VYou becomes a proud partner of Global Software Architecture Summit!

Save the date! October 3-4, 2022! CCIB, Barcelona!

Leading software architects from all over the world are coming to Barcelona to give practical talks and hands-on workshops related to software architecture metrics!

VYou is a user and access management solution made by developers for developers. Therefore to support GSAS, VYou successfully personalized and integrated user and access management software with GSAS look and feel.

GSAS wanted to give an opportunity to speakers, attendees, and sponsors to connect with the community by developing a mobile app that makes it possible by scanning badges and connecting on social networks, participating in raffles, and contributing to the discussions. Instead of building a login system from scratch, GSAS decided to integrate the VYou app. You can read about this case study.

This year GSAS is organized in Barcelona International Convention Centre – leading European location for event organisation.

Moreover, this edition is focused on software architecture metrics as they are key to the maintainability and architectural quality of a software project. This Autumn Christian Ciceri, Dave Farley, Neal Ford, Andrew Harmel-Law, Michael Keeling, Carola Lilienthal, João Rosa, Alexander von Zitzewitz, Rene Weiss, and Eoin Woods have published Software Architecture Book with O’Reilly and most of them are coming to the summit talking about their chapters.

VYou software architect – Christian Ciceri is one of the speakers at the conference, where he will talk about his book chapter: “Private Builds and Metrics: Tools for Surviving DevOps Transitions”.

Scientists tend to measure things as a basis for further reasoning. Even when you can’t get precise numbers, mathematical approaches to software architecture depend on measurable quantities, like metrics and indicators. Sometimes such approaches depend on which metrics make sense and which do not in a given situation. How can you make sure that your KPIs are providing the information your organization needs to make decisions about how to invest time and effort? Getting to great metrics requires a well-assembled system and a whole lot of work. But the truth is, you might not be working with a well-assembled system, or perhaps your organization has yet to put in the effort it takes to get all the way to fantastic metrics based on DevOps best practices. DevOps is a cultural shift; it’s easy to misunderstand the concept, and companies don’t always commit to adopting best practices fully. Even when that’s the goal, learning and implementing them is a process that takes time. Reality is not always a best-case scenario, and standard metrics do not always reflect the real problem.

Christian Ciceri is a software architect and co-founder at Apiumhub, he is also head of software architecture at VYou, Apium Academy professor, and head of moderators for the Global Software Architecture Summit. He began his professional career with a specific interest in object-oriented design issues, with deep studies in code-level and architectural-level design patterns and techniques. He is a former practitioner of Agile Methodologies, particularly eXtreme Programming, with experience in practices like TDD, Continuous Integration, build pipelines, and evolutionary design. He has always aimed for widespread technological knowledge; that’s why he has been exploring a huge range of technologies and architectural styles, including Java, .NET, dynamic languages, pure scripting languages, native C++ application development, classical layering, Domain-Centric, classical SOA, and Enterprise Service Buses. In his own words: “A software architect should create a working ecosystem that allows teams to have scalable, predictable, and cheaper production.

Most companies and teams, whether in a huge enterprise with frequent mergers and acquisitions, a rapidly growing startup, or a mid-size business adapting to constant disruption—struggle to keep pace with dynamic user access management as employees join, change positions, or leave the organization and it requires a lot of changes in terms of permissions, etc. The process of onboarding and offboarding users is tedious and complex. Many organizations still rely on manual provisioning processes, such as enabling and disabling accounts on an app-by-app basis, for every employee. In our projects, we see that onboarding is one of the most common bottlenecks to high-volume employee onboarding and offboarding.

VYou – user management and access management solution could eliminate identity lifecycle chores that slow things down and provide access to new hires on their first day. VYou vision is to simplify the automation of user management and access management as well as software development life cycle, putting extra emphasis on easy integration and scalability.

Given how critical business applications are to employee productivity, and how many apps the average company uses (at last count, large organizations deploy over 160), an access management solution should never be an afterthought. Based on our experience, new employees get frustrated if it takes more than a day to receive the right level of access to all the applications, collaboration groups, and content libraries they need to get up to speed. Meanwhile, any delay in removing access for terminated users creates security risks, but deleting accounts prematurely can result in the loss of valuable corporate assets.

By using VYou to automate access management processes , onboarding and offboarding, you can:

Give new employees the tools and access they need on day one

Reduce costs

Facilitate compliance efforts

Maintain a centralized record of how a user got access

Ensure access is granted or revoked on time

Grant access when new employees join and revoke access as soon as employees leave

Relieve your IT team from manual provisioning work (e.g. creating, deactivating accounts)

Automate account actions

Set unique rules for account creation, updates, and deactivation on each application.

