Cybersecurity can feel difficult when you are just starting. There are many tools, technical terms, and real-world risks to understand. I wanted to build something that makes the learning process more interactive and easier for beginners.

That is why I built SecurityX: a cybersecurity learning platform where users can explore security concepts through lessons, quizzes, challenges, progress tracking, and safe educational simulations.

You can explore the project here: securityx.in
You can explore the Windows version: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9mtn8v2pv8d0

 Why I built SecurityX

My goal was not to build a replacement for professional security tools. I wanted to create a platform where students and beginners can learn cybersecurity concepts in a more practical and engaging way.

SecurityX brings different learning ideas together in one place:

Cybersecurity learning modules and e-book resources

Quizzes to check understanding

CyberDojo challenges for hands-on practice

A learner dashboard and progress tracking

AI-assisted explanations

OSINT learning simulations that show how information may appear in security scenarios

The OSINT-related features are clearly presented as educational simulations. They do not claim to provide live breach intelligence, real dark-web results, or professional threat assessments.

 What I used

Building SecurityX helped me gain practical experience with:

Next.js

React

TypeScript

JavaScript

Tailwind CSS

Firebase Authentication

Firestore

Vercel deployment

API routes and environment variables

I also used my existing knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Firebase, MySQL concepts, Core Java, and Python fundamentals while planning and building the project.

 Challenges I faced

One of the biggest lessons was understanding the difference between a good-looking prototype and a responsible cybersecurity product.

A cybersecurity-related platform must be honest about what it does. For example, if a feature is simulated for learning, it should be labelled clearly. A user should never mistake an educational scenario for a real security result.

I also learned the importance of protecting API keys, using environment variables, validating input, handling errors properly, and thinking carefully about Firebase authentication and Firestore security rules.

What I learned from the process

Building SecurityX taught me more than just frontend development.

I learned how to:

Structure a larger web application

Connect authentication and user data

Build interactive learning experiences

Think about security, privacy, and user trust

Deploy a project and solve production build issues

Improve a project through feedback and testing

What I want to improve next

SecurityX is still a growing project. My next focus is improving the learning content, adding more beginner-friendly challenges, improving accessibility, and continuing to make the platform clearer and safer for users.

I am an MCA student and aspiring cybersecurity professional, and this project is part of my journey to learn by building.

If you explore SecurityX, I would genuinely appreciate your feedback:

Which feature is most useful for a beginner?

What cybersecurity topic should I add next?

What would make the learning experience better?

Thank you for reading.
