We investigate this issue in a lab in the field experiment with participants from the general adult population in Italy. We find two key results first, that there is a positive relationship between pro sociality and strategic reasoning. Second, that reflectivity relates to lower pro sociality but only among strategic subjects, indicating that the intuitive view of pro sociality is valid only among strategic individuals. Non-strategic individuals are instead intuitively selfish. We surmise that these results emerge due to a common cognitive root between strategizing and pro sociality, namely empathy.Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) is a versatile plant exploited by the pharmaceutical and food industries. Unfortunately, it is also infamously known as a source of highly addictive narcotics, primarily heroin. Drug abuse has devastating consequences for users and also has many direct or indirect negative impacts on human society as a whole. Therefore, developing a molecular genetic tool for the individualization of opium poppy, raw opium or heroin samples could help in the fight against the drug trade by retrieving more information about the source of narcotics and linking isolated criminal cases. Bioinformatic analysis provided insight into the distribution, density and other characteristics of roughly 150 thousand microsatellite loci within the poppy genome and indicated underrepresentation of microsatellites with the desired attributes. Despite this fact, 27 polymorphic STR markers, divided into three multiplexed assays, were developed in this work. Internal validation confirmed species-specific amplification, showed that the optimal amount of DNA is within the range of 0.625-1.25 ng per reaction, and indicate relatively well balanced assays according to the metrics used. All antioxidant-redox responses were beneficially significant in pregnant cows diagnosed pregnant at day16 and sustained pregnancy to day 60 compared to non-pregnant cows at day16 or pregnant at day16 and lost embryos by days 32 or 60. Here, we examined the effect of atorvastatin on two epithelial cancer cell lines following TGF-β treatment. Atorvastatin-induced growth inhibition was stronger in TGF-β-treated cells than in cells not thusly treated. Moreover, treatment of cells with atorvastatin prior to TGF-β treatment enhanced this effect, which was further potentiated by the simultaneous reduction in the expression of the statin target enzyme, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR).       <description>&lt;p&gt;A 44-year-old male patient was referred to our department with unremarkable physical examination and laboratory data due to a mass which was incidentally found in the right atrial during a routine examination. Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography revealed a 46 × 30 mm, well-delimited, nonmobile mass in the superior portion of the right atrium. Besides the intracardiac mass, another low density was detected in adjacent pericardial cavity at cardiac computed tomography; he extracardiac mass appeared to be caused by invasive growth from the intracardiac mass. An operation was performed through right anterolateral minithoracotomy with the patient under hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass. During operation, it was found that the surface of the right atrium was covered by an adipose mass (30 × 40 mm; Figure 2A). Intracardiac mass also showed yellow adipose tissue (40 × 50 mm; Figure 2B). Both parts of the mass infiltrated the myocardium. The mass was resected completely; and right atrium was reconstructed by using bovine pericardium pad. After the operation, the pathology confirmed the both intracardiac and extracardiac tissues as lipoma; transthoracic echocardiogram showed the atrial mass was removed completely and the left ventricular ejection fraction was normal. The patient's postoperative course was uneventful and he was discharged home after 7 days.The wide variability of isoniazid (INH) pharmacokinetics is mainly attributed to the trimodal N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2) acetylator phenotype, that is, rapid, intermediate, and slow. Consequently, a uniform INH dose in current clinical practice may lead to treatment failure and emergence of drug resistance. There is a lack of studies on specific doses of INH for different NAT2 acetylator phenotypes among tuberculosis (TB) patients. Therefore, we aimed to provide insight into the optimal dosing of INH for each NAT2 acetylator phenotype with respect to the probability of achieving a pharmacokinetic (PK)/pharmacodynamic target. Sodium Monensin Antineoplastic and I chemical PK, the NAT2 genotype, and clinical data were collected in a multicenter prospective cohort study conducted at 13 clinical centers in Korea. Population PK modeling and simulation were carried out. Data from 454 TB patients were divided into a training data set and a test data set at a ratio of 4 to 1. The PK of the training data were best described by a 2-compartment model with allometric scaling for body size effect. Importantly, NAT2 acetylator phenotypes significantly affected the apparent clearance. Our model, which provided better predictive performance compared with previously published models, was evaluated by external validation using the test set. The simulation for assessing target efficacy and toxicity indicated that the best INH dosing regimens for Korean tuberculosis patients were once-daily doses of 400, 300, and 200 mg for rapid, intermediate, and slow acetylators, respectively. In conclusion, our study provides a step forward in precision dosing for antituberculosis management. &lt;br&gt;
 Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has been associated with cutaneous findings, some being the result of drug hypersensitivity reactions such as maculopapular drug rashes (MDR). The aim of this study was to investigate whether COVID-19 may impact the development of the MDR. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Blood and skin samples from COVID-19 patients (based on a positive nasopharyngeal PCR) suffering from MDR (COVID-MDR), healthy controls, non-COVID-19-related patients with drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), and MDR were analyzed. We utilized imaging mass cytometry (IMC) to characterize the cellular infiltrate in skin biopsies. Furthermore, RNA sequencing transcriptome of skin biopsy samples and high-throughput multiplexed proteomic profiling of serum were performed. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;IMC revealed by clustering analyses a more prominent, phenotypically shifted cytotoxic CD8 &lt;br&gt;
 T cell population and highly activated monocyte/macrophage (Mo/Mac) clusters in COVID-MDR. The RNA sequencing transcriptome demonstrated a more robust cytotoxic response in COVID-MDR skin. However, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 was not detected in skin biopsies at the time point of MDR diagnosis. Serum proteomic profiling of COVID-MDR patients revealed upregulation of various inflammatory mediators (IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, TNF, and IFN-γ), eosinophil and Mo/Mac -attracting chemokines (MCP-2, MCP-3, MCP-4 and CCL11). Proteomics analyses demonstrated a massive systemic cytokine storm in COVID-MDR compared with the relatively milder cytokine storm observed in DRESS, while MDR did not exhibit such features. &lt;/p&gt;

Increased surveillance of these cohorts has been suggested as a potential explanation of this reported excess thyroid cancer risk leading to an increased diagnosis of earlier-stage thyroid cancers. However, the uncertainty to what extent surveillance or physician bias may be contributing to the reported incidence of thyroid cancer in WTC-dust exposed populations remains, highlighting the need to investigate a potential causal link between WTC dust exposure and thyroid cancer. Future studies are therefore indicated to investigate potential consequences of WTC dust exposure on the thyroid gland. Studies of the heavily exposed populations offer the possibility to better understand the mechanisms behind the exposure to a variety of environmental contaminants, and may provide useful insights into exposures harmful to the thyroid. These can be used in risk stratification when implementing screening in high-risk populations and may inform shared decision-making regarding the extent of thyroid cancer treatment.This study analyzed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the detection of new cases of leprosy in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The periods January-September 2019 and January-September 2020 were compared. There was a 44.40% reduction in the diagnosis of leprosy when comparing the two periods (1,705 in 2019 and 948 in 2020). There was a reduction in the number of municipalities with reported cases 251 municipalities in 2019 and 202 in 2020, expressing a reduction of 24.25%. Considering only the months following the arrival of the virus (April-September), the reduction was 51.10%. An inverse correlation was observed between the number of new cases of leprosy and the cumulative number of cases of COVID-19 (Spearman's correlation coefficient = -0.840; P less then 0.001) and the number of new monthly cases of COVID-19 (Spearman's correlation coefficient = -0.817; P less then 0.001). The model allows calculating the temperature field, thermal cycles, temperature gradients, and the cooling rate in the wall during the direct deposition process at any time. The temperature field in the deposited wall is determined based on the analytical solution of the non-stationary heat conduction equation for a moving heat source, taking into account heat transfer to the environment. Heat accumulation and temperature change are calculated based on the superposition principle of transient temperature fields resulting from the heat source action at each pass. The proposed method for calculating temperature fields describes the heat-transfer process and heat accumulation in the wall with satisfactory accuracy. This was confirmed by comparisons with experimental thermocouple data. It takes into account the size of the wall and the substrate, the