Manage employees

Trigger changes from HR or IT systems

Manage contractors and partners

If you would like to try VYou, please request a DEMO here. Also, you can check the Documentation on this page.

VYou offers unlimited scalability not charging per user

As a general rule of thumb, businesses should consider flexible subscriptions that help them easily scale as they grow. Businesses change over time and have to quickly adapt to the changing market trends. Regardless of the pricing model you choose, you should be able to upgrade or downgrade your subscription.

 The most common pricing models

 Per-user Pricing

Per-user pricing is one of the most popular pricing models due to its simplicity. You pay a fixed subscription fee based on the number of users. The per-user cost usually includes all the features and businesses only have to decide on the total number of users.

 Tiered Pricing

Tiered pricing is essentially a hybrid pricing model that allows businesses to choose different software packages with varying features and subscription costs.

 Features/Functionality based Pricing

Similar to tier-based pricing, the feature-based pricing model allows businesses to choose and pay for features/functionality they need. Costlier subscriptions include more features and integration options and allow users to upgrade their packages as they grow. They might need new solutions to their problems during growth and hence upgrade to the next level. As per the feature pricing model, you’re tying the price directly to the value offered by you to your customers.

 Flat Rate Pricing

Flat rate pricing is pretty similar to traditional software licensing i.e. a single software with specific features for a specific price. Although this model has become a rarity these days, it does provide businesses with access to all the features at a fixed price. Basically, the method is based on the “one size fits all” pricing strategy, and you charge your customers the same amount monthly/annually regardless of how many users or their usage is.

 Customizable Pricing

Many companies allow businesses to roll their own pricing model in which they can customize the package keeping their unique requirements in mind.

 Usage-based pricing model

The usage-based pricing model is also touted as the “pay as you go” model. In this pricing model, the customer is charged based on their usage of the product. If they use more, they’re charged more, and if they use less, they’re charged less. The usage can be charged based on various factors such as the number of Emails being sent, per API, per call, per transaction, etc.

 Freemium pricing model

Freemium is a widely adopted pricing model which allows businesses to gain new users and offer them a free but limited version of their product. The idea is to hook users to your product and nudge them later to upgrade to the paid version if they want more advanced or personalized features. In some cases, companies start charging from the second year of subscription.

VYou – user management and access management solution developed by developers for developers follows the tiered pricing model with the possibility to do the customization with the help of Apiumhub.

Also, VYou is constantly evolving and launching new features. VYou offers a FREEmium pricing model during the first year of subscription if developers give extended feedback to keep improving the product and keep growing in the right direction taking into account users’ feedback. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact us.

VYou Guides: Android

In this post we are introducing the Android SDK for VYou. This library includes a client SDK along with some artifacts and a sample to streamline your workflow. The SDK for Android is written in Kotlin using Kotlin Cross-Platform to provide support for Android and iOS applications.

VYou SDK for Android: a guide

In this tutorial, we’ll explain what the VYou Android SDK is and how to get started with it. The Android SDK consist of the following artifacts:

KMM-Client: Client to manage operations with VYou authentication server.

Android-Google: Library to sign in/up in VYou through Google libraries.

Android-Facebook: Library to sign in/up in VYou through Facebook libraries.

Android-Stripe: Library to make payments and subscriptions through Stripe.

 Getting Started

After you have completed the installation & updated modules, you can initialize the client by initializing the VYou class, which is the main entry point for all the operations in the library. In order to create the client, you’ll need to follow our documentation: https://docs.vyou-app.com/guide/android-sdk.html#initialize-the-client

After initializing the client, you can use it through the application calling VYou.instance (). The client provides functionality to authenticate a user and manage the user’s information.

Each method returns a VYouCredentials class that contains the information to authorize any call covered by VYou auth server. Internally, this information is saved in encrypted shared preferences and can be recovered through these credentials and helper methods to check the user’s session.

If you already have a Google or Facebook implementation in your application, you can use these methods to sign in to VYou, further we will explain the social artifacts that cover the implementation of social libraries.

To register a new user on the platform, firstly we will need to provide an email and the acceptance of the required terms of use & privacy policy. After signing up, the user will receive a confirmation code in the email provided in the previous step. The user must copy this code and enter it to verify registration. Lastly, if the code provided is valid, the user must register a password related to the email.

All these steps are needed to ensure all security steps related to the OAuth protocol.

 Profile

Users will have access to the information they will provide to the application via VYou. By creating a profile at VYou users can retrieve or update the current information by following this guide.

 Payments

VYou offers a Stripe integration to make payments through Stripe, so the SDK provides two methods to create payments through the VYou platform. In case you don’t have an integration with Stripe, we have created a library to explain all Stripe integration through the VYou platform.

