The cloud is no longer just a trend; it is the industry standard. To keep pace with the tech landscape, I decided to earn the Google Cloud Certified - Associate Cloud Engineer (ACE) credential. Here is how I navigated the process, the resources I used, and how I stayed on track.

 Get Certified Program 2025

My journey officially kicked off when I was accepted into the Get Certified Program 2025. This is a guided, intensive 6-week program designed to prepare technical practitioners for high-demand Google Cloud certifications through Instructor-Led Training (ILT) and structured milestones.

We all know that certifications are more than just digital badges; they validate technical expertise and are often the key to taking a career to the next level. Being part of a structured program provided the extra push I needed to stay committed.

As part of the program, we were granted free access to Google Cloud Skills Boost, along with 400 free credits to explore the platform. To qualify for the exam voucher, there was a strict requirement: you had to finish at least 5 out of 6 challenge labs to earn the designated skill badges.

Life gets busy, and I'll be honest—I wasn't able to attend the live sessions. However, I didn't let that stop me. I made it a priority to carve out time for the required skills labs. These hands-on labs are essential for learning how to deploy virtual machines, configure networks, and manage Kubernetes clusters in a real environment.

 Overcoming the Challenge

I'll admit, this was the most challenging certification I've taken so far. Unlike my day-to-day work where I'm hands-on with AWS, Google Cloud Platform was relatively new territory for me. The learning curve was real. However, having solid hands-on experience with AWS and understanding core cloud fundamentals and concepts made the transition much easier than it could have been. Cloud principles are largely universal—it's mostly about learning the GCP-specific terminology and tooling. The Qwiklabs platform was incredibly helpful in bridging that gap, offering practical, real-world scenarios that reinforced what I was learning.

 My Study Resources

While the labs provided the "how-to," I needed to refine my knowledge for the actual exam format. Beyond the official Google Cloud documentation, two resources were absolute game-changers for me:

Tutorials Dojo Practice Exams: This was my main study tool. Sir Jon Bonso's practice exams are legendary in the cloud community for a reason. They are challenging, and the detailed explanations for every right and wrong answer helped me identify my weak spots.

ExamPrepper.co: I used this to diversify my study material. Relying on a single source can lead to memorizing specific questions rather than understanding the underlying concepts. Switching to ExamPrepper helped me test my actual knowledge in a different context.

 Takeaways

Earning the Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer certification is about more than just passing a test. It's a commitment to continuous growth and expanding your technical horizons. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and explore technologies beyond what you use daily. The skills you gain from venturing into unfamiliar platforms will make you a more versatile, adaptable, and valuable cloud professional in an ever-evolving industry.

Next up on my list: Microsoft Azure. Here's to becoming truly multi-cloud certified and mastering the full spectrum of cloud platforms!

How I Became 2x AWS Certified in Less Than a Month

Getting AWS certified is often seen as something that requires months of preparation, long study hours, and a perfectly clear schedule. In reality, that's not always possible—especially if you're already working, teaching, or involved in multiple projects.

In my case, I earned the two AWS foundational certifications in less than a month, each with very limited preparation time:

AWS Certified AI Practitioner – taken on October 30, with less than 2 weeks of preparation

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner – taken on November 24, with only 1 week of preparation

This wasn't about cramming or relying on luck. It was about strategy, focus, and using the right resources.

The Reality: Limited Time, High Focus

My schedule was packed. Between work, community involvement, and other responsibilities, I didn't have the luxury of long study sessions. Instead of aiming for "perfect coverage," I focused on exam readiness.

The goal wasn't to memorize everything—it was to understand how AWS asks questions and what concepts they prioritize.

The Game-Changer: Tutorials Dojo Practice Exams

If there's one resource that made the biggest difference, it's Tutorials Dojo practice exams.

I didn't just "take" practice exams—I used them as my primary learning tool.

 Step 1: Review Mode

I started with two complete passes through the practice exams in Review Mode.

