Temporary Pause to My #100DaysOfCode

It has been a whirlwind 🤢

I didn’t have the time nor energy to code at all because my dev team decided to launch two new projects at once 🤣: ASIC.guide & hashOS

Both of the projects are still in the cryto mining industry.

ASIC.guide will be a comprehensive directory of companies in the full lifecycle of ASIC mining. We are listing companies from manufacturers, distributers, resellers, hosting companies and finally repair centers. So that miners can have a one-stop location to do research.

hashOS is an upcoming mining software suite that will offer mining pools (starting with BTC and LTC). We will be adding more software as we develop. We will focus on pleasant user experience as I feel this is where the market is lacking.

Soooo until I get these two off the ground, I won’t be able to work much on hashing.energy. However, I do have someone adding the articles to the database and you can actually read the summaries of articles there.

So let’s hope I get to come back and code soon!

This is harder than I thought 😂.

Been reading, watching, trying the CMS myself.

I think I have a better understanding of Prismic now. But it will take more time than I thought.

But with that said, if I can make Prismic work, the website would be quite scalable (Not like Notion 😂).

And if the website works, I should be able to call myself a (junior) full stack dev?? 😂

Super brainfried just watching Prismic tutorial.

I guess it’s different when the framework/tool is new and the documentation is confusing and there’s not a lot of tutorial on Youtube. 😂

It’s totally different when it’s NextJS that is popular and so many people are covering it on Youtube.

I guess I need to attack this from a different angle. I do have a much better understanding on how it works but feel like I need to learn more before I can try it with my current project. Wish me luck 😭

I spent an hour or so watching Youtube tutorial on how to Prismic works.

I think I should be able to get a hang of it in a day or two.

It was quite daunting at first but after spending some time with it, it seems manageable. 🫠

I finished the ui for the company section!

Fixed all of the bugs.

Learned how to use svg (a bit).

Now I just need to work on the backend. I think I will have to use Prismic so there will be a lot of learning to do. Wish me luck! 🥳

Redesigned 90% of the company list page.

Need to fix a few CSS issues and then I can move on to data fetching.

The issue with data fetching is that should I continue using Notion as the CMS for now or should I find another CMS to use???

I’m looking at Contentful and Prismic but haven’t really gone into details with neither of them. 🫠

Woo! I’m back! 🥳

At the end of Oct, a lot of traveling, work, and sickness got the best of me.

I had a flu that I couldn’t shake off for two weeks 🤢. And right after my Laos trip, a bunch of work came up (not that it’s bad, we will be launching a few new products and services all in the crypto mining space)

But finally I got the chance to come back to code for Hashing.energy!

I finished the ui for the company details page (watched a few videos about flexbox for Tailwind too ao going forward wireframing would be so much faster!!)

I will have to make a few changes to the company list UI because after I came back I’m not satisfied with the current design. Once that’s done, I can start working on the backend 🥳🥳🥳

I’m amazed with myself! I have finished the company section (list-detail pattern) faster than I expected! I’m a lot more familiar with Tailwind so it’s a lot faster now.

I now only have a few bugs left to fix for the frontend to be done. I believe I should be able to fix it by tomorrow.

I will then move on to the data fetching part. My only concern is that if I continue to use Notion as the CMS, I will exceed the API call limit of the platform. So I will have to decide what headless CMS I’m gonna use if I am to scale this website.

But first let me wrap up the frontend first and then we can worry about that later! Looking forward to see the company section live in production! 😍

I finished the frontend for the company section.

Just need to fix some minor CSS issues.

Should be able to finish it in 1-2 days

Today I finished the main structure of the Company Detail page. I have now finished the main structures for the list-detail pattern for the companies section.

The next step is to prettify the design with CSS.

I think this time it will go much faster since I now have some experience doing it for the article list-detail section. Plus, I’m a lot more familiar with tailwindCSS now.

Hopefully I can get it done fast so I can move on to the backend part. 🥳

Day32 of #100DaysOfCode

I’m back! I’ve been missing a few days because I got sick during my trip to Laos. So I came back and rested for a few days.

Now that I’m feeling better (still need to take it easy), I jumped right back in!

Since I have finished fixing most of the bugs and the website is working, I’m now working on the frontend for the company section.

I’m now a lot more proficient with Tailwind but I do feel I can get better. I guess I need more practice to be able to quickly whip out the frontend.

I think it will take me a week to finish the frontend since I need to design and code it from the wireframe. I got 80% of the design done for the Company List page and only 10% done on the Company Detail page.

I will try to draft it out and refine it in the coming days.

Wish me luck! 🥳

I finally found a way to fix the hamburger menu issue.

So the issue (I think) is that the documentation of Flowbite is incomplete and I have to do some trial and errors before I finally got it how I want it.

Before you learning coding, you thought all libraries and frameworks are well-documented. Nothing can be further from the truth 😂.

I now understand (and internalized) the notion that the ability to read and understand documentations is key for any software engineer. And I think I kinda earn a small well-done badge for encountering and fixing the issue on my own 😂.

With that said, now that the bugs are all fixed, I can now focus on developing new pages for Hashing.energy.

Today I finished the wireframes for the company section of the website. I will probably spend next week working on the frontend (exciting). However, regarding the backend, I’m still not sure if I should continue using Notion as a CMS 😂. It’s a makeshift solution at best. So I will have to figure out what I’m going to use for CMS. Currently I’m considering Contentful and Strapi. In my business group, we are using Strapi for one of our websites. And we are adding a blog feature for Cryptodrilling. So I’m thinking if I should wait to see how these two work out and can decide later. I just hope that Notion (and its API) can handle my current website now 😂.

Well, something to think about 💭
