Building software for the hosting industry is an interesting challenge because hosting businesses have many interconnected operations to manage.

Customer accounts, domain registrations, hosting services, billing, invoicing, provisioning and DNS management are all important parts of running a hosting company.

I have been working on a project called HM360, a self-hosted hosting management and automation platform developed by the WingsHoster team.

I want to share what we are building and some of the challenges involved in creating a platform for hosting businesses.

 Why I Started Building HM360

Running a hosting business requires more than server infrastructure.

As a hosting provider grows, managing customers, products, orders, domains and billing becomes increasingly complex.

I wanted to build a platform that brings these operational components together while allowing hosting providers to deploy and manage the software within their own infrastructure.

That became the motivation behind HM360.

 What Is HM360?

HM360 is a self-hosted hosting management platform designed for:

Web hosting providers.

VPS and dedicated server providers.

Domain resellers.

Hosting startups.

Web development agencies.

The objective is to provide a centralized environment for managing hosting business operations.

 Technology Behind the Project

The HM360 backend uses a JavaScript-based technology stack, including:

Node.js for server-side application development.

Express.js for backend application services.

MySQL for relational data management.

Modern JavaScript frontend technologies.

One of the important considerations when developing a platform like this is designing independent modules that can work together without creating unnecessary dependencies.

 Key Areas We Are Developing

 1. Customer Management

Managing customer accounts and maintaining relationships between customers, products and services.

 2. Hosting Service Management

Managing hosting products, customer orders and service provisioning workflows.

 3. Domain Management

Supporting domain registration, renewal, transfer and DNS management workflows through registrar integrations.

 4. Billing and Invoicing

Managing invoices, payments and financial workflows associated with hosting services.

 5. Marketplace

Supporting vendor marketplace functionality and associated business workflows.

 6. Built-in CMS

Providing content management capabilities within the platform.

One Interesting Challenge: Domain Registration Workflows

Domain registration is more complicated than simply checking whether a domain is available.

A proper domain workflow needs to consider:

Registrar availability validation.

Registration terms.

Domain pricing.

Promotional pricing.

Registration and renewal differences.

Transfers.

Payment validation.

Order consistency.

The challenge is ensuring that the customer sees the correct price and that the final order reflects the actual registration term and registrar operation.

These are the types of real-world details that make building hosting management software interesting.

 Why Self-Hosted?

We believe hosting providers should have greater control over their business management environment.

A self-hosted deployment allows businesses to operate the application within their own hosting infrastructure and manage their deployment according to their requirements.

 What's Next?

We are continuing to improve HM360, expand its capabilities and make it useful for both new hosting businesses and established providers.

You can explore the project here:

🌐 Website: https://www.hm360.net

The project is developed and maintained by WingsHoster.

I'd Like to Hear From Other Developers

For developers and founders working on business management platforms:

What is the biggest architectural challenge when building a modular business management application?

How do you approach integrations with external service providers?

What is your preferred approach for maintaining compatibility across self-hosted deployments?

I'd love to hear your experiences and suggestions.

Thanks for reading!