Here's what that looked like:

I answered each question carefully

I read every explanation, even when my answer was correct

I paid attention to:

Why was the correct answer right

Why were the other options wrong

AWS services that looked similar but had different use cases

This step alone helped me build conceptual clarity instead of surface-level familiarity.

 Step 2: Timed Mode

Once I felt comfortable with the material, I switched to Timed Mode (at least half of the available practice exams—ideally all of them).

Timed Mode helped me:

Get used to exam pressure

Improve my pacing

Learn to spot and eliminate distractors quickly

But here's the crucial part: after every timed exam, I would:

List out every question I got wrong

Review the explanations again

Study the related AWS services or concepts in depth

Treat Timed Mode Like the Real Exam

When taking Timed Mode practice exams, treat them exactly like the real AWS exam.

No distractions

No other browser tabs

No checking notes or documentation

Full focus from start to finish

This helps you build the right exam mindset, improve time management, and reduce anxiety on exam day. Simulating real exam conditions trains you to think clearly under pressure and avoid second-guessing yourself when it matters most.

Step 3: Focus on Weak Areas Only

This is where most people waste time. They restudy everything, even the topics they already know well.

Instead, I focused exclusively on:

Services I kept getting wrong

Scenarios I didn't fully understand

Keywords and patterns that appeared repeatedly in AWS questions

After identifying weak areas, I retook the Timed Mode exams until I consistently scored 90–100%.

This approach made my limited study time much more efficient and ensured I was fully exam-ready before the real test.

 Why This Worked

Practice exams mirror the real thing. They're designed by people who understand how AWS tests. The question structure, the distractors, and the wording—it all matches what you'll see on exam day.

Explanations teach decision-making. It's not about memorizing facts. It's about learning how to think through AWS scenarios.

Reviewing mistakes forces active learning. When you get something wrong and understand why, that knowledge sticks. Way better than passively watching videos.

Timed practice builds confidence. Walking into the exam already comfortable with the format and time pressure is a huge advantage.

Even with just 1–2 weeks of prep, this method ensured I walked into the exam knowing what to expect.

 Final Thoughts

Earning two AWS certifications in less than a month wasn't about having superhuman focus or endless free time.

It was about:

Being realistic about my time constraints

Using high-quality, targeted resources

Learning from my mistakes instead of just consuming content

Studying smart, not long

If you're busy but determined to get AWS certified, this approach can absolutely work for you.

You don't need months of preparation. You don't need to read every piece of AWS documentation.

What you need is consistency, focus, and the right strategy.

The hours you study matter less than how you study them.

My First International Talk: Standing on a Stage I Never Imagined

I've always hated speaking in front of large crowds.

The thought of standing on a stage with eyes fixed on me, the pressure not to mess up, and the fear of being judged—it was enough to make my heart race. Public speaking was never something I imagined for myself.

And yet, here I am.

It still feels surreal to say that I spoke at the first-ever AWS Community Day Hong Kong. Being part of such a historic milestone and sharing my work on an international stage is an honor I will carry with me forever. What makes it even more meaningful is that I was one of only two women speakers at the event. That fact alone reminds me why representation, visibility, and courage matter so much in tech communities.

This was a stage I never imagined standing on. However, sometimes the most meaningful moments come from doing exactly what scares us the most.

Technology with Purpose: TAK and AWS for Disaster Response

During my session, I shared how Team Awareness Kit (TAK) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) can work together to empower first responders and strengthen disaster response and resilience.

This was my third time presenting my work to a large audience, but my first time doing so on a global stage!

This topic is deeply personal and incredibly timely. In recent months, we've witnessed the devastating impact of super typhoons, massive floods, and earthquakes. These events remind us how critical speed, coordination, and real-time situational awareness are during emergencies.

Being able to share this vision and contribute to conversations that can genuinely help save lives was both humbling and empowering.

