How you can be like JavaScript

JavaScript is a programming language that is in wide usage today. Virtually all websites and web applications implements one form of JavaScript code or the other, in fact, any website or web application that makes use of HTML 5 API's is made up of some form of JavaScript code because most of the HTML 5 API's were written in JavaScript.

Frameworks are now dominating the web space, almost all enterprise level applications are built using frameworks, however, the most popular and most used frameworks are mostly JavaScript frameworks.

However, the question that buggles my mind is how did this small programming language written by one man become one of the most widely adopted programming language.

JavaScript was written by a man known as Brendan Eich in the year 1995, surprisingly, it took Brendan Eich only 10 days to write this very popular programming language called JavaScript.

Due to the short period of time used to write the language, JavaScript as a language had lots of errors embedded in it but despite those errors, it was still implemented in major browsers and virtually all browsers.

In order to correct those errors, different modifications were carried out on the language and the most popular been the ECMA Script 6 or ECMA 2015.

JavaScript is a language based on ECMA script which is a standard for scripting languages and is been governed by the European Computer Manufacturers Association (ECMA).

You too can become like JavaScript, a language full of errors that rose to become one of the most popular programming languages.

I don't know the stage of your professional career that you are currently on, you might be at the stage where your potentials are yet to fully manifest, probably, you are full of errors like JavaScript, you don't have good communication skills, don't have what it takes to get things done, cannot meet set targets in the workplace and generally seen as an under achiever and under performer.

Don't beat yourself down, you too can ride from a nobody to a somebody, from an under achiever to an over achiever, you too can become the new biggest and most sought after individual in your industry, you just have to consistently work on yourself.

💥 Invest your time, energy and money in your growth and development,

💥 Show up but don't show off,

💥 Trust your process,

💥 Look up the Giants in your industry and follow their foot steps and in no time, you will become one of the the most valuable persons (MVP) in your industry.

If JavaScript can, You will.

HOW TO AVOID BURNOUTS AS A DEVELOPER

Burnout can be defined as the loss of energy, enthusiasm and motivation to carry out a particular task.

Developers are always busy people, they are busy coding, building projects, preparing power point slides for technical talks/seminars, writing technical reports and articles, creating tutorials on YouTube, mentoring other developers, creating blog posts, organizing events and seminars e.t.c. The work of developers is a never ending one's, there's always something to be done once you are a developer.

Funny enough, most of the enormous work to be done by developers comes with a deadline that has to be met. That's one of the reasons why you see many developers always busy working, trying to meet deadlines and as such they put many resources into use just to meet deadlines.
Some of the many resources they use up includes time, emotions, psychology, money and most times they work round the clock just to make sure that they deliver the best work within the stipulated time frame which puts their health at risk as this can lead to burnout.

Tips on how to avoid burn out as a developer are highlighted in subsequent paragraphs.

Begin with the end goal in mind:

It is always a good practice to begin with the end goal in mind when embarking on a project(s) or carrying out a day's work. The end goal simply involves what you want to achieve in a project after it has been completed. Beginning with the end goal in mind helps to set your mind in the right direction that will in turn help to achieve your goal. It also helps you stay focused on what is important in carrying out the project.

Set a target for each day's work before you begin a day's work:

It is vital that you set a target for that day's work. Clearly define what you want to achieve for that day, the duration of time that you need to work in other to achieve your target for that day and strictly abide by the target that you have set out. Setting up a target for each day helps you to track your progress on a project, it helps you to know the amount of work needed to be done to carry a project and the duration it will take for the project to be completed.

Take breaks, do not work for long hours at a go:

Due to the quest to effectively carry out projects within the specified time frame, developers tend to overwork themselves by working for long hours. working for long hours overwhelms and make one to lose the motivation to work over a period of time. Taking breaks refreshes and allows the mind to be settled and be at peace, taking breaks revitalizes and renews energy to forge ahead. Always take breaks between specific time intervals in other to stay motivated and energized.

Only embark on few projects that you can effectively handle:

Developers are fond with the habit of embarking on a handful of projects. A lot of developers embark on many projects that end up affecting their productivity. When you have too many projects to work, your psychological and mental health is at risk, you end up over using these resources that makes fatigue inevitable. Make a list of most important projects, work on them gradually and only jump on the next project when you are done working on the previous one, remember a completed project is greater than many uncompleted projects.

