Cost-of-living differences partially close this gap.

Do most Elixir job listings include salary and benefits information?

No. Only 29% of 216 remote Elixir listings included salary data. Of the 62 that did, 47% listed no benefits information at all. Transparency is the exception, not the norm.

This article is based on data from HexHire.io, a remote Elixir job board. For the full analysis, read the salary breakdown and benefits breakdown. Data covers December 6, 2025 through February 6, 2026. Currency conversions use early-2026 exchange rates.

Where to Find Elixir Jobs in 2025

Elixir job opportunities are still relatively niche compared to more mainstream programming languages. In 2025, Elixir roles tend to be spread across community forums, company career pages, and a handful of job boards — which makes them harder to discover if you don’t know where to look.

This guide breaks down the best places to find Elixir jobs in 2025, based on where companies actually post them.

Elixir Community Job Boards and Threads

Many companies hiring Elixir developers prefer to post directly in Elixir-focused communities.

 Elixir Forum

The Elixir Forum frequently hosts hiring discussions and “Who’s hiring?” threads. These posts often come from teams already using Elixir and Phoenix in production.

 Reddit (r/elixir)

The r/elixir subreddit runs monthly hiring threads. While the volume of Elixir job postings is limited, the roles shared there are usually relevant and up to date.

 Slack and Discord Communities

Several Elixir Slack workspaces and Discord servers maintain job channels where companies share open Elixir roles, often before posting them publicly elsewhere.

Finding Elixir Jobs on General Job Boards

General job boards can still be useful when searched intentionally.

 LinkedIn

Searching for “Elixir developer”, “Phoenix framework”, or “BEAM” yields better results than generic backend titles. Following companies known to use Elixir can surface roles early.

 Google Jobs

Google Jobs aggregates listings from multiple sources. Filtering by remote roles and recent postings helps uncover Elixir job listings that may otherwise be buried.

 Indeed and Similar Platforms

While these platforms have fewer Elixir-specific roles, they occasionally list backend or distributed systems positions where Elixir is part of the stack.

Company Career Pages Hiring Elixir Developers

Many teams using Elixir prefer to list jobs only on their own websites.

Industries where Elixir adoption is common include:

Fintech and payments

Telecommunications and messaging platforms

Data processing and real-time systems

Developer tools and infrastructure

If you know companies building with Phoenix or LiveView, checking their career pages regularly can be effective.

 Elixir Job Aggregators

Because Elixir job postings are fragmented across many platforms, some developers rely on aggregators that collect Elixir jobs from multiple sources. These services monitor forums, job boards, and company websites to surface Elixir job listings in one place.

There are also Elixir-specific job sites like Elixir Jobs or Elixir Radar. Because the Elixir job market is relatively small, these sites typically feature a limited number of listings and may not always include the most up-to-date openings.

For example, Hexhire aggregates Elixir jobs from across the ecosystem, making it easier to track new opportunities without manually checking dozens of sites.

How to Improve Your Chances of Getting an Elixir Job

Beyond job boards, visibility in the Elixir ecosystem can make a meaningful difference.

Follow Elixir companies and maintainers on X (Twitter)

Watch GitHub organizations actively using Elixir

Contribute to open-source Elixir projects

Participate in community discussions and forums

In a smaller ecosystem, engagement often matters as much as applications.

 Conclusion

Finding Elixir jobs in 2025 is less about using a single platform and more about understanding where the community and companies actually post roles. Combining community threads, targeted job board searches, company career pages, and Elixir job aggregators gives you the best coverage.

If you know other places where Elixir jobs are posted regularly, feel free to share them — keeping this information current helps the entire Elixir community.