The Power of Community Beyond Borders

One of the most unforgettable parts of this experience was the people.

What truly moved me was what happened after I stepped off the stage. Some of the attendees approached me, curious and genuinely interested in the work I'd shared. They asked thoughtful questions, shared their own experiences with disaster response, and expressed excitement about the possibilities of TAK and AWS working together. Those conversations reminded me that the real impact happens not just on stage, but in the connections we build afterward.

I also had the privilege of connecting with AWS Heroes and Community Builders from all over the world. Listening to their stories, learning from their journeys, and discovering our shared passion for technology and community reminded me why I love being part of the AWS ecosystem.

Moments like these remind me that community isn't limited by geography. It's built on shared values, curiosity, and the desire to uplift one another.

Gratitude for the People Who Made This Possible

No journey like this is ever taken alone.

My heartfelt thanks go to the A-Team for their support throughout this journey. Especially to Sir Diwa "Wawi" Del Mundo for his trust, guidance, and belief in me.

I am beyond grateful for the mentorship, experience, and learning I've gained at Apper Cloud Labs. The lessons I've learned there have shaped my growth and made it possible for me to reach this milestone in just over a year in the industry.

I also want to sincerely thank Sir Raphael Francis Quisumbing for encouraging me to apply, for guiding me along the way, and for constantly pushing me to step outside my comfort zone.

To the AWS User Group Hong Kong, thank you for the opportunity to share my work and vision.

 Representing Communities That Matter

I'm also incredibly proud to have represented both Apper Cloud Labs and the AWS User Group BuildHers+ Philippines community on an international stage.

Standing there wasn't just about me. It was about showcasing what's possible when communities invest in people, especially women and underrepresented voices in the tech industry.

A Message to Those Who Are Still Afraid

If you're reading this and feeling the same fear I once felt, here's what I want you to know:

If you're hesitating, if you're scared, if you feel like you're not "ready enough"... do it anyway.

Your voice deserves to be heard. Your story is worth sharing. And the community needs what only YOU can bring.

That stage you never imagined? You might find yourself standing on it sooner than you think.

How Three Years in the AWS Community Led Me to the Stage

Three years ago, I walked into AWS Community Day Philippines 2023 as an attendee—curious, eager to learn, and inspired by the stories of builders and innovators around me. Fast forward to 2025, and I found myself standing on that same stage, microphone in hand, sharing my own story about using technology to save lives during disasters.

This is the story of that journey—and why I believe the tech community has the power to transform not just careers, but lives.

 2023: The Beginning

AWS Community Day Philippines 2023

It started with a simple decision: to show up.

AWS Community Day Philippines 2023 was my first-ever AWS community event. Here's the truth: I walked in knowing almost nothing about AWS or cloud computing. I was completely new to this world, unsure if I even belonged there, and honestly a bit intimidated by all the technical conversations happening around me.

I was surrounded by passionate developers, cloud architects, and innovators who spoke about their projects with such energy and purpose. What struck me most wasn't just their technical expertise. People took the time to explain concepts, answer questions, and encourage beginners like me.

The sessions weren't just about technology. They were about solving real problems, building meaningful solutions, and empowering others along the way. I saw a community that welcomed learning, embraced curiosity, and celebrated growth at every level.

That day, I didn't just discover AWS—I discovered what a true tech community feels like. A place where you can be a beginner, ask questions, and still belong.

First time Meeting Sir Jon Bonso of Tutorials Dojo

It was also the first time I met many of the people who would later become my collaborators, mentors, and friends—individuals I now actively work and build with in the AWS community.

You don't need to be an expert to start. Sometimes, the most important step is simply showing up with curiosity and an open mind—you never know where it might lead.

 2024: Stepping Up

In 2024, I returned to AWS Community Day Philippines, not as an attendee this time, but as a community partner and exhibitor, representing AWS User Group BuildHers+ Philippines, a community that empowers women and underrepresented groups in tech.