change in power from layer to layer, the pause time between passes, and the heat-source trajectory. In addition, this calculation method is easy to adapt to various additive manufacturing processes that use both laser and arc heat sources.The structural, optical, and electrical properties of ZnO are intimately intertwined. In the present work, the structural and transport properties of 100 nm thick polycrystalline ZnO films obtained by atomic layer deposition (ALD) at a growth temperature (Tg) of 100-300 °C were investigated. The electrical properties of the films showed a dependence on the substrate (a-Al2O3 or Si (100)) and a high sensitivity to Tg, related to the deviation of the film stoichiometry as demonstrated by the RT-Hall effect. The average crystallite size increased from 20-30 nm for as grown samples to 80-100 nm after rapid thermal annealing, which affects carrier scattering. The ZnO layers deposited on silicon showed lower strain and dislocation density than on sapphire at the same Tg. The calculated half crystallite size (D/2) was higher than the Debye length (LD) for all as grown and annealed ZnO films, except for annealed ZnO/Si films grown within the ALD window (100-200 °C), indicating different homogeneity of charge carrier distribution for annealed ZnO/Si and ZnO/a-Al2O3 layers. For as grown films the hydrogen impurity concentration detected via secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) was 1021 cm-3 and was decreased by two orders of magnitude after annealing, accompanied by a decrease in Urbach energy in the ZnO/a-Al2O3 layers.Thermodynamic data on the properties of the water-based electrolyte systems are very valuable for fundamental physical chemistry and for industrial applications. The missing data both on the dilution and dissolution enthalpies for the ternary CsCl-MgCl2-H2O mixed electrolyte system were investigated by means of the calorimetry method. The dilution calorimetry was performed at 298 K for the set of solutions from diluted to concentrated at constant ratio Cs+/Mg2+=1.8. The relative partial molar enthalpies, ideal, total, and excess ones were calculated. By means of the dissolution calorimetry, the standard enthalpies of formation, the enthalpies, and entropies for the double salt formation from simple salts were evaluated. The results obtained indicate that entropy as the major factor affecting the formation of the joint compound, both in the liquid and solid phases. These data can be implemented in thermodynamic databases and allow for accurate thermodynamic calculations for the salts extraction from natural water sources and for its possible application as thermochemical energy storage.This article discusses the relationship between the kinematic system used in drilling and the quality of through-holes. The drilling was done on a CTX Alpha 500 universal turning center using a TiAlN-coated 6.0 mm drill bit with internal cooling, mounted in a driven tool holder. The holes were cut in cylindrical 42CrMo4 + QT steel samples measuring 30 mm in diameter and 30 mm in length. Three types of hole-drilling kinematic systems were considered. The first consisted of a fixed workpiece and a tool performing rotary (primary) and linear motions. In the second system, the workpiece rotated (primary motion) while the tool moved linearly. In the third system, the workpiece and the tool rotated in opposite directions; the tool also moved linearly. The analysis was carried out for four output parameters characterizing the hole quality (i.e., cylindricity, straightness, roundness, and diameter errors). The experiment was designed using the Taguchi approach (orthogonal array). ANOVA multi-factor statistical analysis was used to determine the influence of the input parameters (cutting speed, feed per revolution and type of kinematic system) on the geometrical and dimensional errors of the hole. The corrosion performance differences and microstructure variations were systematically studied using scanning electron microscope, electric corrosion equipment, X-ray diffractometer, and differential calorimeter. It has been shown that each alloying addition increased the corrosion resistance. The highest corrosion resistance obtained by potentiodynamic polarization was found for the alloy with both Nb and V addons (Fe57Co10B20Si5Nb4V4) and lowest in the case of the basic four-element Fe62Co15B14Si9 material. This shows that the proper choice of additions is of significant influence on the final performance of the alloy and allows tailoring of the material for specific applications.Phenomenological plasticity models that relate relative density to plastic strain are frequently used to simulate ceramic powder compaction. With respect to the form implemented in finite element codes, they need to be modified in order to define governing parameters as functions of relative densities. Such a modification increases the number of constitutive parameters and makes their calibration a demanding task that involves a large number of experiments. The novel calibration procedure investigated in this paper is based on inverse analysis