Hey I'm Andrew.

I'm buying small SaaS companies at xo.capital. We've bought two developer tools and our growth is mostly driven by developers writing cool tutorials about our products.

I'd love to see if anyone here wants to write for us.

We'll pay $150 per post (+$50 extra for a short video) if it is approved.

https://airtable.com/shrN6S3NMZ7oxRXTt

Here's an example of the type of content we're looking for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM6S27tCvio. The tutorial itself is very simple but practical.

Thanks!

First 5 star review + chapter 0.1.8 released

This morning I woke up to my first review and it was 5 stars! By a random, anonymous internet person! That's insane!

I'm sure you've all had a similar but opposite experience. I certainly have.

So far, the two best channels are:

Github. I think the repo got shared somewhere, but I can't find where

Royal Road. Dozens of readers for each new chapter so far.

Stats for yesterday:

fb spend - $ 4.55
fb clicks - 7
reddit spend - $4.72
reddit clicks - 18
website views - 20
Github Views - 150
email signups - 1
sales - 1

Follow along on Github

First Sale!! 🙌🤗🕺🏻 + Chapter 0.1.7 Released (Day 8)

Thanks mostly to you peeps on dev.to, I got my first sale!

I got some really great feedback and updated the landing page and started posting on royal road.

I also think the repo got shared somewhere because the traffic spiked yesterday and I got 10 more stars. Now the repo is sitting at 20 stars. Not great, but it's only day 8!

Follow along on GitHub or the website!

you can see the full stats here

Day 7 - launching a sci-fi book

Day 7 Stats:

fb spend - $ 11.56

fb clicks - 9

reddit spend - $5.31

reddit clicks - 21

website views - 30

email signups - 0

sales - 0

Lessons:

I originally wanted to target devs for the scifi book, but I'm not sure that's the right audience. I'm expanding it beyond devs.

I moved the landing page to the website instead of to Github. The book is on github but I think that it was confusing for most people to land on a github repo from an ad.

Feel free to follow along and read it for free!

Changed the landing page from the ads to point towards https://wrannaman.com, I'll leave it there for 7 days and see if that works better.

Day 4 Marketing A Sci Fi Book

Day 4.

Most importantly, there are still 0 pre-sales, which is fine. It's new and things are just starting to ramp up.

One problem (or assumption I had) is that people are not starring the github repo.

I have the book on github. I thought that would be a cool hook to get people interested but I might be wrong.

I'll let it run for at least a week and then just try linking to the landing page (website) and see if conversions are better.

Stats so far

I'm writing an open source sci-fi book

I'm releasing an open source sci fi novel. You can read it for free on github.

It's my second book, but my last one was ~8 years ago. Things have changed!

Marketing a book is weird. It feels qualitatively different than launching a new saas project. But I'm trying a similar approach. This would be the 'open-core' approach. The book itself is (perhaps) worthless on its own without an audience. And I don't have an audience yet. So the book is "open source" as a way to get attention, and perhaps after several books it will turn into an audience.

I'm only on day 3. Nothing has blown up on reddit or hacker news, etc.

Current stats on day 3:

252 views on github

8 stars on github

3 reads on medium

5 reads on wattpad

0 email signups

0 presales on gumroad

0 presales on amazon

Running ads on fb + reddit to github