AWS Community Day Philippines 2024

At that point, Joanne and I had just been newly appointed as the leads of AWS User Group BuildHers+ Philippines, and it was just the two of us. We were still figuring things out, learning as we went, and finding our rhythm as community leaders. It was both exciting and overwhelming, but we showed up with purpose, determined to represent BuildHers+ and the values it stood for.

Our booth became more than just a space; it became a hub for meaningful conversations. We met students exploring the cloud for the first time, professionals transitioning into tech, and advocates pushing for inclusivity in the industry.

Through those moments, I saw firsthand how representation truly matters. When people see others who look like them, speak like them, or share their story, they begin to believe that they, too, have a place in tech.

Growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone. Every small contribution can spark change in ways you might not even realize.

 2025: Taking the Stage

And then came 2025, the year I took the stage.

AWS Community Day Philippines 2025 - My Session

This time, I wasn't in the audience. I was up front, sharing my own story through my session, "Disaster and Emergency Response with TAK and AWS."

My talk was inspired by a reality close to home. Living in the Philippines means facing typhoons, earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters regularly. In those moments, effective communication can mean the difference between life and death.

As I shared during my talk:

"Disasters are natural and inevitable. Our capability to communicate during calamities can bring a significant impact to those who are responding and to the affected communities."

Through TAK (Team Awareness Kit) integrated with AWS, we explored how real-time coordination helps first responders, government agencies, and volunteers share vital information, even when traditional communication networks fail.

But beyond the technology, my message was simple: technology should serve humanity. It's not enough to build innovative systems—we must build ones that save lives, empower communities, and foster resilience.

Standing on that stage was surreal. It wasn't just about presenting a technical topic; it was about sharing a message of purpose. It was proof that the girl who once sat quietly in the audience now had a voice and that her story mattered.

Your unique experiences are your strength. Don't be afraid to share them—because your story might just be the one that inspires someone else to start theirs.

What the AWS Community Taught Me

Looking back, these three years have been nothing short of transformative. Here's what I've learned along the way:

 1. Community Accelerates Growth

Every mentor, peer, and organizer who believed in me helped shape the person I am today. The AWS community invests in people, and that investment changes lives.

 2. Representation Opens Doors

Seeing women and underrepresented groups on stage matters. It tells others, "You can do this too." Representation isn't just symbolic; it's empowering and necessary.

 3. Purpose Drives Innovation

The most meaningful technology solves real problems. For me, it's about building solutions that help communities prepare for and recover from disasters.

 4. Your Journey Inspires Others

Sharing your story isn't about spotlighting yourself; it's about lighting the way for those still finding their path. The seat you take in the audience today could be the stage you stand on tomorrow.

To Anyone Starting Their Tech Journey

If you're wondering whether you belong in tech, or if you're unsure where to start—you do belong, and the best time to start is now.

Here's my advice:

Show up. Attend events, ask questions, and learn from others.

Contribute. You don't need to be an expert to make an impact.

Stay curious. Keep learning, building, and exploring.

Find your purpose. Technology is just a tool—what matters is the change you want to create.

Lift others up. When you grow, help others rise with you.

 Final Thoughts

From attendee to speaker, this journey has been about more than cloud computing—it's been about connection, courage, and community.

The AWS community gave me space to grow. The AWS User Group BuildHers+ Philippines amplified my voice. And now, I hope to do the same for others—to help more people see that they, too, belong in tech.

Here's to building technology that doesn't just innovate but saves lives, empowers communities, and truly serves humanity.

The Day I Almost Backed Out: Being the Only Woman Speaker at AWS Cloud Day Philippines' Developer Lounge

I need to be real with you—I almost didn't do it.

When I got the invitation to speak at AWS Cloud Day Philippines 2025's Developer's Lounge, I was excited. But that excitement quickly turned into panic when I saw the full speaker lineup.