methodology, centered on the minimization of a discrepancy function that quantifies the difference between experimentally measured and numerically computed quantities. In order to capture the influence of sought parameters on measured quantities, three different geometries of die and punches are proposed, resulting from a sensitivity analysis performed using numerical simulations of the test. These variables are easy to collect, have a straightforward interpretation, and are widely associated with reduced risk of dementia and cognitive decline in epidemiological studies. However, the specific proxies vary across studies and have rarely been assessed in complete models of cognitive reserve (i.e. alongside both a measure of cognitive outcome and a measure of brain structure). Complete models can test independent associations between proxies and cognitive function in addition to the moderation effect of proxies on the brain-cognition relationship. Consequently, there is insufficient empirical evidence guiding the choice of proxy measures of cognitive reserve and poor comparability across studies. &lt;/p&gt;

Clinical and laboratory variables were collected on days 0, 1, 2, 3 and 7 after ICU admission. Subclasses of septic shock were identified by both finite mixture modeling and K-means clustering. Individualized fluid volume and norepinephrine dose were estimated using dynamic treatment regime (DTR) model to optimize the final mortality outcome. &lt;p&gt;We used the Revised Self-Monitoring Scale (RSMS) as a measure of socioemotional sensitivity in 730 participants from the genetic FTD initiative (GENFI) observational study 269 mutation-negative healthy controls, 193 C9orf72 expansion carriers, 193 GRN mutation carriers and 75 MAPT mutation carriers. All participants underwent the standardised GENFI clinical assessment including the 'CDR® plus NACC FTLD' scale and RSMS. The RSMS total score and its two subscores, socioemotional expressiveness (EX score) and modification of self-presentation (SP score) were measured. Volumetric T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging was available from 377 mutation carriers for voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis. &lt;/p&gt;

The surgical team decided to assign external genitalia to correspond with the already intact internal organs, thus constructing the vulva. Consent was given by the client and her family members for management and surgical intervention. The surgery was scheduled and duly performed with a successful outcome. Understanding and consent was sought from the patient for the purpose of using her images for teaching, scientific publication, and demonstrations. &lt;/p&gt;

      <description>&lt;p&gt;Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) can cause chronic and acute disease. Postacute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) include injury to the lungs, heart, kidneys, and brain that may produce a variety of symptoms. PASC also includes a post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) syndrome ('long COVID') with features that can follow other acute infectious diseases and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). Here we summarize what is known about the pathogenesis of ME/CFS and of 'acute' COVID-19, and we speculate that the pathogenesis of post-COVID-19 syndrome in some people may be similar to that of ME/CFS. We propose molecular mechanisms that might explain the fatigue and related symptoms in both illnesses, and we suggest a research agenda for both ME/CFS and post-COVID-19 syndrome.To date, prenatal testing has relied on imaging to determine fetal 'form' (anatomy). Advances in imaging helps to better define the actual aggressiveness of the disease, to plan the surgical procedure, and to improve the prognostic evaluation of this high-risk of recurrence disease. The information obtained by MRI and by targeted biopsies improves management before surgery. Advances in nuclear medicine and generalization of PSMA-PET scans are beginning to improve the initial stage of diagnosis, thanks to a better detection of lymph node and distant metastases. The oncological interest of these new imaging techniques, which then influence the therapeutic plan, remains to be defined. The curative impact of an extensive lymph node dissection, as currently recommended, remains to be proved, and recently published randomized trials do not provide firm conclusions. The new hormone therapies pave the way for an intensification of perioperative systemic treatment, with a significant action on the tumor tissue, but an impact on survival, which remains to be defined in the context of ongoing randomized trials. &lt;br&gt;