 Integrations

To facilitate integration with Google and Facebook, we have created several artifacts to manage login through each platform. To start using them, first install each library you want to use through the VYou Builder that you will find in the VYou Client getting started section.

VYou also wants to enhance your customers’ experience, the SDK also provides a solution that uses Stripe to make payments and create subscription methods. We have created libraries just to help you out.

Learn more about VYou asking for a FREE demo here. For more details about integrations & code implementation, check our documentation.

VYou vs. custom software development

When deciding between an already existing Low Code Platforms and custom software development, first of all it is important to determine the goal you wish the software to achieve and the overall customization required in order to achieve the goal.

Here are some factors to consider when choosing between Low Code Platform vs custom software:

MVP features

Amount of customization required

Deadlines

Budget

Know-how

Good news is that you don’t have to choose, we don’t live in a black and white world, so there are many low code platforms that allow customization and are quite flexible on that. For example,VYou – user and access management solutions has an option to personalize your plan and add extra features or develop new functionalities from scratch based on your needs, adapting the interface to the style guideline of your company.

 VYou & Apiumhub collaboration

To be honest, in many cases VYou receives requests to develop custom software apart from VYou solution, therefore we closely work with Apiumhub – software development company that has developed the tool and that takes key part in VYou projects that require customization.

Apiumhub develops powerful and scalable digital products, putting pragmatism and problem solving in the center of every project, delivering value by creating seamless digital experiences, continuously evolving technology, enabling an adaptive mindset to meet business goals.

This is a win-win situation for both companies as they complement each other. In many projects Apiumhub gets briefings to develop a login system from scratch and instead of developing the same functionalities in every project and repeating the process, Apiumhub implements VYou right away, accelerating time to market and reducing costs.

VYou vision is to simplify the automation of user and customer management as well as software development life cycle, putting extra emphasis on easy integration.
Soft vs. Hard launch: What’s best for your MVP?

If you are a startup founder and you are currently working on launching your MVP to the market, you have probably already started thinking about how you will launch it. There are startups that benefit from doing a soft launch while others prefer to opt for a hard launch. If you don’t know the difference between these two launch strategies, we invite you to continue reading this article to find out which one best suits your needs.

 What is a soft launch?

This type of launch, also known as pilot launch or gradual launch, consists of launching a website, app or product gradually with the smallest components.

The purpose of this type of launch is to collect data on the use and acceptance of the product in order to make the necessary changes and eliminate errors before launching a definitive MVP. With a soft launch you can identify which pages need more advertising and which areas of your application need general optimization.

A soft launch can be ideal for the launch of your MVP if:

You need to test the viability of your product or service

You want to test some of the features with a limited audience

You want to do an A/B test of different functionalities

You need to check price acceptance

You don’t have enough resources to invest in marketing

It should be noted that there is no specific time limit for a soft launch. The time can vary from weeks to months depending on several factors such as the size of your market, the geographic area of your audience, the lifespan of the offering, the budget you have as a startup for the launch, etc.

 What is a hard launch?

A hard launch consists of launching a service or product to the market with great fanfare, i.e., in a big way! Investing in advertising and marketing to publicize all its features, advantages and functionalities.

This type of launch requires more time because you will need to have all the features of your product or website ready in order to fine tune all the details. If there are any problems in your launch, either technical or operational, the reception of your product can be greatly affected.

Of course, in a hard launch you can also make changes to your MVP based on customer feedback. But in this type of launch, the main goal is not to collect feedback but to get sales.

A hard launch can be ideal for the launch of your MVP if:

You are sure of the quality and efficiency of your final product

You have the resources to invest in a solid marketing strategy

There is a chance that a competitor will beat you to the punch with the same business idea

Now that you know the difference between these two launch strategies, you can think about which one best suits your MVP. Everything will depend on the type of product you are creating, and the resources you have available. In our blog you can find more useful tips to develop your MVP, we have new content every week!

Common MVP mistakes startups make

Have you ever wondered how the big companies started to grow their business? Well, many of them certainly started by creating an MVP.

MVP stands for ‘minimum viable product’ and it’s a strategy commonly used by startups that consists in building a product with enough features to attract early adopters and validate a business idea. The great advantage of creating an MVP is the possibility of testing your idea and receiving feedback from potential customers without spending much time or money.

The feedback received by customers serves to make adjustments and align your product or service with the market expectations. Of course, a successful MVP doesn’t necessarily mean that your business is going to succeed, but it’s a great place to start.

