How I solved my bookmarks problem

So, my personal problem was the following: As much as I wanted to, I didn't manage to keep my bookmarks in an acceptable shape. They all end up in a big graveyard. Even at work, you start by making a bunch of folders, one for each client/project and at the end, one of the lists just starts containing most of them. It's not an easy thing to handle, we always start with good intentions on a clean board, and then, someday and without reason, stop doing it rigorously.

 A first solution

So I then started using the feature of having a custom start page, plain html and css in a very ugly html file. I don't really care about the beauty here, just the list and the fast links have been good enough. I think this worked for about 3 months, where I have been continuously adding links and rearrange the layout etc..

 Making a real extension

This started then again feeling tedious and well, as I knew I could simply add a little chrome extension without having to compile/registering anything. I choose wxt to do the heavy lifting, as I didn't want to do any heavy lifting. And then I started having some real fun with it. I added some colors, some icons. Copy-Paste links (basically just something that allows you to copy a text into the clipboard on a click). All this kinda stuff.

After having it shared with some collegues at work I also got suggested to make more out of it. Well I wasn't lacking ideas. But I think the main thing is the following: Having a nicely organized tab was the right solution for me. Not telling anybody that it has to be one's rigth solution. I can see it for power-users and something like projects-managers, devs etc...

You can find it here in the chrome store.

Simply put: People that have a lot of links to manage, and would like to have fast access to then and don't want to manage them/search them all the time. Some gimmicks as copy past links, notes and todo's or routines (just a bunch of actions of after another, like open 5 links at once etc..) are more a little enhancement.

 It's the little things

One addition I have indeed been proud of, has been the companion app. The idea came from the "Video download helper" extension (you can find it here), that uses also a separate little app combined with itself to handle the video downloads better. Now I can also open folder/files/scripts/apps on my pc in my new tab. I admittedly only uses it on my work pc, as I like to have my project folders at a mouse click.
So, curious to see what others have found for them to work?

Also, yeah there is paid options of my extensions, but I think it's a generous extension that allows 95% of all users to ignore the paid version and have plenty with the free one. (Paid is only for teams/cloud sync). And no worries, json export/import for non cloud sync is of course free.

Also, here a little look of my current dashboard (home one, I can't share the work one):

Also, any questions, ideas or other feedback is of course welcome.
With that, stay organized, burn or celebrate browser bookmarks and have a good one!
