Fossprite: a pixel-art editor in a single HTML file that works offline

I'm developing Fossprite, a pixel-art editor that runs in the browser and is meant to be used offline.

It's a single HTML file, so there's no server, account, CDN, or npm runtime involved. Download it, open it locally, and your artwork stays on your own machine.

 What it does so far

Drawing and painting tools

Color palettes and layers

Animation

Project saving and loading

Image-to-pixel-art conversion

Keyboard shortcuts

Import/export for several pixel-art and image formats

It's still in beta. Some parts are unfinished, some image formats aren't supported yet, and bugs are possible. Please back up anything important while you test it.

Why a browser app if it's meant to be offline?

Because "browser-based" and "online" aren't the same thing. The browser is just where Fossprite runs, and it doesn't need an internet connection. I went with it because pretty much everyone already has one, on any operating system, so there's nothing extra to install. The trade-off is that some browser limitations still apply.

 Code and licensing

I used AI-assisted coding during development, and the single-file structure has left the code harder to read than I'd like. Splitting it into clearer modules is on my list.

The repo contains original Fossprite code, adapted code, and embedded third-party libraries. Some of the drawing, palette, and other tools are documented as adaptations of DogSprite and Simple Pixel Art. The embedded libraries keep their original licenses, including MIT, Apache-2.0, Ms-PL, Zlib, and BSD-3-Clause.

I'm not distributing the whole HTML file under the MIT License. The root
LICENSE
covers only original Fossprite code, and its copyright-holder field is currently marked UNVERIFIED because my provenance audit isn't finished. The known third-party components and remaining uncertainties are documented in
THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md
.

 Feedback

I'd like to hear what you think of the editor, the documentation, the licensing notes, and the contributor experience. Is the scope of the licenses easy to understand? Did I miss any notable third-party components? And if you try it, what's the first thing you'd change?