 The Moment Everything Hit Me

There were founders, managers, senior engineers, and team leads with years of experience. And then there was me—just over a year into my role as a Cloud Applications Specialist, leading an amazing community through BuildHers+, but definitely not feeling like I belonged on that stage.

Oh, and I was the only woman presenting.

AWS Cloud Day Philippines 2025 – Developer Lounge Speaker Lineup

That last part? It hit differently. I stared at my name on that lineup for what felt like forever, and all I could think was: "What am I doing? I should probably back out before I embarrass myself."

 The Fear Was So Real

I'm not going to sugarcoat it—I was terrified. It wasn't just regular public speaking nerves (though trust me, those were there too). It was this heavy feeling that if I messed up, I wouldn't just be failing myself. I'd be reinforcing every doubt people might have about women in technical roles.

That's the thing about being "the only one"—you feel like you're representing everyone who looks like you. It's exhausting before you even start.

I kept thinking about all the ways it could go wrong. What if people didn't take me seriously? What if my technical explanations weren't good enough? What if they wondered why someone with just a year of experience was even on that stage?

Why I Decided to Do It Anyway

Here's what changed my mind: I thought about all the BuildHers+ members I work with. I thought about the women in our AWS User Group who constantly tell me they don't feel confident enough to speak up. I thought about the girls who might be in that audience, wondering if there's a place for them in tech.

If I backed out because I was scared, what message would that send?

So I made a decision. I was going to do this—not because I suddenly felt confident (I didn't), but because someone needed to. And that someone might as well be me.

 What Actually Happened

The day of the event, I was still nervous. But once I started talking about TAK (Team Awareness Kit) and how we're using AWS to help first responders during disasters and emergencies, something clicked. I stopped thinking about being "the only woman" and started focusing on the work that actually matters.

The audience was engaged. People asked questions. And afterwards, I had some really great conversations with attendees who'd never heard about this kind of disaster response technology before.

My Developer Lounge Session

I also got to connect with some incredible people—Wendy Yen and Rani Sarojeni Burchmore from AWS (which was surreal as an AWS re/Start alumna), industry folks like Sir Donnie Prakoso, Sir Paul Sears, and Sir Jon Bonso, and so many others who made me feel like I did belong there after all.

Developer Lounge Speakers and Volunteers

With the AWS re/Start team

What Being "The Only One" Taught Me

Look, I'm not going to pretend it didn't feel weird being the only woman speaker. It did. But here's what I realized:

Someone has to be first. Someone has to be the one person in the room so that eventually, we're not the only person in the room anymore.

Every time a young woman sees another woman presenting technical content, giving a talk, or leading a discussion, it plants a seed. It makes the impossible feel possible. It turns "I could never do that" into "maybe I could try."

That's literally why BuildHers+ exists—to create spaces where women don't have to be "the only one" as often.

To Anyone Who's Ever Felt Like This

If you're reading this and you've ever been invited to speak, present, or lead something and thought "I'm not ready" or "I don't belong"—I get it. That feeling is so valid.

But here's the thing: they asked you. Not because they needed to fill a diversity quota (though representation matters), but because you have something valuable to share.

Will you be nervous? Probably. Will you feel out of place? Maybe. But you know what? You'll survive it. And on the other side of that fear is growth, new connections, and the knowledge that you did something that scared you.

Plus, you never know who in that audience needs to see someone like them on that stage.

 Moving Forward

Looking back on AWS Cloud Day Philippines 2025, I'm grateful I pushed through that initial fear. What started as a moment of self-doubt became a powerful reminder of why representation matters in tech spaces. We need diverse voices not as a checkbox exercise, but because different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives make our industry stronger, more innovative, and more inclusive.

The next time you find yourself as "the only one" in the room, remember: you're not just there for yourself. You're there for everyone who looks like you, thinks like you, or dreams like you. You're there to open doors, break barriers, and light the way for others to follow.