“The goal of an MVP is to test fundamental business hypotheses (or leap-of-faith assumptions) and to help entrepreneurs begin the learning process as quickly as possible.” – Eric Ries, The Lean Startup.

Although it doesn’t sound like building an MVP is hard, it can certainly be a struggle for startups that don’t have a clear vision of their business idea. If you are building your MVP, make sure you don’t make the following common mistakes:

Not having a clear value proposition

This may be obvious, but there are many startups that start building their MVP without having a clear value proposition. Understanding what’s your value proposition it’s the first, and most important step to start. The reason? A value proposition helps your customers fully understand the value of your product or service. It’s a simple statement that summarizes the benefit they receive if they choose your business over others. Your customers should be able to read it and understand it easily!

 Launching too soon

One of the questions that arises when launching an MVP is: when is the right time to launch? Knowing when is the right time to launch a product is not easy, but if your product is not completely ready at launch time, it is very likely to fail. Why? If you hurry up your MVP, you may make the mistake of launching it without enough features for early adopters to get interested in your product.

 Aiming perfection

Many startup founders believe their MVP should be a masterpiece. Truth is, you don’t need to invest too much time and resources looking for perfection or adding features users don’t really need. In fact, you don’t even need to create the final product straight away. Start small and iterate based on the feedback you receive from early adopters. Focus on the problem your product wants to solve, instead of adding redundant features.

Building a product that’s hard to sell

The point of launching a business idea to the market is to be able to monetize it in order to make a profit out of it. If your business idea is hard to sell, it will be likely to fail. Who wants to invest money constantly without barely getting a return on their investment? Probably nobody. Before building an MVP, you must have a proven plan of how you’re planning to sell your product.

 VYou for startups

User management, push communications, privacy management, monetization, are often a must in a MVP product, yet it takes months of development from scratch. With a Vyou license, you have access to all the tools you need to build a successful customer journey, keep users engaged and scale up to meet that demand. Check the VYou documentation here. If you are interested, you can request a free 90 days demo.

What is low code? VYou offers low code possibilities

Companies are rediscovering low code, a software development approach that enables the delivery of applications faster and with minimal hand-coding.

For 2030, Forrester expects the low-code industry as a whole to be worth an estimate $B 187. OutSystems alone has a market cap of $30 billion, with more than 300 partners, including – you guessed it – us, here at Near Partner.

Digital transformation poses a complex array of challenges. Businesses around the world are turning to low-code to streamline processes and reduce Time to Market.

Gartner predicts: “By 2024, low-code application development will be responsible for more than 65% of application development activity.”

 What is Low Code

Low code is a software development approach that requires little coding to build applications and processes. Instead of using complex programming languages, you can employ visual interfaces with basic logic in a low code development platform. Users with no advanced knowledge of coding or software creation may use these intuitive techniques to build software for several purposes, such as creating mobile and business applications.

A low-code development platform (LCDP) provides a development environment used to create application software through a graphical user interface. A low-coded platform may produce entirely operational applications, or require additional coding for specific situations. Low-code development platforms can reduce the amount of traditional time spent, enabling accelerated delivery of business applications. LCDPs can also lower the initial cost of setup, training, deployment and maintenance

These platforms have become increasingly popular as a fast and easy alternative to traditional software development. Both professional developers and non-professional developers can use a low-code platform to create apps of varying complexity to meet business demands for development, automate processes, and accelerate digital transformation.

Implementing low-code is revolutionizing the way businesses operate, as it enables the software that usually took weeks or months to code and test to be deployed in a matter of days or hours, in some cases. Concepts turn into realities faster, drastically reducing Time to Market.

VYou – user management and access management solution was also born with this idea in mind: accelerate MVP time-to-market and reduce costs of development. VYou is a tool developed by developers for developers with detailed documentation to support the installation, but also it can be used by non-techy people as integration, it is just a matter of hours and then users just forget about the code and use VYou solution easily.

Many researches have shown that new market entrants enjoy clear advantages in terms of market share, revenue, and sales growth. That makes Time to Market one of the essential product development KPIs or metrics – and a top priority for business leaders.

 Low code advantages

Customer and client feedback is a precious resource for all kinds of businesses. That’s why, when a business manages to get feedback, the smart thing to do is to listen and act accordingly. By using a low-code platform, changes can be quickly implemented without having to rely heavily on the IT department.

With low-code, unit testing is dramatically reduced. All the testing is done beforehand, since low-code platforms offer ready-to-use modules with all the respective functionalities up and running. Low-code systems include important security features like admin tools, access control, and threat assessments. This allows the system’s security to be configured and monitored easily. Additionally, industry best practices ensure that user data and applications are safe from breaches.