Exercise regularly:

Physical exercise is of great value to the body, it can help to improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. According to the better health Channel, below are some of the benefits of regular physical exercise.
🔵 It help to reduce the risk of heart failure
🔵 Physical exercise helps you to feel better with more energy and also improve your sleep pattern.
🔵 It helps to lower blood cholesterol levels and manage your weight better.

Sleep at least 7-8 hours everyday:

The importance of sleep has been down played by many professionals. A lot of developers work round the clock because they want to complete a project, watch a tutorial or prepare for a conference talk that they give little importance to sleep. Here are few importance of sleep.
🔵 Sleep helps to keep your heart healthy.
🔵 It may help prevent cancer
🔵 It reduces stress
🔵 Good sleep makes you more alert and energized
🔵 It also helps to improve your memory. Irrespective of what you do, always do your best to achieve 7-8 hours of sleep for enhanced productivity.

Burnout is real and it has affected the productivity of many developers. Don't allow it to get to you by applying the aforementioned tips in your day-to-day lives.

Thanks for reading.

HOW TO STAY/REMAIN MOTIVATED AS A DEVELOPER

Been a developer is quite hard in this our contemporary world, there are lots of distractions and events that can cause one to loose motivation and the will power to continue in the journey of software development. I have read about many developers who lost motivation and gave up on their coding journey.

Motivation is one key factor that every developer needs to continue their coding journey amidst myriads of challenges. Below are some key points that can help a developer to remain motivated.

☀️ ALWAYS SEEK TO PROVIDE SOLUTIONS TO PEOPLE'S CHALLENGES:

Many developers joined the world of software development because of diverse reasons, some joined because of the financial gains while some others joined because it's what's trending.

The reason why you start a thing will surely determine how far you are willing to go to continue with that thing. There is a kind of inexplicable joy that resonates within a person when that person provide solutions to other people's problem.

That kind of joy can keep the fire of motivation burning for a long time.

Always seek to provide solutions and watch as the solution that you provide helps to better the life of others.

☀️ SPEND TIME ON MEDITATION:

A lot of developers are so busy developing software, writing codes, technical articles, attending and speaking in conferences that they fail to spend quality time on meditation.

Meditation involves reflection.

Meditation refreshes the mind and helps to birth new ideas.
It helps to unleash peace within a person.

It also helps to relieve one of some unnecessary burden. As a developer, always create time to meditate, take some minutes off this noisy and busy world and unleash peace within you through meditation, you need that peace to continue in your journey as a developer.

☀️ CREATE TIME TO REST:

The workload of a developer is quite very intense. Developers are among the most busy set of individuals, they're always busy coding, attending conferences, writing technical articles, documentations, books, blog posts, creating YouTube videos and much more that they hardly spend quality time to rest(sleep).

According to medical research, the body needs at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep to perform optimally.

When you don't create time to rest, your body begins to Lag, your brain power reduces and your motivation diminishes drastically.

Having good rest every day helps to boost your energy flow and motivation.

☀️ CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS:

A lot of developers put so much pressure on themselves because of the things that they want to achieve and they fail to celebrate the things that they have achieved.

Always learn to celebrate your success no matter how small it might appear to be. Success in any area can really spur you on into achieving even more.

In the midst of challenges, look back at your success and say to yourself "if I could achieve this level of success, I can achieve even more".

☀️ PEN DOWN YOUR GOALS AND ALWAYS READ THEM ALOUD EVERY MORNING:

There are many important things that you want to achieve as a developer, it's always wise to write down those goals and read them aloud every day.

Review the goals, identify the ones that you have achieved and consider the consequences of your not been able to achieve them, this helps you to stay motivated.

☀️ JOIN A CODING COMMUNITY:

Joining an encouraging coding community can boost your motivation by 10X. The power of a positive coding community cannot be overemphasized.

Since I joined a coding community like https://dev.to and read tweets from other developers on Twitter, my motivation to continue on this path has greatly increased.

In a community, you will find different categories of developers ranging from beginners, experts, those experiencing the same challenges as you are and also those who have surmounted those challenges, all come together to encourage and assist one another, this keeps your motivation intact.

Leverage on the power of a good coding community and accelerate your career.

At every point of your coding journey, always remain motivated, don't allow those bugs, errors and other challenges to put you down. Learn to always reach out for help.

KEEP ON CODING, KEEP ON BUILDING SOFTWARE, KEEP ON MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.

REMAIN EVER MOTIVATED!

THANKS FOR READING.