Step outside your comfort zone. The tech world needs your voice.

Special thanks to the AWS Cloud Day Philippines 2025 organizing team, my fellow speakers, the BuildHers+ community, and everyone who continues to champion diversity and inclusion in tech spaces. Together, we're building a more inclusive future.

April 5, 2025 – Manila – In celebration of Women’s Month, AWS Cloud Club - Adamson University hosted FalCat in Her BuildHer’s Era, their first event dedicated to empowering women in tech and addressing the industry's ongoing gender gap. With support from AWS User Group BuildHers+ Philippines, AWS Cloud Clubs from Archer’s, PUP, and Haribon, and sponsors KakaComputer and Tutorials Dojo, the event combined inspiring speaker sessions and an innovative ideathon to foster dialogue, drive solutions, and build a stronger, more inclusive tech community.

In today's tech industry, where gender diversity remains a challenge, creating supportive communities and visible pathways for success has never been more important.

Speaker Insights: Voices from the Field

The first speaker of the day was Uriel Alonso, Cloud Applications Specialist at Apper Cloud Labs and Community Leader of AWS User Group BuildHers+ Philippines. Uriel focused on the critical role of representation in the tech industry, especially in the technology field that remains predominantly male. She emphasized how visibility, inclusivity, and access to opportunities can encourage women and gender-diverse individuals to pursue technology careers.

Following was Maxine Ileto, IT Manager and Data Engineer at Procter & Gamble, who shared her personal tech journey. Maxine took the audience through her early internships and the challenges she faced as a woman in a male-dominated industry. Her honest stories about navigating microaggressions and impostor syndrome while building technical expertise resonated with many attendees.

The speaker session concluded with insights from Enrica Dio, researcher, scholar, and Captain of AWS Archer's Cloud Club. She shared her journey through hackathons and provided practical tips for those interested in participating in similar events. Her advice on team formation, rapid prototyping, and effective pitching prepared everyone for the afternoon challenge.

The Current State: Understanding the Representation Gap

Despite decades of progress, technology remains one of the most gender-imbalanced professional fields. Recent industry data shows women hold less than 25% of technical roles in major tech companies, with even lower representation in leadership positions. For women of color and those from other underrepresented groups, these numbers drop even further.

This disparity isn't just a matter of statistics—it represents missed opportunities for innovation, problem-solving, and comprehensive product development that serve diverse user bases.

 Why Representation Matters: Beyond Numbers

Representation in tech isn't simply about achieving balanced percentages; it's about creating an industry that benefits from the full spectrum of human talent and perspective. When technology is developed by diverse teams, it better serves diverse users.

Representation is crucial in the tech industry for several reasons:

Inspiration and Motivation: Seeing individuals who look like you in positions of power sends a powerful message that YOU TOO can achieve success. This inspires people to pursue careers in tech and motivates them to push beyond perceived limits.

Validation and Belonging: Representation validates identities and creates a sense of belonging. It helps individuals feel accepted and valued in their workplaces.

Safety and Inclusion: Adequate representation ensures that diverse voices are heard and valued, creating safer spaces where everyone feels they belong.

Innovation and Business Success: Diverse representation brings unique perspectives, enhancing innovation and problem-solving.

Unlocking Potential: Representation unlocks human potential by revealing undiscovered talent and encouraging people to pursue opportunities they might otherwise feel are out of reach.

 Addressing the Representation Gap

The challenge of increasing women's representation in technology requires multi-faceted solutions operating at different levels of the ecosystem. As I've discussed during my talk, here are some effective ways to bridge this gap:

Mentorship & Allyship

Strong mentors provide guidance, confidence-building, and valuable network connections

Effective allies amplify women's voices and actively challenge workplace biases

Tech Education & Upskilling

Targeted programs like scholarships and women-focused tech communities break down educational barriers

Hands-on training opportunities and certification pathways create accessible entry points

Inclusive Workplace Culture

Family-friendly policies, including flexible work arrangements support retention

Unbiased hiring practices and transparent promotion structures ensure fair advancement

Zero-tolerance policies for discrimination create psychological safety

 Innovation in Action: The Ideathon

The second half of the event transformed attendees from listeners to creators through an ideathon centered on the theme: "Bridging the Gender Gap: Internships as Gateways to Equality." Six diverse teams had two hours to develop and pitch tech-based solutions addressing gender disparities in early career opportunities.