Low code allows you to rapidly deliver apps that your business needs with the existing talent, develop a variety of solutions ranging from process automation apps to mission-critical systems modernization, without incurring heavy costs.

Low-code and no-code platforms absolutely have a place in the world of development. Gartner is expecting them to start to dominate the market within only a few years, so ignoring the benefits that these approaches bring could mean missed opportunities.

But low-code and no-code aren’t going to erase the need for traditional coders just yet. Relying on others for all your application development needs can be a risk, no matter how useful the platforms are.

We strongly believe that custom development is needed anyways ( and a good option could be Apiumhub ), but for specific functionalities where your team is not very strong or which are very urgent, tools like VYou can make a difference.

VYou essence: clarifying common doubts

A lot of people ask us how VYou is placing itself against Okta, Auth0, Ping, Forgerock, etc.

Therefore we decided to write an article clarifying this common doubt and explaining what VYou is and why it doesn’t compete with these companies.

 What is VYou?

VYou is a user management and access management solution.

VYou IS a product that:

is installed in your cloud

a service aggregator that minimizes integration time

a product made by developers for developers

a solution that accelerates the MVP’s TTM but does not compromise your future

a solution that has a volume-independent pricing model

VYou IS NOT:

DaaS or IAM product in the cloud

an Identity Manager or an SSO

a product with complex SDKs

a product that creates a lifelong dependency

a product that is priced per user

VYou is built with:

An instance of VYou allows:

Multiple standalone apps

A personalized user profile for each application

Easy integration

 VYou 1.0

Multi platform

CLI compatible with the 3 main systems

Documentation and guides

Server2server API. 3rd party backend securitization

Client SDKs for Javascript, React, Android and iOS

Unlimited applications for each instance of VYou

Dynamic profiling system for each application

Independent role system for each application

Client SDKs with customizable layout

Dynamic email templates

Registration and access with login and password (OAuth2.0)

Social login with Google, Facebook and Apple

Audited database

Management of personal and forgotten information

Integration with Sendgrid and use of templates

Fully customizable activation and reset password email

Integration with Stripe (One time payment and Subscriptions)

Integration of transactions in backoffice

And if we compare the costs of VYou vs Custom software development, then we will clearly see the financial benefit as well:

To develop VYou functionalities you would need to have Backend developer + Frontend developer + Android developer + iOS developer working on the project for 2 months, so the cost would be around 20.000 euros.

If you go for a VYou license, which is 199 euros/month you will see that by the end of the year you will only pay 2388 euros. The difference is noticeable not even taking into account other benefits like know-how and proven working software. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Also, VYou doesn’t charge per user, which allows startups to scale and have the same costs regardless of how many millions of users they are gaining.

If it seems appealing to you, we encourage you to check VYou use cases and request a FREE trial.

Also, it would be very helpful for you to checkVYou documentation as well as VYou demo video ( currently available only in Spanish) from our recent event.

Last Thursday, July 7th we held at BCombinator coworking in Barcelona a live demo of VYou, our user management and access management solution made by developers for developers.

Diverse profiles attended the event, including startup founders, CTOS and developers, all interested in VYou as a tool to minimize development costs and launch scalable applications faster, balancing user experience and data protection.

The live demo was a great success. Participants had the opportunity to witness from our Product Owner and CTO how quick and easy it is to create an application from scratch with a login, registration and account activation system using VYou. What can take weeks of development took only 20 minutes to integrate and test.

These were some of the questions asked by the participants after the presentation:

What can I get with the standard version of the license?

The standard version of VYou is priced at €199 per month and includes: unlimited users, compliance management, security management of passwords and access requests, account management, social login, role API access management, cross-platform, SDK for iOS and for Android and integration with Sendgrid.

Will the price of the licenses always be the same?

The price of the standard license will always be 199 euros per month. In the near future we will add new functionalities that will have an added cost, but the initial price for the standard functionalities of the user management and access management system will not change.

What SDK does VYou have?

VYou has SDK for Javascript, React, Android and iOs.

If I stop using VYou, will I lose my user data?

No, you will always have access to your users’ data through the backoffice.

Do I need a license for each application I have?

No, with a VYou license you can manage multiple applications. Each application that we have within the same instance can have a fully customized user profile and a system of independent roles.

Will more elements be incorporated in the near future?

We have been tailoring our product according to the needs of our customers. At the moment we plan to incorporate a number of new elements such as payment methods, inapp billing, push notifications and Mailchimp integration but first we would like to get more feedback from our customers.

If you were unable to attend the event, you can watch our presentation and demo at the following link.

Want to learn more about VYou? Request a free demo here. For more details about integrations and code implementation, you can consult our documentation.
