Building My First Developer Portfolio (And Why I Kept It Simple)

I recently built and published my first personal portfolio website under the name Brumous.
This wasn’t about showing off flashy animations or using the latest frameworks. The goal was much simpler:
to create a clean, fast, and honest place that represents who I am as a developer and what I’m learning.
I’m Zishan Akhtar, a web developer and game development learner, and this portfolio is my starting point.
Why I built it
I wanted:
One place that clearly says what I do
Something lightweight and easy to maintain
A site that focuses on structure, readability, and performance
No noise. No unnecessary complexity.
Tech choices
The portfolio is built using:
HTML
CSS
JavaScript
Tailwind CSS
I intentionally avoided heavy frameworks so I could focus on fundamentals and understand every part of the codebase.
Beyond web development
Alongside web development, I’m currently learning game development using Godot.
Exploring game logic, physics, and interaction has helped me think differently about problem-solving and systems design.
What’s next
This portfolio will evolve as I build more projects, learn new tools, and improve my skills.
Right now, it’s not perfect, but it’s real, and it’s mine.
If you’re early in your journey too, my advice is simple:
build something small, publish it, and improve it over time.
You don’t need permission to start.