Judges evaluated entries based on innovation, feasibility, scalability, and potential impact on gender equity. The competitive yet collaborative atmosphere showed how technical skills can be channeled toward solving meaningful social challenges.

 Building Lasting Change

Through events like FalCat in Her BuildHer's Era, the conversation moves beyond acknowledging the problem to implementing solutions. The AWS Cloud Club - Adamson University demonstrated how student-led organizations can play a powerful role in addressing industry-wide challenges through intentional community building.

Initiatives like this coming from students themselves represent a profound shift in the landscape of tech inclusion. When young people take ownership of creating the diverse industry they want to enter, it signals a generational commitment to change that extends far beyond temporary programs or corporate policies. These student leaders aren't just participating in the conversation—they're reshaping it! Bringing fresh perspectives and urgency to issues that have persisted for too long.

March 22, 2025 – Ortigas, Pasig – Marking a powerful new beginning, the AWS User Group BuildHers+ Philippines hosted its first-ever event: the AWSUG BuildHers+ Summit: Architecting the Future with Innovation. This milestone gathering set the tone for the group's revival, renewing its commitment to uplifting women in technology through community building and skill development. The event was generously supported by Tutorials Dojo, CloudSensei, Giftology PH, Fantech Philippines, and KB Switches, with key partnerships from AWS User Group Philippines and K8SUG Philippines.

Held on a day filled with inspiration, learning, and empowerment, the summit celebrated women's leadership and impact in the tech industry. It brought together trailblazing women technologists who are actively shaping the future through innovation and inclusive leadership.

Each speaker shared not only technical insight but also a story that challenged conventional expectations of success in tech. Their journeys illuminated how innovation springs from resilience, reinvention, and a sense of purpose rather than following traditional paths.

 The Power of Reinvention

Ms. Joyce Agus opened the summit with a compelling talk on the increasing importance of cybersecurity in our technology-driven age of cloud computing. As organizations increasingly migrate to the cloud, securing digital assets has never been more critical.

What made Ms. Joyce's session especially memorable was her professional evolution. Beginning her career in Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE), she pivoted toward cybersecurity and has since become a respected voice in the field. As a Solutions Engineering Manager, she leads and mentors a team of solutions engineers, combining technical expertise with leadership excellence. Her experience illustrated that transitions within tech can lead to unexpected opportunities, and that curiosity, adaptability, and lifelong learning often prove more valuable than following a single, predetermined path.

Ms. Joyce's story stands as a testament to the power of reinvention and proof that multiple pathways lead to meaningful careers in technology.

 Breaking Ground in Autonomous Vehicles

Dr. Jheanel Estrada, captivated the audience with her deep insights into autonomous vehicle technology, sharing cutting-edge advancements and her hands-on experience developing self-driving systems. As the only woman on her team, Dr. Estrada has faced challenges that often accompany being in the minority within male-dominated fields. Yet she has consistently demonstrated the transformative impact of showing up, excelling, and leading in spaces where women remain underrepresented.

Beyond her groundbreaking work in autonomous vehicles, Dr. Estrada serves as Computer Science Program Chair and research fellow, significantly shaping the academic landscape. She teaches and mentors future technologists, inspiring students and cultivating the next generation of innovators. Her academic leadership reflects her commitment to fostering diversity and empowering emerging talent in technology.