 The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy in terms of neck failure of an initial neck dissection before definitive chemoradiotherapy in N2-3 oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas, as well as the dosimetric impact and the acute and delayed morbidity of this approach. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;All patients consecutively treated between 2009 and 2018 with definitive chemoradiotherapy using intensity-modulated conformal radiotherapy (IMRT) for a histologically proven N2-3 oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas were retrospectively included. The therapeutic approach consisted of induction chemotherapy, followed by cisplatine-based chemoradiotherapy preceded or not by neck dissection. Neck dissection was discussed on a case-by-case basis in a dedicated multidisciplinary tumour board for patients with a dissociated response to induction chemotherapy, defined as a better response on the primary than on the node. Chemoradiotherapy without neck dissection was systematically performed in case of a major lymph node response to ind, mandible (P=0.02), and thyroid gland (P=0.02). Acute toxicity of chemoradiotherapy after neck dissection suggested a reduction in grade≥3 adverse events (P=0.04), early discontinuation of concomitant chemotherapy (P=0.009) and feeding tube-dependence (P=0.008) in univariate analysis. During follow-up, there was no difference between the two groups in terms of xerostomia, dysgeusia, dysphagia or gastrostomy dependence in univariate analysis. &lt;/p&gt;

 Clinical staff highly proficient in neonatal resuscitation are essential to ensure prompt, effective positive pressure ventilation (PPV) for infants that do not breathe spontaneously after birth. However, it is well-documented that resuscitation competency is transient after standard training. We hypothesized that brief, repeated PPV psychomotor skill refresher training would improve PPV performance for newborn care nurses. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Subjects completed a blinded baseline and post PPV-skills assessment. Data on volume and rate for each ventilation was recorded. After baseline assessment, subjects completed PPV-Refreshers over 3 months consisting of psychomotor skill training using a newborn manikin with visual feedback. &lt;p&gt;To describe (1) the characteristics and 30-day survival of OHCAs occurring at workplaces in comparison to OHCAs at other places and (2) factors associated with survival after OHCAs at workplaces. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Data on OHCAs were obtained from the Swedish Registry of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2018. Characteristics and factors associated with survival were analysed with emphasis on the location of OHCAs. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Among 47,685 OHCAs, 529 cases (1%) occurred at workplaces. Overall, in the fully adjusted model, all locations of OHCA, with the exception of crowded public places, displayed significantly lower probability of survival than workplaces. Exhibiting a shockable rhythm was the strongest predictor of survival among patients with OHCAs at workplaces; odds ratio (95% CI) 5.80 (2.92-12.31). Odds ratio for survival for women was 2.08 (95% CI 1.07-4.03), compared with men. At workplaces other than private offices, odds ratio for survival was 0.41 (95% CI 0.16-0.95) for cases who did not receive bystander CPR, as compared to those who did receive CPR. Among patients who were found in a shockable rhythm were 23% defibrillated before arrival of ambulance, which was more frequent than in any other location. &lt;/p&gt;

 To show whether adding blood glucose to the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) parameters in a machine learning model predicts 30-day mortality more precisely than the standard NEWS in a prehospital setting. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In this study, vital sign data prospectively collected from 3632 unselected prehospital patients in June 2015 were used to compare the standard NEWS to random forest models for predicting 30-day mortality. The NEWS parameters and blood glucose levels were used to develop the random forest models. Predictive performance on an unknown patient population was estimated with a ten-fold stratified cross-validation method. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;All NEWS parameters and blood glucose levels were reported in 2853 (79%) eligible patients. Within 30 days after contact with ambulance staff, 97 (3.4%) of the analysed patients had died. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the 30-day mortality of the evaluated models was 0.682 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.619-0.744) for the standard NEWS, 0.735 (95% CI, 0.679-0.787) for the random forest-trained NEWS parameters only and 0.758 (95% CI, 0.705-0.807) for the random forest-trained NEWS parameters and blood glucose. The models predicted secondary outcomes similarly, but adding blood glucose into the random forest model slightly improved its performance in predicting short-term mortality. &lt;/p&gt;

 Fast arrival of the cardiac arrest team (CAT) is associated with improved survival after in-hospital cardiac arrest however little is known about how we can minimize delays in CAT arrival. This study aimed to investigate differences in the cardiac arrest call procedures in Danish hospitals and identify causes for adverse events delaying the CAT arrival. &lt;/p&gt;
