This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend

  What I Built

I built Meal Buddy, a simple meal scheduling assistant to help a friend who finds it difficult to decide what to cook for the next few days.

The idea is simple: the user tells Meal Buddy how many days they need a schedule for, which ingredients they currently have, and any food allergies they want to avoid.

Meal Buddy then creates a meal schedule based on these requirements and takes the mentioned allergies into consideration when suggesting meals.

Instead of spending time deciding what to cook every day, the user can provide their requirements and get a schedule whenever they need one.

  Demo

  Code

😋 Meal Buddy is a meal scheduling assistant that creates personalized meal plans based on your available ingredients, food allergies, and required number of days. Just provide your requirements, and Meal Buddy helps you plan suitable meals whenever you need them.

😋Meal buddy

📌 Project Overview

Meal buddy is a simple meal scheduling assistant that helps user create a meal schedule based on their needs. The user can provide the number of the schedule, the ingredients they currently have and any food allergies they want to avoid.

based on the user's requirements, Meal buddy generates a suitable meals schedule and takes the provided allergies into consideration while creating it user can provide their requirements.

🎯 Problem Statement

Planning meals for several days can be difficult when users have limited ingredients or specific food allergies.

People may spend time deciding what to cook each day and may accidentally choose meals that contain ingredients they need to avoid.

There is a need for a simple assistant that can consider the user's available ingredients, allergies, and required number of days and help create a suitable meal schedule based on these requirements.

🛠️ Technology Stack

Python

…

View on GitHub

  How I Built It

I built Meal Buddy using Python, Streamlit, and Ollama.

The project uses a locally running open-weight AI model through Ollama. The AI receives the user's requirements and generates a meal schedule based on the number of days, available ingredients, and allergies provided by the user.

Streamlit provides the simple interface where the user enters their requirements and receives the generated schedule.

I wanted to keep the project simple so that the main focus stays on the interaction between the user and the AI assistant.

  Image Presentation

  Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation gives developers the opportunity to experiment with AI models and build projects using open-weight models.

For Meal Buddy, using Gemma through Ollama allowed me to run the AI model locally. It gave me more flexibility to experiment with the model and integrate it into the project.

Open-weight models also make it easier to build, test, and customize AI-based projects based on specific requirements.

  Prize Categories

Best Use of Gemma

Meal Buddy uses Gemma to generate meal schedules based on the user's required number of days, available ingredients, and food allergies.