Dr. Estrada's journey showcases what becomes possible when women break barriers and lead from the front. She contributes not only to innovation but also actively shapes the industry's future. Her work inspires others by demonstrating how passion, resilience, and technical expertise create opportunities for both individual success and collective advancement of women in tech.

 Reimagining Business with GenAI

Ms. Trisha Pelagio guided the audience through the transformative world of Generative AI (GenAI), revealing how it revolutionizes business processes and workflows across industries. Her session masterfully applied emerging technologies to real-world scenarios, bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical impact.

Beyond technical expertise, Ms. Trisha's story of entering the tech space through AWS resonated strongly with students and young professionals. Her approachable, energizing presence reassured attendees that the tech industry welcomes everyone and that the future belongs to those willing to adapt, learn, and lead with purpose.

Building the Future, One Story at a Time

The AWSUG BuildHers+ Summit transcended being merely a technical event. It celebrated the diverse ways women redefine success in technology. From career pivots to breaking barriers, each narrative reinforced that innovation follows not a linear trajectory but a dynamic journey shaped by passion, perseverance, and purpose.

This summit powerfully reminded us that women in tech occupy roles across the spectrum: engineers, architects, cybersecurity experts, AI specialists, and innovators. They lead meetings rather than simply documenting them. They build tables rather than merely sitting at them.

As technology continues its evolution, our narratives must evolve too. These remarkable women aren't simply participating in technology's future—they actively architect it through skill, innovation, and impact.

 Charting Your Own Path

The stories shared at the AWSUG BuildHers+ Summit reveal a powerful truth: there is NO single "correct" pathway into technology. Whether you're considering a career shift, facing challenges in a male-dominated team, or seeking to leverage cutting-edge technologies, these women's journeys offer valuable insights for anyone looking to make their mark in tech.

 1. Embrace Your Evolving Technical Journey

Ms. Joyce's transition from Electronics and Communications Engineering to cybersecurity leadership demonstrates how technical skills can evolve and transfer across domains. Her career path shows that your foundation in one technical area isn't limiting—it's a springboard that enables you to approach new challenges with valuable perspective and insight.

Identify transferable skills from your current field. As a career shifter, your experience in project management, customer service, healthcare, education, or any non-tech field equips you with unique perspectives and problem-solving approaches that the industry desperately needs.

 2. Create Visibility Through Excellence

As Dr. Jheanel showed, being the only woman on a team presents challenges but also opportunities to demonstrate exceptional leadership. Excellence speaks volumes and creates pathways for those who follow.

Identify one technical area where you can develop deep expertise, then use that mastery as a platform to advocate for greater diversity in your workplace or academic setting.

 3. Become a Bridge Builder

Ms. Trisha's ability to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications highlights the importance of being a "translator" in technology. Those who can explain complex technologies in accessible ways become invaluable.

Practice explaining technical concepts to non-technical friends or family. This skill will distinguish you whether you're presenting to executives, teaching students, or mentoring newcomers.

 4. Build Community Connections

The revival of AWSUG BuildHers+ itself demonstrates the power of community. Technology careers thrive through mentorship, shared knowledge, and collective support.

Find or create your own tech community. Whether joining established groups or starting small meetups, these connections provide practical and technical knowledge and crucial emotional support. You can always find the right community for you!

 5. Redefine What Leadership Looks Like

Each speaker at the summit demonstrated that leadership in tech takes many forms—from academic guidance to business innovation to cybersecurity protection. Your leadership path doesn't need to follow conventional patterns.

Look beyond traditional leadership roles. Consider how you might lead through creating technical content, organizing community events, or mentoring junior colleagues.

The AWSUG BuildHers+ Summit reminds us that technology needs diverse voices not just to participate but to actively shape its future. By embracing your unique journey, developing excellence in your chosen area, building supportive communities, bridging technical and human understanding, and redefining leadership on your own terms, YOU TOO can architect the future of technology—one where innovation and inclusion advance together.
