Dual Wield Combat Lightsabers — the words alone made me feel like a Jedi Master. I'd always admired the fighters who used two blades. The way they moved, the way they seemed to be everywhere at once. It looked impossible. It looked incredible.

I'd been duelling with a single saber for years. I was good. I was fast. I could hold my own against most opponents. But I'd always wanted to try dual-wielding. I'd always wanted to learn the style that Ahsoka Tano made famous.

In the Star Wars universe, dual-wielding is known as Jar'Kai. It's a specialist combat technique used by numerous Force traditions across the spectrum of light, dark, and gray. It's considered one of the most difficult skills to learn, and very few Force-users adopt it as their primary combat style.

But I was determined. When I found a set of Dual Wield Combat Lightsabers that was affordable and durable, I jumped at the chance.

The First Attempt
Holding two sabers felt natural. Making them work together? That was another story.

I'd read about the challenges of dual-wielding. Coordinating two hands, two weapons, and two independent movements takes extensive training. I'd read advice from experienced duelists who said that mastering a single weapon is a prerequisite to effectively using two.

The Dual Wield Combat Lightsabers I'd bought were designed for this exact purpose. Each had a 32-inch combat-grade polycarbonate blade, a frosted aluminum alloy hilt, and a responsive core. They were light enough to use one-handed, with a blade length that suited my height.

I started with a few basic drills: a slash with the right, a block with the left, a spinning attack with both. The sabers moved naturally, responding to my every motion.

But I was clumsy. I'd try to block with one and attack with the other, and my movements would get tangled. I'd try to spin both sabers, and I'd almost hit myself. I'd try to coordinate a complex attack, and I'd end up doing nothing at all.

The Week It Clicked
I didn't give up. I practiced every day. I watched videos of Ahsoka Tano's duels, studying her form. I read about the Jar'Kai style and learned that it allowed fighters to implement Form V combat techniques, like Shien and Djem So, simultaneously.

I'd learned that Ahsoka, one of the most famous dual-wielders in the Star Wars saga, had initially struggled with incorporating a second blade. It wasn't until Yoda trained her personally that she was able to master the style. If Ahsoka could learn, so could I.

I also learned that the key to dual-wielding is to keep your opponent under constant pressure. As one Saber Forum user put it, "Two weapons require the brain to work at top speed — push them by constant motion, attacking and retreating, playing with distance and feinting".

I practised the footwork. I practised keeping my opponent on the back foot. I practised moving in ways that were unpredictable. And eventually, it started to work. I was no Ahsoka Tano, but I was learning.

What I Wish I'd Known
I wish I'd known that the Dual Wield Combat Lightsabers set came with a free hilt connector. When I discovered I could join the two sabers into a double-bladed staff, it changed the way I trained. I could switch between dual-wielding and staff combat, giving me even more versatility.

I also wish I'd known that some sabers are better suited for dual-wielding than others. The Dual Wield Combat Lightsabers I'd bought were lighter and better balanced than my single saber, making them easier to use one-handed.

The 32-inch blade length was perfect for my size, but I'd learned that some duelists prefer shorter blades for dual-wielding, especially when learning the style.
